I went off anime quite a long while ago (awhile ago enough for pokemon/digimon to still be popular if that helps) but I still like Cowboy Bebop (the mushrooms one being my fav as it was the first one I watched) and Captain Herlock. Though I find the storyline a bit difficult as they don't seem to have numbered the series' just called them different names so I have no idea whether I'm watching it in the right order.

I enjoy the series a lot though. Even though all the women look identical. I ended up watching after I saw Galaxy Express 999 which isn't actually to do with Captain Herlock directly but he turns up in it. The moral issues with the androids and the whole "graveyard" on Pluto (I think it's Pluto) is excellent. Lots of stuff is excellent about it. But mostly it's just a very comfortable anime to watch. Maybe that's why I like it. I went off anime because I was sick of either a) feeling like I'd missed a whole lifestory even when I was watching from the beginning and b) having characters (sometimes characters half my age) who were absolutely fantastic at everything they did as well as having whatever amazing powers they needed to make the show good. Pretty puny points... but just so I don't sound like I went off anime because it didn't have Pikachu in it.

I also like Vampire Princess Miyu though I have only got the first five or so episodes so maybe it turns terrible later on... I shall have to find them and find out.

This one friend of mine LOVES Vampire Princess Miyu. She said the whole series was great.

Yeah... some animes honestly do suck. Especially the one with Mary Sues. >>;

I've never heard of Captain Herlock, though. I'll keep my eyes open for it.

The one with the Mushrooms really is great, though. I loved it when Jet was talking to his Bonsia Trees... xd

I notice Toonami Jetstream is now online & you could see episodes of series we aren't getting in the US yet, even!

I hate Fruitsbasket so much... I don't find it funny, just boring. My friends have been trying to convert me for WAY too long.

It was directed by Akitaro Daichi, who also did Jubei-chan and Tsukikage Ran, both of which I liked. So I picked up Fruitsbasket vol. 1 thinking I'd like it, but it was just too boring. Or maybe it's just that I can't stomach stuff that's blatantly shojo. I find Fushigi Yugi to be rather boring as well.

Paranoia Agent's ending is so cool though. When you find out who really attacked her... and what Little Slugger really is. All the black goop enveloping the city was kind of just plain odd... but the actual story line is so cool.

It was an interesting show, for certain. There were a few episodes in the towards the end I didn't much care for because it was getting too unreal (which I gather is supposed to reflect the increasing hysteria of everyone), but overall I think it was a good show.

Captain Harlock... wow, that's ancient. He was a space pirate or something, no? For some reason I always link him with that show about a train that flies around in space. Which I'm guessing was Galaxy Express 999. I don't think I've ever even seen either show. A train flying in space?! That's right up there with a WWII-era battleship being converted into a starship (i.e. Space Battleship Yamato).

Never seen Vampire Princess Miyu the TV series, though I did own the earlier 4-episode OAV series on VHS at one point. It was pretty good, from what I remember. My favorite was probably the doll one... episode 2, I think.

Yes Galaxy Empress is the train that flies through space. The tickets are something equivalent to a £1000000 but at the end you get your body converted into an everlasting android body. Or rather - I think - it's like the Cybermen where your brain gets moved cos your body get put under the ice in Pluto. At least that is mostly what the movie is about. It's very good though. And yes... quite old. But I only came to them all a couple of years ago on the internet.

Is the puppet Miyu one got this boy taken by this demon who wants to turn him into a marionette? (Whilst Miyu only wants to eat him...) He'll live forever and look perfect forever. It's good. I just love all the demons in that show...

Another one - and I haven't watched this one but I would like to find out more about it if anyone's seen it - is Loki Ragnarok (mythical detective). Anyone seen it? I've seen the first episode, I think, with a very creepy doll in it.

I've heard of Loki Ragnorak... but only heard of it.

Anyone read any of the Battle Angel Alita mangas? God... extremely depressing and VERY gory. Some of it is really good, some of it is just kind of dumb.

My favorite manga is Immortal Rain. Seriously, the best one I've ever read. Ever.

One Piece is a good manga, too, if you like that sort of stuff. 4Kids ruined it! Although they didn't ruin Naruto... just made it only semi-dumb.

I saw the Battle Angel Alita film...stealing spines, and things. How many times does her love interest die, anyway?
On top of that, it's the same person. eek He dies, gets brought back to life, then gets killed again. He might even die more times than that, I can't remember.
Anyway, I don't really like depressing animes. I gave up on Gungrave after the point where all his friends die in, what, two episodes? And I stopped watching FMA because VLC wouldn't play it, due to file corruption. I didn't want to skip any episodes. That, and it switches from happy to absolute misery all the time.
Anyway, I recently realised that I haven't watched any anime in ages, I have the disc space for a few complete seasons, but I don't know what to get, and forgot what episode of Naruto I'm on. sweatdrop
I need more stuff to do.

Why? Because they use the highly inferior Windows Media Format!
I hate Microsoft. I really do.
Anyway, that seals off a load of anime. Argh. What's great is I exterminated WMP recently, I need to update Flash, I use the latest Firefox AND I use Mac OS 10.3.9, so I don't meet any of the required specifications. sweatdrop

Youtube has a lot of anime episodes on it...

You know, there's a reason why 'Microsoft Works' is considered the best oxymoron by MANY people.

Yes, that sounds exactly like the episode I'm thinking of. Did you watch the Miyu OAV series, or did they redo that story for the TV series?

Galaxy Express 999 sounds more interesting than I gave it credit for. Never heard of Loki Ragnarok. I'm about two years behind when it comes to anime, ever since I stopped picking up single DVDs and started waiting for complete sets (which are usually cheaper).

I liked the Battle Angel Alita movie. It was a bit bleak, but I enjoyed it.

I'm trying to think of the most depressing anime I've seen. Probably Graveyard of the Fireflies. To say that movie was something of a downer would be a complete understatement.

Yes, Graveyard of the Fireflies is a heartbreaker. You'll feel like someone ripped your heart out with a rusty fork after watching that one, it's so painfully sad--and yet it is extremely beautiful at the same time, which probably just adds to the sadness you feel watching what happens to those children.
I actually have a tin of that candy here at home; at least the tin looks the same & is from Japan. I haven't touched it yet. It makes me think of the little sister.... crying

I really want to see Graveyard of Fireflies ever since I heard of it. But I still haven't gotten a chance to watch it! *sigh*

Did anyone like Princess Mononoke? I thought it was boring but my friends loved it. The only cool part was the Forest God in animal form... with all the antlers. ^^
