Dimas watched him jump up from her bed and looked at her with a wild fearful look in his eyes. "I am simply asking if you would like some company getting back to your room or if you would rather just stay here for the night. I am sure stranger ones than us show up in the halls at night." She tried not to laugh at his dark blush or his sudden fear. She thought they were going to be friends. It was not like she had asked him to have sex with her. She replayed what she had said wondering if she had suggested that.

"Well most people avoid me during the day...so they should do the same at night. I think I might be safer in the darkness than you beautiful bright glow. And I would not want to impose on you to stay at your place....so we can just say here and when it is light outside you should be more safe leaving." She got up from her bed slowly trying not to spook him again. "I can not have you sleeping on the floor...I would not sleep on it unless I absolutely had too. Look you can sleep this way with you head up here on my pillow and I can sleep with my head the other way using some of my clothes rolled up as a pillow. I mean if I had a second mattress I would have you sleep there." She smiled softly at him trying to keep them. "We are friends right? Just think of it like a slumber party."

Photinus frowned and closed his eyes, taking a moment more to put his thoughts in order. Without meaning to, probably, she had made a point. He had been here too long. He opened his eyes and found her standing. She looked like she might pounce him if he tried to leave, though that was probably just his imagination. It was the brand of predatory people get when trying to capture a loose bird. Or a firefly... Yes, probably his imagination.

She couldn't possibly understand how torn he was right now, nor by which notions. Nothing she could assume would be correct, not completely. "We've had a busy night, Dimas. I think I should just head home. Alone. We have a lot to think about..."

Dimas lowered her head so her thick hair fell forward over her face and her right hand moved up to hold the upper part of her left arm. "If that is what you will want to do then I can't stop you. I would say call me when you got to your room so I would know you made it safely...but they took my phone a long time ago. So I guess just be careful." She raised her head and tried to give a friendly smile though it looks a bit more like a ghost from a horror film with her red glow.

Photinus frowned as he watched Dimas drop her head. She really was determined and she seemed very upset to have him leave. If it was an act of melodrama on her part he couldn't tell and it probably wouldn't have mattered either way. Her reluctant attempt at a smile really was a horrific sight, probably because her heart was not in it, and he blanched, eyes slipping to their feet for a moment. But his thoughts didn't stray from the tangent they had been on. His face darkened again considering that she wanted him here for even longer. "Dimas. If it upsets you that much that I should leave now... I suppose I could stay until the morning. It would be safer to wait, right?" He glanced up at her and smiled shyly.

(...he can't say no to the ladies. especially Dimas. ;3 )

Dimas dark eyes lifted slowly up to look over his face. She was a bit surprised to hear him say that he would stay the night with her. "Well yes it would be safer to wait until morning to walk the halls that way neither of our glows will give us away. And...if you feel bad about sharing a bed we don't have to sleep. You and I can stay awake all night if you will feel more relaxed that way." Her half hearted smile started to curve into a more real one and it softened her harsh or more evil looking expressions. "I would love to hear more about you. Or I can tell you more about my parents and where I grew up?"

(Oh that little firefly can't help but be drawn to her glow. And she can't help but want to entice that Photinus to her)

"Yeah, even my fireflies won't do much if I run into trouble." Photinus grinned and nodded, though his burning cheeks didn't cool right away. Her words were often a little plainer and made him feel a little more awkward than he was used to. He was beginning to see this was just her nature and she meant nothing by it. But also, all the time he had spent reading over the years had poorly substituted actual experience in awkward situations. If he could just keep this in mind he could recover a little more quickly, at least.

"Well..." he began rubbed the back of his head. He looked up at her and took her hand gently in his and pulled her back toward the bed to sit. "I have to admit that I am better at listening than at talking about myself. I've been told I'm a good listener. I'm curious about you too... but we don't have to talk about anything that upsets us too much. I mean, if we're going to be up all night, we should try to have a good time, right?"

Dimas' dark eyes flicked over to the small glowing fireflies that fluttered around Photinus and then at the small jar of them tied at his belt. She had forgotten about them as they seemed to have quieted down to being happy along her bed until he had gotten up to leave, "Well they could try to help confuse anyone who might want to attack or capture you, and I am sure they could find someone and guide them to you if you got stuck." She said trying to give him a bit more confidence in his little friends. She wondered if they were so drawn to him because he was one of them or if they thought he was their mates. She was still a bit unsure about the different types of fireflies.

She could not help but be a bit shocked as he took her hand and was willingly touching her. So she allowed him to guide her back to her bed. She shifted her head so her hair would fall over her face. She had seen her father lead her mother to bed so gently a few times. "I normally don't talk about myself either. Most people always ask me about my parents. And I don't mind talking about them. They are far more interesting than their hydrophobic daughter." She said with a laugh, "But your right, if we are going to be up all night we should have some fun. I guess if we really want to take turns at the talking and listening we can ask questions and each of us answer them one at a time." She suggested lifting her free hand to push her hair back. "But I will go first either way. You can ask me anything."

She set her hand down on her thigh and waited. This was going to be her first slumber party in a very long time. More so with the fact that they were not going to sleep.

“True,” he said thoughtfully as he sat down and looked first at their hands then at the empty jar at his hip, “they could be rather distracting to people who aren’t used to seeing them.” He looked up at the rafters to locate each one and could count most, those whom were not hiding outright. He glanced back at Dimas with a faint grin. “You think they could be trained like Lassie to do something like that?” He wondered if it was really possible.

“Well, we could go back and forth like that if you want. I’d rather not if it’s uncomfortable for you to talk about the past. We could talk about our lives now, maybe things we hope to happen in the future.” Did he have any plans? His prospects in life had been so bleak before his transformation. Now he had no future outside the walls of this asylum. Or did he? What if they miraculously made it out one day? Besides their obvious hang-ups, what could they hope for in their new bodies and states of mind? How different would it be to grow into their new bodies from how it would have been with normal bodies? Would they go through similar changes, or vastly different ones? He somehow had found himself staring deeply into the far facing wall. He turned back to Dimas, wondering what she thought about it. Or did she think about it? Maybe she was too afraid, or in despair; maybe she didn’t care?

Dimas gave a nod, "Yes I am sure you could train them to do lots of things. More so if you have a good connection to them. Like if you could talk to them or you all can understand each other. There are countless things you could do." She followed his eyes up and looked at the little glowing things up in her ceiling. "I can see how they could be distracting though."

She looked back down to him, "Well we can talk about what ever you would like too. I mean I guess we don't have to talk about the past if neither of us are really ready to talk about the past just yet." Though she had to admit, she knew she had a past but she was not sure she had a future at least not any more. She had never really thought about the future before and now all she could think of was that unless she learned to breath water and the only real future she could even possibly have was here at the asylum. She saw his distant look and she did not want to interrupt bit now she was a bit distracted herself. Though she did give a laugh, "I don't think there is much of a future here...unless I can breath water." she might as well just say what was on her mind, maybe they could talk about that and he would be less worried about sleeping over. And they would not have to just sit in silence.

"Sometimes I lay awake at night and watch them glowing like little stars up there." That's usually how I fall asleep, he realized suddenly. They're the only thing that distracts me enough to relax. Well... his eyes shifted slightly back to Dimas, maybe not the only thing. Not anymore.

He sighed and tried to wrack his brain for a question to ask her. So far he had waxed philosophical and blurted out half of what he was thinking to her. The other half was either too confusing, upsetting, or embarrassing, and had ended in a dip of his blond head and darker (and more frequent!) blushing than he remembered since he had been here. Every effect she had on him in just this short time, only a couple of hours, was so alien to him!

"Well..." he ventured, "if the past is too painful, and the future seems too bleak -- and I do think that we can work through your fears, we just have to trust we can -- then that only leaves the present. You don't know many people yet, but what do you think of your stay so far? Can you even remember a time or a place like this? Do you miss your family, or the kids you used to play with in the sand?" A hesitation, and he bit his lower lip, "How do you fall asleep at night?"

Dimas could not deny that she liked watching her new friend blush. She felt very comfortable with him in her room siting on her bed with her. And the longer he seemed to stay the more relaxed and comfortable things became to her. He found herself smiling more with him, that and herself being a bit more bold.

Why did she feel as if she glowed brighter when he said we can work threw he fears. She was so glad he was willing to work and help her out. She was a bit surprised at his thoughtful words. "You are wise beyond your years Photinus." she said and gave him a happy little smile. "Well I am sure the future is not as bleak as I am making it right now." At least yours won't be, she added to herself. "But yes I don't know many people here at all. I guess my stay is alright. It is kind of like one of those horror or thriller video games. You know the ones that are creepy and you try not to let the feeling follow you after the game?" She looked dow at the bed, "Oh this one stays even when turn off the game. I miss my parents...but not my friends. Is that wrong of me?" She looked up at him and gave a sad little laugh. "Well I do miss the children. They were so cute." She looked back up at the fireflies and her broad shoulders gave a shrug. "I don't have something as nice as fake stars to sleep too. I normally stare at my photo even when it dark in here and I can't see it. I try to hear the ocean waves and the sound of them rushing a shore. I had the hardest time sleeping at first when I could not hear them." She lowered her gaze back to him, "It was too quiet as if I was the only thing left i the world."

Photinus blinked in mild surprise. "Wise?" After a moment of thought he shook his head in a slow, negative fashion. "No, I don't think I am..." He glanced back at her and sighed softly. "If I was, I'd follow my own advice... It's easy enough to say this when I'm with a friend but when I'm alone, it's a different story."

As Dimas described what it was like here to him, he nodded slowly in understanding. "You're right, it is a little like that." I guess if I played them, I would be one of those guys who jumps at every little noise and shadow... Perhaps he was not being very kind to himself, but he felt so afraid most of the time.

"You don't miss your friends?" Yes, it seemed a little strange, unless they had been cruel to her. Then it was completely understandable, wasn't it? "I suppose if they weren't very good friends, then it makes sense. Did they make fun of your fear of the water?"

He followed her glance up at his little winged friends then glanced back at the wall and the photo pinned there. Waves... He had an idea suddenly and looked at her with wider eyes. "Have you ever tried to make the sound of the waves with your hand? Like this?" He cupped his hands next to his ear to show her. "If you do it right, it kind of sounds like water in the distance. A boy I used to live with showed me once but I'm not very good at it."

Dimas looked down looking a bit embraced her colors shifting to a orangish color. "No...I don't really miss them. And no they did not know. It was hard but I never told anyone about my fear of water. Even my parents." she sighed, "I would disapoint them more than I could ever make up to them. That is why I joined this project." She looked down at her a pink tendril that was laying over one of her breasts.

She looked back up at him when he spoke again and blushed, "Oh wow no. I did not know that made a wave sound...like a sea shell right?" She smiled at him warmly like he was her hero and moved her hair back to cup her hands around her ear and her dark eyes lit up. "Photinus your amazing!" she said and lept forward to kiss his cheek and wrap her arms around him. "It does sound like water a ways off." she giggled and rested her head against his for a moment. before slowly letting go.

Perhaps the reason she did not miss them was they didn't really know her. In just one night, she had told him things that she had not told people she had once considered 'friend,' people she might have known for many years. This place was a unique place and theirs was a unique situation, but already she trusted him that much. Perhaps she would expect him to share his own past. There were things he didn't want to tell anybody and he certainly didn't want to burden this sweet girl with it. Let everyone think he was so timid for no special reason. The people who didn't matter would hate him for his weakness, and the people who did would sympathize with whatever he was going through and it would be enough. He glanced up at Dimas and realized they had a similar sentiment there. They didn't want to upset people with their problems. He found himself smiling at her gently; he understood enough.

"Yes, like a seashell!" Well, he had heard it was like that. But he was one of those people that had never seen a conch except on TV. Judging by her reaction, it was close enough. He was smiling happily when she caught him in a surprise embrace. Girls did not kiss him. She was so forward and affectionate that his face couldn't help but match her lights in hue when she started to pull away. He returned the hug, tentatively, only barely touching her back with his glowing fingertips. They were glowing quite brightly, and though he was flustered, he was also pleased to help. He could get used to this, surely. "You're welcome, Dimas."
