Nyx chuckled at Mau's choice of princess and animal companion. Liam was very girly, and they could probably even get him into a dress... Her train of thought was derailed, however, when the pair of pokemon knocked something off of the table.
"I'll get it." She stood with a sight and walked over to the table, bending over to pick up the picture. Nyx looked at it before she moved to set it down; A green haired woman and a younger Mau. Was that his sister? "Who's this?" She held up the picture for Mau to see before placing it back on the table and returning to her seat on the bed.

Mau thanked her as she got up. He glared at the two pokemon who instantly lay down and looked deathly ashamed of having broken something. But he didn't scold them before Nyx called his attention away. Given the assortment of pictures, it was likely one of his former team mates: Koi, Nia, or Roy. But when he looked up his features paled slightly. Of all the photos he had, that had to be the one that fell. When Nyx sat back down he cleared his throat.
"My w-" he paused swallowed hard. "My former wife."

"Oh, alright." Nyx nodded and fidgeted around for a moment, getting her legs situated and what not. It took a moment to sink in. "Wait- What?" That had not been at all what she expected to come from Mau. He had been married? That seemed unlikely... And invoked a strange feeling in the pit of her stomach that she couldn't really describe. Whatever it was, it was awkward.

He looked at Nyx, and the vaguely distraught face she seemed to be making. As if it was something strange that he'd been married. "It... was a long time ago. I was 26." He offered vague information. "It is, in part, because of her that I'm in team rocket." Of course her part was relatively small in the man's becoming a rocket, she still had a hand in it.

He had been married around her age; Nyx had never even considered the idea. She had been, as much of a cliche' as it was, married to her work all her life. "Oh."
Nyx often seemed to forget that not everyone joined Team Rocket for the same reasons she did, or that many of them were trying to escape something or someone. She never asked. It didn't matter, they were all part of the team now, and most people didn't like talking about it. But, she was curious about Mau's reasons. He was, after all, the closest thing she had to a human friend in the organization. "...What happened?" She asked as delicately as she could.

Mau fiddled with the hem of his pantleg a moment. It was the only sign he might be even a little uncomfortable talking about this. "She..." He cleared his throat. "She divorced my sorry a** after 2 years." He leaned his head against the wall while looking at Nyx. "It was my fault. I was stupid when I was young."

Nyx placed a hand on Mau's back, "That doesn't seem fair, everyone is stupid when they're young..." She gave him an uneasy smile, "I even managed to kill my pikachu when I was small..." It wasn't an easy thing to say, the guilt had sat with her for all of her life and she'd never told anyone, but Mau was opening up to her... So it only seemed fair she share something with him. Something other than a love of princess-themes.

Mau blinked, looking up at her in a slight bit of surprise. She was... touching him gently. Without him initiating the contact? He was about to tell her that his ex's actions were justified when Nyx spoke of a pikachu. "You... did?" He wasn't sure what to say to that. He almost wanted to know what happened. How old was she? How did she do it?

"Yeah..." Nyx sighed and chuckled, "Cheese. I was dead-set on being a scientist, and then mom and dad got me a chemistry set. I sort of... Used Cheese as a... test subject." She shook her head and cleared her throat, continuing on with forced confidence in her voice. "It was stupid, and probably doesn't really make you feel any less like you did something stupid. Whatever it was." Why Nyx felt a need to make Mau feel better was beyond her; She dropped her hand and placed it in her lap, silently scolding it for acting on its own accord. If that poor hand could speak, it would have argued that its owner had moved it by choice.

"Thank you, Nyx." He said softly. He looked at her with kindness in his eyes, but his whole face looked worn, perhaps even strained. It wasn't that what she had said that cheered him up, but the fact that she was trying. He had a faint, but warm smile. "I mean it. Thank you."

Nyx smiled at Mau and said nothing for almost an 'uncomfortable silence's' length of time, and then realized what she was doing and cleared her throat. "Oh! Look at the time!" What was she doing, watching princess movies with Mau, making Mau feel better, being glad Mau was okay and out of the infirmary, it didn't make any sense! No, she had to get out of there and back to work, where things made sense, even if Allen was acting like a maniac.
"You... Get some rest." She scooted off of his bed and made her way over to the door, forgetting her movie--though Aki probably wanted to borrow it.
