what i love most about italian culture is that everything is an art form- food, love, soccer, painting, the evening stroll. there's a great love of life.

as for the food, i'm italian-american and we have pasta all the time. <3
AGAIN............ YUMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM

Same as in the German thread... I shall post the same question, 'cuz I can't think of another at the moment. sweatdrop

What are some everyday differences in culture that one would find in Italy in comparison to North America?
I figured that i should contribute something besides the "yum" posts up above, i think i was slightly hungry

I guess the culture here is slightly americanized, being that we live here. like we don't eat lunch everyday at noon/1. we will dare to eat one huge helping of pasta, and that's dinner.

I think it's a a lot of food stuff and how we eat it. xd

Well, to be on topic with the thread.
Even though I can't speak Italian,

There are 2 Italian exchange students in my school, but I never know what to talk to them about. They dont speak English very well, but I want to talk to them. I am learning Italian, too. What should I do?

(wow, how late am I with this... sweatdrop )
I don't know how it ended up, but the best thing isit giving a try, you can always start with small talking (is that right? confused ); you are all there to learn, doesn't matter if you make mistakes, and there's always a way to understand each other if you can't catch the words, you can use dictionaries, drawings, hands, facial expression... wink
trust me, there's no better (or funnier!) way to learn a language and make 'foreign' friends, even if it's frustrating, sometimes, it's definetly worth it 3nodding

I have a question or two .. maybe alot in my head which will not come out yet. smile

What are the typical times to eat in Italy and what are some foods that are normally eaten.
I am going to guess each section of the country have very different eating habits.

The North normally eat more meat than the south. Is that correct?

Are the drivers in Roma really that bad or could the ones in NYC be worse?

I agree with what tina_dn said! As for your question, it depends, usually in the north people eats earlier than the south, but don't take this for granted, it also depends on people's job. Anyway, usually lunch is about at 1p.m. and dinner about at 8p.m., but in some family you can eat at 12:30 and 7:30, in others at 2 and at 9, or even 10!
And you're right about the eating habit, anyway the 'classic' lunch is pasta. then a salad, or some meat, or soups...
Well I really don't know about the NYC drivers, but of course be careful in the big cities because there's a lot of traffic!

Hey Firewolfblue parli bene l'italiano che problemi hai con le poste?
se vuoi parlarne sennò non importa...
and yeah times for eating depends on where you are in Italy and also on your job...I can say that here the breakfast is different from other country because it isn't as important as lunch or dinner...

Is lunch a larger meal than dinner in Italy or is it the other way around there?
