Snow didn't stand a chance against the Thunderbolt, and it was a clear one-hit knockout. It would have been even if he hadn't been hit by the earlier Quick Attack. Luke recalled the Charmander wordlessly. He hadn't expected any other result; after all, the battle had been to test the little fire lizard's reactions to his commands, not to achieve a victory.
He looked between the Pikachu and its trainer. "In the past few minutes, I could have killed you twenty-six times, at least three of which were with my bare hands." Not that he had been counting. "And children do this sort of thing for fun? They should be teaching them self-defense techniques, not how to run around with their pets." ...Or so said the ex-assassin.

"Pika!" Zeus cried triumphantly, then started flexing his chubby arms in a clear attempt at showing off.
"Zeus, stop that," Claire said with a reproachful glare. He really was incorrigible sometimes... Oh well. Her gaze shifted back up to Luke as he spoke, and a smirk spread across her face. She snorted slightly, but a chuckle escaped her despite her attempts to stifle it. "Not that you were counting or anything. But, thank you for not killing me twenty-six times." The other twenty three times were probably with guns, or some sort of morbid combination.
"Yes, I suppose they do," she said with a shrug. "Wandering around the world all alone except for their pokemon. It really is a questionable practice... My parents never let me go off like that," though she had begged and pleaded hundreds of times, "and the only thing I was allowed to do with pokemon would've been to become a coordinator." Obviously that didn't happen.

"Oh no, if I had been counting it probably would have been something closer to thirty-three and a half. Possibly three-quarters, but I wasn't paying nearly that much attention." Besides, he had gathered that killing or otherwise harming coworkers wasn't generally an acceptable definition of teamwork, unless, of course, it was sanctioned in advance by a superior. That was something of a depressing chain of thought, however, and Luke abandoned it before it went too far.
He made an unmistakeable sound of disapproval at the mention of coordinators. "Contests are even less useful than trainer journeys. It's like taking a gun and... painting it pink or something. And then using the barrel as a flower vase." At least trainer journeys attempted to teach the children to be self-sufficient, even if they taught them nothing else of use. Contests only taught them to be pretty. Pretty things, coordinators seemed to neglect, were easily ruined with a swift kick in the teeth.

She chuckled again as she walked back to the treadmill, patting the top of it with her hand so Zeus would know his work-out wasn't quite over. His ears drooped and he growled to himself before walking over ever so slowly, trying to take the smallest steps possible. Claire tapped her foot impatiently before grabbing the Pikachu by the scruff and putting him on the machine herself with a sigh, then quickly turned it up to a jog before turning to face Luke again. "Well, once again thank you for not killing me however many times. I'm sure being half-killed or three-quarters-killed would be equally unpleasant as being completely killed." Or maybe more? It wasn't exactly a pleasant thought, so she dropped it.
She walked away from the treadmill and over to the weight racks before putting her fingers to her mouth once more and whistling sharply. With a grateful cry Odette swooped down and landed awkwardly on the ground near her trainer. She wasn't exhausted from the work-out, but she was tiring quickly now. Claire opened the backpack on the bird's back before pulling out and putting away each weight on the rack. "Aren't they? Utterly ridiculous. Don't ever tell my family, or especially my sister that. They actually planned for her to be in contests, can you believe it? Even her name, too," she said with a slight scowl. She wasn't jealous by any means - she liked her name very much, and sometimes wished she could use it again, but unfortunately her fear of a certain organization finding her because of it prevented its use. "They wanted me to be a coordinator as well, but obviously that never happened." Thankfully they never forcefully pushed the matter, either, not that it would've helped them much.

As he watched Claire put the weights away, he remembered that he had finished his cool-down exercises himself. He retrieved his shoes from the shelf and stepped into them.
"Ugh." His reply was accompanied with something of a scowl as well. "Ridiculous is right. They could have at least planned something meaningful. Something like..." Soldier was the first thing that came to mind, followed closely by officer or huntsman. "I don't know. Something useful. Something not focused on being pretty."
When she spoke of her parents plans for her, he paused and crossed his arms, "And a good thing it didn't. You've got too many good characteristics to be caught up with something as silly as contests." If he were more of a sentimental type, he might have also considered the fact that he never would have had the opportunity to speak with Coordinator Claire, but of course he scarcely bothered with such trifling thoughts. Of course. He turned abruptly, beginning to gather his things. "Anyway, Lucas believed he was going to sleep early. I shouldn't stand around any longer."

"Tch," she said as she placed the last of the weights on the rack. It was harder with one hand, but certainly not impossible. Even if it was, she would never admit it. "Even if my sister hadn't been destined for the job since before she was born, she still probably would've chosen it. She always was one of those prissy-types who always wants to be in the spotlight."
Odette cooed happily when her trainer carefully unstrapped the bag and took it off the bird's back. The young woman snorted, sounding amused at some thought, as she stroked the Pidgeot's back where the bag had been. "The look on her face when I brought Odette home was hilarious. She was so jealous, probably still is." The memory always amused her, except the parts where her sister tried to insist their parents take the then-Pidgey away from her - "because she's not going to be a coordinator, she doesn't need pokemon! Especially pretty ones!" Stupid little...
Oh, Luke was still talking.
"Good characteristics?" What was...? Oh, contests, right. She couldn't help but smirk a little, stroking Odette's head now. "And what good characteristics might those be?" Yes, she should be leaving soon too. Odette was finished, she couldn't do much in regards to exercise anyway, and Zeus would be finished in a minute or two as well.

As Luke listened, he slowly became aware of a distinct desire to prove his earlier thought by kicking this sister in the teeth. It was an easy maneuver to defend against if one wasn't caught up trying to think of the most graceful way to collapse in a bloody heap on the ground.
Arceus help that girl if Luke ever had the opportunity to meet her.
"What? I don't know. Things." Mr. Social Graces had gone to sleep long before, leaving only Mr. What Is Polite Conversation to defend against the unexpected question. The slight fluster to his tone indicated the absence of any intent to embarrass himself further by elaborating. He instead maintained his crossed arms, eyes wandering to the running Pikachu.

Luke wasn't the only one who had the distinct desire to kick this girl in the teeth. "My parents even named her Stella. Stella. Can you believe it?" She scoffed, and Odette clicked her beak disapprovingly. "Stella Bambina." Claire normally wasn't the type to be so forthcoming with personal information, but it just furthered the desire - her desire, at any rate - to kick the other woman in the teeth to mar that pretty face of hers. What her parents were thinking when they named her sister was beyond her.
"'Things?' That's very specific, thank you," she said with an amused chuckle. Men usually weren't very good with compliments, and Luke seemed even less apt at the practice considering he was Mr. Emotionless Could Kill You Thirty-Three And A Half Times. Or three-quarters. The thought still amused her, at any rate.

His eyes returned to Claire suddenly. "Please tell me where your parents live. This is inexcusable." At this point it was becoming rather unclear whether or not he was still bluffing, even to Luke himself. His imagination had already connected this coordinator Stella's face - regardless of the fact that he had never seen it - with a very specific gun from his arsenal. A handgun, shiny and petit, but oh so deliciously lethal. Now there was true beauty.
"Lucas could probably pick out the specifics if you wanted to hear them. He's better with words." Better at finding them and better at using them. The original of the two egos might have been clumsy with speaking sometimes, but he always conveyed himself easily and sincerely.

She couldn't help but chuckle again, patting Odette's head. "Stretch," she told the bird before walking over to the treadmill, tactfully avoiding Luke's question. "Isn't it? It's such a horrible name, I've no idea where they came up with it." Yes, she wasn't the least bit jealous of her sister's name - she preferred her own, anyway. "I don't even know if she still lives with them, she's older than me. She could be traveling around at competitions, or she could be rotting in a ditch somewhere for all I know." For all I care is what she had been very tempted to say.
She leaned on the treadmill and watched Zeus thoughtfully, turning the speed down a bit, and tapped one foot on the floor a couple times absently. "True," it was obvious Lucas was more of a people person, if that was the proper term, "but Lucas wasn't the one that mentioned me having good characteristics, was he?" She teased. For some reason it was a good deal of fun to do such things to Luke, especially considering he could get flustered if she used the right words.

"I'd say the parents that gave her that ridiculous name are equally at fault," he muttered. Surely it couldn't be that much work to find her anyway. He would just have to pick a city hosting a contest and wait. Of course, that would entail spending a lot more time out in the open than was safe. Galactic may have had little to no presence in Kodo, but anywhere else was fair game. It was a dangerous risk to take, even for the reward of breaking faces.
Luke was completely unaware of the reddening of his face. Had he been, he would have dropped the conversation altogether and left, but since he was not he simply continued to stand with his arms folded, shifting his weight between his feet. "...Is this some kind of payback?"

"Of course they are," she agreed easily enough, peering down at Zeus again. Her brain wasn't making the connection that Luke's gun would probably love to aim at whoever named her sister as well as Stella herself. "She certainly lives up to it, though. I still can't believe they planned for me to be a coordinator too." The last statement was in a more thoughtful tone as Claire frowned, pondering something curious. Her sister's name had been specifically chosen for the purpose of a lovely coordinator name - as if - but her own name was completely different. It was a thought she'd considered many times before but still couldn't understand. Perhaps she should've asked her parents when she had the chance?
With a small sigh she turned the machine off, and the tired Pikachu flopped off with a heavy sigh of his own before stretching of his own accord. Violet eyes turned back to Luke before Claire made an amused noise, the corner of her mouth twitching. Finally she relented and a grin spread across her face at the sight of Luke's reddening cheeks. "It wasn't intended to be, but obviously it is." She then lifted her hand and vaguely motioned towards her own cheeks. "Your, uh, cheeks are turning a bit red, Luke." Oh this was priceless. Absolutely the highlight of her evening, hands down. Making Mr. No-Emotions blush. She would hold this over him for the rest of forever.

He snorted quietly. 'Stella.' If she was going to live up to a name, it should have been something like Anne (Bonny), Joan (of Arc), Artemisia (I of Caria), or... or Rambo. Something. Something that wasn't Stella.
His conscious reaction to Claire's observation was to swell with indignation. He unconscious reaction was to blush even more. Luke knew not the meaning of retreat - fortunately, it was an instinctive response and took care of itself. The man stumbled forward slightly, his expression suddenly very sleepy and confused.
"Ah..." He blinked a few times. "Wha... Claire?"

Her grin widened as Luke's face grew even redder, and she couldn't help but chuckle as he inevitably retreated to let Lucas take over. "Yes, Lucas?" She said, covering her mouth with her hand to stifle the chuckling. "What is it?"
Obviously it would be exceedingly easy to play this off as her just finishing a conversation with him, and oh dear, how could he have forgotten already? Oh well, another one of those memory lapses - they happened often enough. Lucas would just pack up and go to bed, none the wiser.
And Claire would still have the fact she made Luke blush to hold over his head for the rest of eternity.

"What?" He stared. "...What?" He didn't sleep-walk. Or at least, he had never sleep-walked before. And he had done a lot of sleeping in his life. A lot of walking too, but never at the same time. "......What?"
Sleepy Lucas had a very limited vocabulary, apparently.
