By the time he let her hand go, she was confident enough to skate on her own. Of course, having his hand suddenly pulled from hers was a little disappointing - she had been enjoying the lazy, romantic couple's skate.
She watched as he sped up ahead of her and, for a moment, assumed that he was about to challenge her to a race. She should have known that his romantic roots would never do such a thing because just as soon as the thought occurred to her, he had turned around and held his hands out for her again. She laughed in surprise, a soft little bubbling chime, and took a few short, graceful dashes across the ice so she could place her hands in his.
"You're a show off," she chided, playfully. Still, as she glanced around them at his comment and realized that they were the only two people gliding around the romantic little rink, she could feel the atmosphere of the entire date changing around her. Despite the fact that she had just teased him, her cheeks were beginning to shine a rosy pink once again, simply from nerves.
"You sure do know how to woo a girl, don't you?" She was still joking, all smiles, but there was a shyness underneath it all now. This was uncharted territory for her.

He shrugged, cocking his head slightly as if it gave him a better view. "A little," he admitted almost sheepishly, but his confidence overshadowed it. He was a show off, in nearly every aspect of his life but now, here with Kaia, he wasn't even really trying to show off. He supposed that it was simply natural for him.
"I do what I can," he replied softly, his smile softening when his eyes did. "To be honest," he felt he could be honest with her (what was a relationship if he lied?) so he just let the words spill from his mouth, like word vomit but prettier. "This is even, uh, a little new for me," he was stumbling over his words again, and mentally he cursed himself because he was trying to impress. "I've never tried this hard, never gone so far for anyone," he looked away, having stopped skating and sliding to a slow stop.
"I'd really like it if you'd be my girlfriend," he told her looking up shyly. It was the first date but he was pretty much head over heels for the blond before him.

As Chase stopped skating and came to a slow halt, Kaia followed suit and let herself drift forward with her hands still in his. She stopped just short of him, closer where she stood than she had been when she was gliding along. The proximity made her blush but her face was already rosy from the wind against her cheeks - it was hard to tell how much was her nerves and how much was just natural.
"I don't know what to.. say to that," she said softly in response to his confession. If he had never done this before, she most certainly had not and as if he was tripping over his words then she was about falling face first over her own. She'd expected him to be confident through everything and, while she couldn't depend on him quite like she had thought she would, it was still endearing to see that even he wasn't as sure about this as she thought he would be.
Then he asked her that one, innocent question, and time seemed to slow down.
She had no experience with relationships, with dating, with feeling. Had she ever? Given how uncomfortable she was with the situation, she doubted it. In her mind she thought that she must have always been a complete failure where the dating world was concerned. That didn't mean she was just about to let this opportunity slip through her fingers, though.
Chase was sweet, kind, and he went out of his way to do things for her that no one ever had. Besides, dating was normal wasn't it? Even if you were a mind wiped crusader for Earth's honor? She was pretty sure that someone her age, under the normal circumstances, should have had plenty of relationships already. Maybe she should have even been in a serious one at nineteen.
That all in mind, she forced herself to look up into his bright eyes, to really see him. She just had to trust him and that was easy. He wouldn't just throw her away, not after all of this effort.
"I.. can try," she said finally, smiling despite the fact that the words were quiet and almost stuttered. Butterflies had erupted into her stomach in a way that wasn't entirely unpleasant and the blush on her cheeks was burning bright and red, which embarrassed her and only made it all worse. Still, she wasn't scared or hesitant. She wanted to do this, she wanted to belong to someone.
Normal was a hard leap for her, but she could try. She had to be Kaia sometimes, not just Alkaid.

Chase felt anxious as he awaited his date's answer. Had her hands not been in his, then they would have been curled into tight fists at his sides. Nerves were not something that he dealt with often, only in the company of his father really, but now he was nearly a mess of nerves. He disliked the feeling, he disliked having to wait for an answer but he knew that it would not, could not be easy for Kaia.
Her life was complicated as is and having a boyfriend, after having only been out on one date with him, could only complicate things further yet he hoped, prayed even, that she would accept. His expression softened as struggled to figure out how she wanted to respond, how she wished to answer him.
His lips had pressed together anxiously by the time she hand answered him. The smile he gave her wasn't his wide cocky grin but a soft, sweet smile as he leaned forward. "That's all I ask," he whispered placing a kiss on her forehead before resting his against hers. "If you trying means that you'll be mine, that's all I want."
Kaia, that was who he wanted at that moment. The beautiful blonde girl with the dreads that he met that night in the park was the girl he did all of this for and she had said yes. It was more than he could have hoped for.
