Novvus was almost at the village when he heard a howl close by. The sound came from his left, apparently a couple of yards into the trees. "That's strange," said the dark-skinned boy to himself. "I haven't heard any reports of wolves this close to the village before. I better go check it out." Novvus deviated from his path and headed west, crossing the tree line again. The trees here were thin and spaced apart, making approaching the scene undetected virtually impossible. He crept as silently as possible to the place where he heard the howl. From his vantage point Novvus could make out a clearing in the trees, but because of the way they grew could not see what was happening very well. For a few moments there was a struggle, then silence. Deeming it safe to go investigate, Novvus approached an interestingly gory scene. The irony scent of blood, a lot of it, reached his nostrils. He walked around noting human hand- and footprints, as well as hoof-prints in the soil. Whatever animal was killed it was dragged off in that direction. thought Novvus, looking at a faint glow in the distance. Novvus traveled towards the brightening light until he heard the crackle of flames. The odor of cooking meat hung heavy in the air. He heard a voice, followed by a bark. Who is that? wondered the dark-skinned boy, trying yo get a better look at the person sitting behind the fire.

Kaji suddenly went stiff, and sniffed the air. "Kurosai We're not alone!" Kaji whispered urgently as he popped his claws. The wolf's ears perked up and Kurosai sniffed the air until he turned towards the scent of the intruder. He barked and Kaji looked in that direction as well. "Who's there? Why are you intruding on my home?" Kaji asked as he stood up. He lept up into the tree's to get a better view and landed on all fours. He saw a dark skinned boy standing on the edge of his grove.
"You were not invited into my territory." Kaji growled as Kurosai circled around behind the boy. Kurosai growled and snarled trying to force the boy out into the open so that Kaji could properly assess him. "And if you touch that wolf I'll tear out your intestines and hang you with them." He added as he popped out his fangs as well. Kaji sniffed the air again and a puzzled look crossed his face. "You're from mist? Were you sent to kill me? If you are then I'll gut you just like that b*****d of a teacher." Kaji growled as he jumped down from the tree and approached the boy on all fours.

Novvus hear barking and noticed the head of the person behind the fire snap to face this direction. "s**t, i've been spotted!" muttered the dark-skinned boy. A gruff voice called out from the clearing, asking who was there and why he was intruding on the territory. Novvus caught a glimpse of a feral-looking person jumping from the ground to a low branch on a tree a few feet away. He tried backing away but a snarl coming from behind told him that there was no means of escape. Novvus turned to see a wolf, no doubt the one who had made come investigate. Pieces of raw meat were caught between its fangs, which were bared threateningly. The person in the tree turned out to be a young adult about his age, despite his wild and feral behavior. The dark skinned boy raised his arms in submission. If push came to shove, he would have to protect himself. "Yes, i'm from the Mist Village, but no, I was not sent to kill you." answered Novvus, but then paused. "Wait, you did what to a teacher?!" he asked in disbelief. Novvus had gone to the academy but never had he heard of a student attacking an academy instructor.

Kaji looked at the boy oddly when he asked about what he had done to his teacher. "What part of I GUTTED him don't you understand? He hurt my friend so I killed him." Kaji said as he stood up to his full muscled and feral stature. He retracted his fangs but left his claws out. "You don't seem aggressive...perhaps I was overly hasty. Kurosai, down boy." Kaji said as he retracted his claws. "You can come into my home but one wrong move and Kurosai will be eating you instead of that deer." Kaji said as he walked back to the fire and took a chunk of nearly raw meat out of the fire and gnawed on it savagely.
He looked over at Novvus "Are you going to eat? It's a fresh kill, the meat is good." Kaji asked as he took his second piece and cracked the bone open to suck out the marrow. He licked the blood off his lips with a smile as blood dripped down his chin. He walked over to the nearby river and dunked his head in the water to drink the cold water. When he had his fill of the meat and the river water Kaji curled up with Kurosai and sat by the fire. The wolf was about Kaji's size and must have weighed a lot more. "Name's Kaji, and this is Kurosai. He's my family, and my best friend. If any harm comes to him I'll kill the one responsible, that's why I killed my teacher" Kaji said introducing himself.

Kyuzaku huffed, and exited the room. His mind was storming, and the ferocity in his eyes reflected it. Damn chuunin. He may of thought that listing off our strengths would be helpful, but its not. Announcing that I'm stronger than the others... it breeds resentment. As if our personalities didn't do that for us. Sorry, but I have little patience for incompetence or insubordination, a trait that each one of these genin seem to hold dear. Kyuzaku closed his eyes as they exited the building, Forget it, it's mission time, not fighting time. Focus on the mission, and we'll be done for the day.
Kyu heard the smiling kid's observation from below, "Yeah, Southside. Let me get the shop's address from the scroll." Kyuzaku unraveled the parchment, and scanned the mission information. He shifted his eyes over every piece of readable text, and found no useful information. Although there was no given address, it did hint that was on the main market strip. How helpful. it's like a treasure map without dots, or an X. Instead, the map maker just circled the entire island on a map. Kyuzaku grumbled as he rolled up the scroll, "No given address, the only hint is that it's on the main market strip. Let's get this over with."
Kyu took a running start, then jumped up a story to an signpost hanging off the side of a building. He bounded up to the next level to a flagpole, then catapulted onto the rooftops of the city. He waited up a moment for his team mates to catch up, then raced off to the Marketplace in South Kirigakure. As he approached, his pace slowed, and he moved to ground level, one story at a time. In one fluid motion, he bounded and weaved from a rooftop, to a balcony railing, to a crumbling wall, to the ground. Kyuzaku hadn't been to the Marketplace in ages, but he didn't remember things being this bad. The stands and shops looked very old and run down. Stalls featured ripped tarps and makeshift fixes for their tables. If a stall's table didn't look like it was going to split in two under its own weight, their wares were pretty low quality (seeing as they probably payed so much for a replacement table). Shops had broken windows; crooked, dented doors; boarded up shop-fronts; and broken shingles at the front doors to match the missing ones above. If they had one or less of the above, the shop had some manner of vulgarity defiling the shop front in multicolor spray paint.
Kyuzaku walked down the street in silence for a bit, then stopped. He put his hand over his eyes in disgust, "You've got to be kidding me..." Between two particularly damaged buildings was a building like none other on the street. Amidst the impoverished stalls and beat up shops was a building with bricks that practically glowed. The windows were spotless and intact, and the roofing looked brand-new. Through the crystal clear windows, you could see the fresh stock of goods inside. Kyu laughed nervously, "You don't think they touched up the place for us, do ya?" Those thieves aren't going to fall for this... Never....

As they walked out of the missions office Rinku let out a sigh. He was not the least bit excited about failing the mission for his team due to his obvious inferior past. The Inuzuka walked beside him, though fairly shorter then him he exclaimed that he shouldn’t be so negative or else hed put the team in danger. At first he thought he was receiving sympathy from a comrade, then quickly realized it was more like a warning, similar to Kyuzaku's only slightly less obvious. Rinku nodded. He’s right… just don’t mess anything up Rinku… If you can do at least one thing right maybe Rio will notice you… He snapped out of it quickly to try and focus on the mission. Kyuzaku ran ahead and jumped off to a building and turned as if to wait up. Rinku sighed According to that guys list of Kyuzaku’s amazing achievements and his attitude, he’s going to be one huge show off the whole time… what a pain… Rinku ran after and leaped up to the height of the building. This was elementary really and by now it was second nature to focus chakra to make large bounds and leaps. Kyuzaku then turned and began to fly in the direction of the mission objective. Rinku ran after, he leapt over the buildings until finally Kyuzaku finally began to slow down. He did some crazy combination to get to the ground. Rinku sighed and just leaped to the ground without any unnecessary use of energy. He walked silently behind the others and took a look through the market place. Man… this place really went to hell didn’t it… Suddenly Kyuzaku became irritated. Rinku looked over to see the large brick building. It didn’t fit on the street at all, it was the best looking place on the street and it attracted so much attention to itself that it was obviously a trap. The buildings around it were not even made from the same material let alone a close structure. Rinku couldn’t help, but laugh a little. But then he sighed, he really didn’t want this mission to take any longer than it needed to. Afterall, if Rinku was a thief, this would be the last place in the world he’d go to. Rinku racked his brain for answers past this obstacle. Ok… theres a couple ways to do this… For one, we can destroy the place and make it look like the rest of the buildings around here… alternatively they could go find a better shop, one that wasn’t so obvious to stake out there and then trap the thieves. Rinku looked up at the other two. He could have voiced his opinion, but he felt that these two, who had had special trainining would probably have a fool proof plan to catch the bandits. Rinku nodded.

The feral boy stood up on his legs as he reiterated his previous statement, revealing muscle that was previously obscured. He acknowledged that Novvus did not seem aggressive, admitting to being hasty, and instructed the wolf to back down. The feral boy invited the dark-skinned boy into the clearing which he called his home, and warned that if Novvus tried anything it would be him that the wolf would be eating instead of the deer that was now cooking over the fire. Novvus mulled the situation over. This is the first person i've come across since leaving underground dormitory that i can relate to on some level. Let's see how this plays out... Having made up his mind, Novvus followed the boy into the clearing.
As they approached the fire, the feral boy tore a chunk of the cooking meat off the main body and gnawed on it. He looked over at Novvus and asked him if he was going to eat, telling him the meat was fresh. The dark-skinned boy thought about it. "I'm partial to meat, but i'll try some since i never had deer before." Novvus waited until the boy returned from drinking water from a small river close by before walking over to the deer and pulling out a kunai from the holster on his leg. He selected an area that was close to the fire and cut a few slabs onto his hand. The meat was hot, but not sufficiently so to cause burning. Novvus walked over to a tree a few feet away from where the feral boy lay curled with his wolf companion.
The feral boy introduced himself as Kaji and his wolf as Kurosai. He stated that if anyone hurt Kurosai, he'd kill them, which is why he killed his academy instructor. Novvus empathized with Kaji. Even though he had committed a crime, it was to protect a friend. The dark-skinned boy took a bite of the deer meat and found it delicious. It was not as tough as beef, but more fibrous than chicken, a perfect balance of texture. "Since you opened up to me it is only fair that i do the same. My name is Novvussor, but you can call me Novvus for short. I am the last member of my family alive." he said with a hint of sadness in his voice. To lighten the mood, Novvus tossed his peanut pouch over to Kaji. "Catch! They're peanuts. You can have some. They are a good substitute for meat."

Kaji smirked a little as the boy opened up to him as well. He was caught off guard by the toss of the bag of peanuts but Kurosai caught it and dropped it in Kaji's lap. "Thanks boy." He said as he opened up the bag. The smell of this food was odd and very oily. Kaji's nose crinkled a bit. "You actually eat these things?" Kaji asked as he put one in his mouth. The nut was crunchy and as he expected very oily, but they weren't as bad as he thought they would be. "I guess they aren't that bad." He said as he closed the bag and tossed it back to Novvus.
His nose crinkled again as he sniffed the air. "Storm's coming." Kaji growled. He looked up as he felt a cold draft on his skin. "It's gonna be a nasty one too..." He muttered as he looked over at Kurosai. The black wolf stood up and shook it's shaggy, but braided fur and stretched. Kaji got to his feet as well and then looked over at the fire. "We need to find shelter. We won't last long in the storm." Kaji said gruffly as he dug up the ground beside the fire, covering the flames with dirt and stones. "Follow me, there's an old wolf den not far from here, we'll be warm and dry there." Kaji said as he got to his feet, and set off into the thicker part of the forest.
As they past through the forest Kaji was constantly sniffing the air, and changing his direction until they reached their destination. "This is it, just under this tree. It's a tight squeeze to get it but it's roomy when you get inside." Kaji said as he crawled inside.

Novvus watched as Kurosai caught the pouch for Kaji and dropped it into his lap. The feral boy thanked his canine companion and opened the bag, sniffing its contents. "You actually eat these things?" he asked, popping a peanut into his mouth. After tasting it, Kaji commented by saying "I guess they aren't that bad." He closed the pouch and tossed it back to Novvus, who put it in his pocket. The feral boy sniffed the air and announced that bad a storm was coming. Novvus gazed at the sky, noticing a mass of dark swirling clouds clumping together. The air suddenly began to get chilly, causing an involuntary shiver to pass through his body. He hated the cold, and it would take him about forty-five minutes to reach the house form their present location. "We need to find shelter. We won't last long in the storm." said Kaji, walking over to the fire and put it out with dirt and stones.
The sudden darkness caused a short spell of blindness to afflict Novvus. Once his eyes were accustomed to the dimmer light, he followed Kaji through the forest. The trees began to get bigger and started growing closer together. They reached their destination, a hole on the side of a small decline. Novvus crawled in after Kaji and was followed by shortly Kurosai. "After the storm lets up, we'll go to my house." called Novvus as he squeezed into the small opening. "It's not too far from here."

Following the other two, silently, Hibiki bounded across the rooftops on all fours with Kuro not far behind. He kept up with Kyu as he began to think about this new formation. Alright, judging by what I've seen or heard, Kyuzaku is an all around good shinobi. His weakness must be something absurd or similar to that idea. Covering his bad side will be hard to do if I don't know what his bad side is. While Rinku on the other hand is the overall weakest member, or at least he has no exceptional achievements like being in the Mission-Oriented Honors Program, or filling a certain role like Medic or Tracker nin. This means I'll have to keep an eye out for him, but also watch Kyu. As a squad, we need to cover each other's weaknesses, while helping out with our strengths. He sighed, We all know combat isn't my strong suit, so playing defensively while those two deal blows head first is probably a good idea. His concentration was broken when both of his teammates descended towards the ground. Kuro and Hibiki hopped after Kyu before scanning the area. It was horrid, everything was either destroyed, broken-down, or demoralized in some way. He audibly sighed again before crouching low to the ground and began sniffing, Kuro following his lead moments after. The place reeked with a certain odor, in fact, this odor was everywhere. Him and Kuro sniffed everything, including the stalls, tables, the windows that were broken, the decaying doors, and even some of the shop owners, much to their annoyance. After catching up to his two squad members, he looked the practically perfect structure up and down, before sniffing around the area again. Coming to a halt, he stood up straight and looked towards Kyu and Rinku. "My analysis of the area is quite obvious, but I might as well share what I have found, and the assumptions I will make of it. As we see coming here, everything has been obviously tampered with. Utilizing my acute senses, I have noticed something that might be as obvious for you guys. Every store or shop here has a certain reoccurring smell. I am going to assume that this scent is from the bandits. Now," He made a motion towards the newest looking building. "This place does not have the same scent, at all. So I have two assumptions that can be made. One, either this place is just new, and shall be 'hit up' soon. Two, this place is being blackmailed, or threatened, and to keep the bandits off of them, they pay a small fee. Three, this might be a bit wild but, they are hiring thieves to destroy the competition. Hibiki ended his intel with a small nod, as Kuro nodded simultaneously. "Now, I do not want to intrude on your idea for a plan, as you are the leader of this group and should invent one, but I do have a couple of ideas. We can either hide out within the area and wait for someone suspicious to come along, or to go inside to gather some more data as to the situation. If either number two, or number three, of my assumptions are correct, the shop owner could tell us something." He paused for a second as his smile widened a bit, "However, you are the boss, you don't have to use my ideas. Think of whatever you want, I'll go along with it, kekeke." He added a small chuckle at the end, to add a bit more button-pushing to his analysis.

Kaji groaned as the rain started pouring down on the hillside. He watched as the animals scattered for cover when the lightning and thunder started. He growled and backed further into the den. "I hate storms...This one is going to last for a while, and it's going to get damn cold out too." Kaji said as he noticed a cold front coming in from the north. "So what happened to your family? Mine was taken away and imprisoned. Kurosai here taught me how to survive isn't that right boy?" Kaji said as he watched the rain pour down outside.
Kurosai barked in agreement and nuzzled Kaji's arm. Kaji smirked and put the wolf in a playful headlock and the two began to wrestle each other in a game normally played by wolf pups. The game ended with Kaji pinning down Kurosai and laughing as the wolf tried to look cute to get out of it. "That's not working on me Kurosai, I win fair and square." He chuckled.

Just as Korosai got into the den the rain reached them. The downpour came down in mighty sheets, soaking the forest in mere minutes. Novvvus turned to face Kaji when he asked about his family, sharing his own family's sad past. "Well, originally i was from Wind Country. My clan lived in the desert, living off of the crops they grew. I don't remember much of my parents, since they were killed on a mission when i was very young. My grandfather took care of me and trained me in the ninja arts, then brought me here. After a while he was assigned a mission and he never returned. Ever since then i've been living on my own." Novvus watched as Kaji and Kurosai engaged in a friendly wrestling match. It's been ages since he played with anyone, and those moments were always short-lived. Kaji pinned the braided wolf to the ground, laughing when it tried to make a disarmingly cute expression to try to get away. A smile formed on Novvus' face. There is so much more to this world than bloodshed and grief... he thought, remembering an old lesson that his grandfather had taught him: "Even through the chaos caused by grief, the silver lining shines for us all as a beacon of hope."
The dark-skinned boy payed attention to the sky and noticed the clouds thin a little. Outside, the downpour lost most of its initial power, and the wind had calmed down as well. "Hey Kaji, i think that we should take advantage of the break in the storm's power. If we stay here we're gonna be in trouble. Follow me and stay close, the rain is going to make tracking my scent difficult. C'mon!" Novvus crawled out of the hole into the rain and began making his way back to the clearing where they had been eating, constantly looking over his shoulder to check that Kaji and Kurosai were still there. He crossed the clearing and entered the area where the trees grew further apart. A short distance away he could see the back wall. "We made it!" Drenched to the bone, he ushered Kaji up the three porch stairs. Novvus put his hand on the knob, which glowed blue for a split second, then turned it, opening the door to his home. The immediate room was a living room with wooden chairs. "Wait here while i get us some towels." Novvus rushed to the closet and pulled out three blue towels, tossing two to Kaji. "My home is your home." he said, closing the door and turning on the light.

Kaji weighed his options of staying here in the den and waiting out the storm and going with Novvus. He decided that Novvus was probably right and gestured for Kurosai to follow him as they made their way out of the den. Kaji dropped down to all fours and began to run after Novvus, with Kurosai close behind. As the rain came down it stung Kaji's eyes. The cold may have died down but something still didn't smell right. He trusted Novvus enough to follow him all the way to the clearing and then stopped for a moment to gauge the surroundings. He quickly decided that a safe location was in order, and hurried off after Novvus. When they got to the house Kaji waited until Novvus opened the door and barreled past him. He shook the water off of his body and dried himself that way, Kurosai soon followed suit. He was almost completely dry by the time Novvus had come back with the towels. "There was someone following us outside. I could smell 'em." Kaji growled as he crouched by the window. Kurosai barked angrily in agreement. "Probably an assassin sent after me. You sure you wanna hide me here?" Kaji asked as he saw movement outside.
Kaji's lips pulled back to reveal his fangs as they slid out of their sheathing. He was obviously very tense and very, very upset. Kurosai sat next to him and simply growled loudly and bared his fangs as well. "They'll kill you if they find out I'm here you know. Harboring a criminal is usually a pretty serious crime." Kaji said as he gritted his teeth. Then there was a knock on the door and Kaji's claws popped out on their own. He dropped down into an even more aggressive stance and his chakra began to flare up quite noticeably. "So you gonna turn me over to them?" He growled as he backed into a corner defensively. Kurosai stood in front of Kaji protectively growling and snarling as well.

Sennyo walked through the Land of Mist, almost laughing to himself. He always had a smile on his face, but he rarely if ever felt the need to smile. It was just something that he did. He was happy, he smiled. He was mad, he smiled, and his voice got excessively loud and cheery. He got sad, he smiled. Noticing a pattern? However, now was one of the few times he actually had cause to smile. According to the proctor, he had shown excellent skill and great strength of character. In truth, he was just trying to lessen his own punishment for breaking the rules in the way that he did, but he was not going to look a gift horse in the mouth. He just continued walking, getting looks from many a person who seemed to think that a child clad in rainbow was definitely something to stare at. Sennyo had gotten used to the staring, but he did not really care. Back at his home, Sennyo had gotten used to the staring, but it was a different kind of staring. It was a scared, almost hateful stare. So, if that was the predecessor than benign curiosity was easy to deal with. Sennyo walked along no path in particular. According to the proctor, they would not be signing up teams right away, so he would have to wait a couple days. The proctor had told him to enjoy his down-time, and he was sure that many people enjoyed a couple days freedom, but Sennyo was completely bored. He wanted his life to begin. His past was fractured and unsusre. He remembered pieces of it. The other pieces were filled in by Villagers who had told him that he had simply been normal until some lottery. They always mentioned the "Lottery" with relief. He even supposedly had a family, but they did not associate with him. Instead, Sennyo learned to work on his own. That's it! He could find some odd job for a couple of days. He would earn some extra ryo, and then he could start getting missions. That would be great, but where would he want to work that would hire someone like him. It was true that he could change his clothes, but he liked color way too much, so he decided that he would go for areas that would be in cooking. Sennyo had learned cooking very early in life, and he was certain that fast food joints would hire him if he proved that he was able to do the work. He walked along no specific path, as he was not in any hurry mostly due to the fact that he did not know where a majority of the Fast Food Joints were. He simply wandered, enjoying the beautiful day in Water Country but keeping his eyes open. He looked up, and he saw two boys. They seemed awfully distressed. He decided to be nice.
"Well, hi, how are you both doing today?" He said cheerily. He was not really sure how they would react to a horned rainbow elf looking child, but he had to say that he already had some interesting reactions so far today. So, this should be interesting one way or another.

Sorain stopped racking his brain for ideas long enough for him to notice the greeting from a voice that he had never heard before. Instinctively Sorain turned his head so that his eyes were away from the sound, but his ears were pointed directly from where the voice had come from. Being blind, Sorain had no real need to search with his eyes, the only thing that he could do was to increase his ability to hear the person to determine their location. Sorain opened his mouth to speak before quickly catching himself, what in the hell was this? No one from this village had ever spoken two words to them directly in over eleven years, who in the hell was this that seemed not to know who they were enough to know better than to speak with them? Sorain dwelled on that thought for a moment before realizing that neither did he. Truth be told he had no idea why it was that no one in this village seemed to care for them very much, which meant that he could not logically expect someone else to know this either.
Thankful for a pleasent change of pace Sorain stood to his feet and quickly leapt over to where he heard the voice come from. Unsure of the exact location Sorain spoke out loud hoping to get a response that would indicate where the voice originated, "Umm. Hi?" He said in a questioning tone. Neither Sorain nor Sai had ever had much social interaction other than with each other so in all honesty he was not exactly sure how this conversation should go. "Eh. Where doing fine I suppose" He said before folding his arms into his sleeves, something that was more of a nervous habit now that it had been when he was a child. Sorain breathed in through his noise and captured the scent of sweat which indicated that the person had been training sometime that day or possibly even the day before. Sorain's lips twisted inward as he thought of what else to say and rather or not he should simply wait for a reply.
