Safiya nodded and smiled at him. "Thank you, Tyco. This whole day's been wonderful." She picked up the pine boughs and dragged them into the cave. Coming out again she waved her tail gently. "Good night. And you should definitely come visit soon." With that, she retreated into her cave to sleep.

~Time Skip~

Safiya looked up at the cloudless blue sky and sighed. Once again, her mind wandered back to Tyco and the ocean. She had been much better since that visit, finding her optimism and good cheer again. Better yet, she had much more self-confidence again. Still...she frowned up at the sky, she wanted Tyco to come visit. He got to show her the ocean, she wanted to show him the forests.

Tyco himself was actually in the midst of traveling. He knew he was in the right general location, having followed Safiya's directions and now catching her scent around the area. All he had to do was actually find her.

The entire time Tyco was just marveling at the novelty of the experience. Oh it wasn't really the trees or anything, he had his own forest at home. But there were so many differences!

There was none of that salty, brine smell that he'd come to take as a given by now. No sounds of ocean waves, or constant breezes in the trees. No storms or drizzle every other night. Not that he minded any of that, he actually liked it. Still, to be put in an environment without him had him marveling a little, comparing the two side-by-side with all his memories.

Perhaps that was why he was taking so long to find Safiya, a tast which should have been relatively simple...

A breeze brought a scent that tickled her nose with familiarity, but she didn't place it right away as she was still remembering Tyco and the ocean. She started to take a deep breath to sigh again and recognized what, or rather who, she was smelling. "Ah, Tyco!" she said, jumping to her feet. The scent was faint, but Safiya could tell where it was coming from.

Setting out, she followed the scent quickly. She hoped that he was actually here; if this was her imagination she'd feel incredibly foolish. Rounding a tree, she caught sight of the grey and red fox. He seemed to be staring about him, nearly as awestruck as she had been about the ocean...well, maybe not that bad. Still, Safiya paused, not wanting to interrupt him abruptly.

Tyco took another deep breath and let it out in a sigh. A small smile crossed over his face, for with that last breath he'd gotten a particularly strong whiff of a pleasant scent. He turned his head and, sure enough, there was the white and black-patterned female he'd been searching for, just within sight.

"Safiya," he called out cheerfully, heading over to her. He was surprised at how happy he was to see her again.

Safiya's face broke out into a radiant smile as the male spotted her. "Hi Tyco!" She called, meeting him halfway, tail waving gaily behind her. "I'm glad you could make it." she said, tone warm and happy. "How was your trip from the ocean? You didn't get lost or anything, right?" She asked, hoping her directions didn't make his journey hard. She started to feel nerves jumping a bit in her tummy, but she gave herself a scolding; she wouldn't be a good hostess if she started tripping over her feet.

Tyco's grinned widened in response to Safiya's own smile. He couldn't help it, the happiness was just so contagious.

"Not too much trouble," he said, laughing lightly. "I think I had it easiest, cause you knew the way back to your territory and described it so well. I'm sure you had a much harder time finding me than I did you."

Tyco was now level with Safiya, and gave the vixen an affectionate nuzzle in greeting. "Man, but it's nice to see you again," he said, blushing a little and hoping he hadn't crossed a line. "It's been kinda lonely by myself since you left."

Safiya laughed lightly. "I did get lost a couple of times, but it turned out perfect in the end since I arrived in the right place at the right time to catch you. So not too difficult." At his nuzzle, butterflies started fluttering in her stomach, but they were good ones. She wasn't nervous around Tyco at all, which she was very glad about. She smiled and returned the nuzzle.

"It's been lonely here too." She admitted. "I've been really looking forward to your visit. I hope I can show you how interesting my forests are." She said with a half smile.

"I'm sure you'd find me more than willing to be charmed by your home," Tyco replied genially, looking about him with interest. "From the little you told me about it last time you visited me I'd be willing to bet it won't take very long.

Of course," he added with a falsely solemn face, unable to keep his humor out of his eyes, "it's the company that enchants just as much as the scenery, so I expect your very best efforts!"

Safiya's faced turned a rather fetching shade of pink but she flicked her tail with her newly re-found confidence. "I'll do my best, sir." She said with light tone and amused eyes. She sketched a short bow and let out a quick laugh, swinging around to walk beside Tyco.

"Actually, I'm glad you came this week. It's been very sunny every day, and clear at night. It's perfect weather for stargazing. Even better, the leaves are just starting to turn," she pointed to the many different kinds of ash trees. "These are the ones that have already started turning. That tree's leaves will turn dark red and purple, and this one is golden yellow." She said, pointing to a Claret Ash and a Golden Ash. "Right now, only a few have turned, like pretty gemstones amid all the green. If it was later in the year, I'd show you the Scarlet Oak, those leaves get as red as your markings."

Tyco nodded, looking around him. "I've got one or two trees that turn in the autumn, they make very bright spots of color. These though," he turned around to look at Safiya, grinning. "It's a nice change from the normal gloom at home."

He turned his attention back to the plants, watching the way the green seemed to glow when the sun hit it. "Must be the dryer air, but the colors look sharper here."

"I think it may also be due to the fact that the gray of the ocean isn't washing the sky out. Orange stands out amazingly well against a blue sky." Safiya said, she wasn't sure that was it, but it was the closest guess she could come up with. Clearer air mixed with bluer sky sounded pretty legitimate to her.

"Come on, Tyco, let me show you my den, there's a freshwater pond right outside of it. And then we can go see the stars once the day ends." She said, wanting to show Tyco her home. Maybe he'd even go for a swim. It was cooler than summer, but not too cold to swim yet.

Tyco laughed and followed after Safiya. "You know I don't recall, but did we ever star-gaze while you were visiting me at the ocean?" Tyco was pretty sure he'd remember if they had; the magnificence of the night sky more than made up for the colorless pale blue of the day sky, for those who liked a bit of beauty over their heads.

I don't think so. I came at the end of last winter so there were clouds in the sky." She looked at him and paused only briefly, "Maybe I should come visit in the summer and see your starry sky. Same stars maybe, but I bet you can see more. Here the trees get in the way eventually."

They made their way back to her clearing and she hopped on a small boulder. "This is my home. My cave is over there, and that," she pointed on the other side of the boulder from Tyco, "is my pond. Most of the Algea is gone now so the water is very clear."

"Have you ever tried climbing up into the trees and watching the stars from there," Tyco asked, sitting down at the foot of Safiya's boulder and looking up at her. "Branches might get a little less in the way when you're in them."

His eyes roved over the other features Safiya had pointed out. The cave looked quite cozy and weather-tight. He wondered a little at living so close to the water, but Safiya probably kept insect-repelling herbs around for purposes like that. He'd done similar back when M-....when he'd still lived in a forest.

Though he had surpressed the thought, Tyco's smile was a touch melancholy.

"That would probably work great in late autumn or winter when the branches are bare. Possibly early spring too, when the leaves just start growing. But my trees get very, very thick with leaves. Enough so that I've used them to hide from large predators." Safiya replied, eyeing on of the maples. Maybe if she got high enough...but she wondered if the higher branches would even take her weight.

Turning back to Tyco, she caught his smile, lips immediately twitching into a sympathetically melancholy smile as well. Now wanting to slip into that mood again, she hopped off the boulder and headed towards her pond to give the male time, if he needed it.
