True, he did mention it was nearly commonplace now, but it still had to be stressful to suddenly find oneself in a completely different area or position, no matter how frequently it happened. When he made such a casual, indirect threat, Claire merely raised a brow curiously. She was safe here, and unless he wanted to risk getting himself in an incredible amount of trouble, she didn't think she needed to worry. "Interesting."
She shook her head then, though her brows furrowed and her expression became one of mild confusion. "No - I wasn't aware of it, but I was also in the espionage department." Well, that would explain why she never saw him around, though she did hear his name fairly regularly, just never associated with his position.
One mark..? "If I may ask - who was it that he falsely thinks got away..?" Her curiosity was getting the better of her - plus it was intriguing to talk to someone else from Galactic. It created a feeling of some sort of kinship, though she attempted to shove it back down, along with the memories.

"My best friend." He spoke collectively; as Lucas's partner, Morrison had dealt equally with both of his facets and was easily considered a friend to both. "Oberon. I don't know if you would know of him, though. He died ten years ago." His name might have been mentioned here and there in records, but he was by and large an unremarkable agent.

"I'm sorry," was all she could say. But, if he shouldn't have, why did he? ..no, disobeying orders was sticky business. If he'd been caught, well.. she wasn't sure of the punishments an assassin would face in Galactic for purposefully not killing his target. "I was only in Galactic for two or three years, so the name doesn't ring any bells." No, she would've been 12 at the time, so there was no chance she'd know him.
"I don't want to trouble you further," or rather, with more potentially painful questions, "but when Lucas - you -" Arceus this was so crazy "Ah, what's the word.. I don't know," she said with a frustrated sigh and rubbed her right temple. "When you leave and Lucas comes back" oh Arceus this was so crazy "what should I tell him? He's more than likely going to be confused and ask me all about it. I won't tell him what you've told me, of course, so what should I say?" Should she just say 'nothing' or 'oh don't worry about it, you just jumped me for no reason'?
...oh sweet Arceus this was so freaking crazy.

"Nothing to be sorry about." The volume of his voice quieted considerably. "I don't regret it. My existence doesn't allow for regret."
As Claire floundered with her wording, a sight - very slight - smirk worked its way to Lucas's lips. It wasn't anything like the usual charming grin he wore, but it was there. "He won't know we've been talking. Have you ever been anesthetized? It's something like that. He also won't push for an explanation if you dismiss it, so there's no need to worry. And..." he turned his head, placing his eyes on a nearby wall, "I suppose I owe you an apology, don't I? For messing with your head." Because it was terribly obvious that that's exactly what their conversation was doing.

She noticed the small smirk and her level of frustration with the situation raised slightly, but she nodded at his words anyway. "Alright, hopefully he doesn't ask too much." She'd feel bad just dismissing his questions, of course, but there wasn't much she could do. It would probably be a given that the... whatever this part of him was would return if she started telling him too much.
"Ah, I suppose you do," she replied, "though I'm not sure if you're messing with my head on purpose or not. Most of the confusion is because I haven't encountered this sort of thing before. It's quite hard to wrap one's head around," she explained, though he probably could already guess that.

His smirk spread just the tiniest bit wider. "I'm not so sadistic that I would try and drive a girl insane. For what it's worth, I'm sorry for confusing you. It has been nice talking with you, though." The last real conversation he had had with someone that hadn't been about a mission... it had been so long he couldn't even remember. It was entirely possible that he had never had such a conversation. It wasn't as though he minded solitude, but company was a nice change.
He blinked, and the stoic mask fell away, giving way to a slightly confused expression. "Sorry," Lucas reached up a hand to run through his hair, "what were you saying?"
Merry, noticing the shift, resumed her approach and took up her perch on her human's shoulder. Her quiet chiming was met with a muttered "what's up, Mer?"

Claire nodded and was about to reply when the expression on his face suddenly changed, and Lucas was back to his normal, confused self. She paused at the unexpected change, but couldn't help the small smile and amused noise that escaped her throat. "Ah, nothing, don't worry about it," she said, waving her hand a bit as if to physically dismiss the thought.
Arceus, she must be going crazy.
Zeus bounded over to his trainer and stopped at her feet, looking up at her with the most confused look he'd probably ever had. She simply shook her head at him and bent down to let him climb up onto her right shoulder.
"Lucas?" She started as she turned her gaze back to the man before her, "I won't talk to anyone about your previous occupation and I'd greatly appreciate it if you didn't tell anyone about mine. It's not something I go around telling just anyone about." She did not want to talk to anyone about it at all - at least, no one who wasn't there, too. Except for the elites and higher-ups, of course, since they were the only ones that had access to that information. From her file, at least.

"Ah, well... okay." He scratched the side of his face idly. He was still rather curious, but it couldn't have been anything too terribly important, he supposed...
"Of course," he agreed, suddenly solemn. "Don't worry. I understand just as well as you do how bad it would be if this sort of thing made its way through the ranks." No one wanted to have their loyalty questioned in an organization that offed traitors, and no one knew better than Lucas and Claire how easy it was to lose trust to the suspicion of superiors.

Thankfully he didn't press the matter, and Claire was rather relieved. She couldn't exactly tell him everything, all she could do was insist it was nothing.
She nodded in response, grateful he was agreeing but it was obvious he would - he was in the same situation, after all. "Thank you, and no, that wouldn't be good at all." She also knew quite well how traitors were treated, and had no intention of experiencing any sort of repeat of what happened months ago.
"Sorry Lucas, but I do have to go now." Where had she been going before she'd gotten distracted and walked over here? She couldn't remember anymore. "It was a pleasure meeting you, Lucas," she said honestly. Even if her brain did feel like it was going to explode at any minute, he seemed like a nice person. Just.. a very confusing person.

"All right," he said with a nod, moving back towards the guitar and taking a seat with it. Merry detached from his shoulder and moved to Snow's side; she imagined the Charmander was in want of an explanation, and she was the only one that could give it. "It's been good talking to you. Thanks for, uh... You know." Tip-of-the-tongue syndrome was a devil. The notes of his guitar returned to the surrounding area, and his friendly grin returned to his face. "See ya around, huh?"

"Yeah, you too," she said with a nod as she walked to the corner to continue on... wherever it was she'd been heading to before she got distracted. Arceus, where had she intended to go...? The memory flitted around at the very edges of her grasp, but no matter. Maybe it would come to her if she kept walking.
She paused though, turning to look at Lucas again. Her expression seemed a bit confused yet thoughtful, as if she was trying to come to a decision. She reached it, and her expression cleared. "Amalthea," she said, and then, just in case, "agent."
Obviously she didn't want to expand on either word nor spend any time talking about them, because as soon as she offered both to him, she turned and disappeared around the corner.

He looked up when she slowed to a stop and turned back to him. He raised his eyebrows slightly at the words she spoke. He recognized the word but chose not to remark on it, instead nodding and returning his attention back to his guitar when she left.
"Been an interesting day, huh guys?" he remarked offhandedly to the nearby pokemon. Lucas, in his focus, did not notice the incredulous expressions with which they regarded him. He didn't know the half of it.
