Geez, I guess I was taken back to good ol rpm for a sec there. But yeah. Anyways, I dont think we will have something like time force, I blame the times as you have all seen, people want children to be more and more stupid. I miss the 90's! ew i cant believe It has come to that.

Was watching lightspeed on netflix and I got to say, the plot makes more sense as I watch more modern ranger shows. I mean, they selected their theme in this case military, and stuck with it by showing them doing drills and actually presenting the rangers actually working as a rescue service force. In these new rangers I think the wholle theme is all over the place. While they do train in some what samurai manners I still need to oh mithem a bit more inmerse in the culture that they are presenting. In shikenger its understandable they presented so freely, they are the culture that the rangers are representing, but in here we dont really know much about origami or the art itself that is the writting of the symbols. I know it is easier for people when things are different, but I just thinks this series really had to be set in japan or at least have the red ranger be japanese. It would have been veryt trippi to have a sentai ranger casted as a power ranger...

It's called Saban watering down the whole "Samurai" idea into something that American kids would believe samurai are. Wow, what a way to look down on Japan, Saban.

I agree with the idea of having a Japanese actor play the Red Ranger this season. Hell, I would have actually bought the idea that he was gonna train them to be REAL samurai, and not the hack jobs the current red ranger is doing.

I'm sorry, but even Disney put out better when they acquired Power Rangers. Hell, I will even say I like RPM over Samurai any day! Saban forgot what made PR good! I will refer back to my favorite, Time Force. MY GOD I loved that show! I would say that was my overall favorite season. But look at Samurai, it's not even believable! I don't know who Saban got to write this season or even do the translations (if there even was any), but holy crap it's just garbage!

I mean really Saban, What the Hell?!

> Americanization. Unless its geared towards an older or specific audience, it rarely works out.

> Interesting concept. A shame they didn't go for it. How is Saban doing it again? I believe claiming they're decedents from Samurai? Come to think of it, wouldn't that mean they all have Japanese heritage? There's only been so many foreigners who have been given that title.

> Yes, it seems Disney did better on a few of its productions and yes it seems Saban has lost touch with its fans. Time Force has by far become my favorite PR season with the first half of RPM right behind it due to its more mature themes.
I wouldn't say Saban doesn't translate. Clearly they do. But removing cultural elements out of a show where they're such a prevalent theme is to much. Uniqueness, sure but do it right. You might as well scratch everything and make yourself an entire new series.

See, I am a stickler for those old 60's and 70's Samurai movies that were so badly dubbed but were SO bloody AMAZING! I think that pretty much showed me what REAL Samurai were. Though anime like Rurouni Kenshin and Samurai Scroll were great too. Also I loved Sengoku Basara. But that's off topic. I know what Samurai are, and Power Rangers Samurai are not Samurai. Sorry Saban.

Yeah....the whole idea of American teenagers being decedents of Samurai.....yeah I can totally buy that! *insert sarcastic laugh here* Really? Saban really expects us to buy that back story? Might as well make one of them an alien or something! Ugh....at the very least I would have gotten being an a*****e Japanese Red Ranger like Takeru was. He pretty much whipped the rest of the Shinkengers into a real Samurai force. What's the American Red Ranger doing? Pretty much messing up too!

Okay, my big complaint with Disney was that I thought they might mess up Power Rangers. But really, they didn't do half bad. Not that there were some screw ups (maybe Omega Ranger being a ball of light?) but on that note, SPD was one of my favorite seasons too! Why? Because it was more of a mature storyline! Time Force, SPD, and Jungle Fury were amazing series because they dealt with mature stories. I would have to say the one season I refused to watch because of the utter lack of a good story was Operation Overdrive. That series was just awful! I don't why they took such a great series like Bokenger and turned it into Operation Overdrive.

And on the subject of Power Rangers writing something into a series that wasn't in the Sentai was Lightspeed Rescue's Titanium Ranger! It showed that an American made Ranger actually works! Now why can't they just make something that? Why can't Saban take an original idea and make a series from it? Who says you need a Sentai to go from? Let's see Saban make something completely from scratch and see where it goes! There are THOUSANDS of story lines that the writers could come up with!

Funny. I've been studying the Japanese culture for several years and only now am I starting grasp of what they were. Though I wouldn't base what you learn on those poorly dubbed 60's movies or anime. They usually paint a bad or otherwise poor picture of what something is. I'm sure even Shinkenger probably didn't closely follow what Samurai actually are/were.

To Saban's defense, it's not that unreasonable, but is somewhat of a stretch if non of their relatives are shown to be off Japanese decent.
Oh? How did Jayden act then?

I agree. It shows that even mature elements like death or whatever can be well received by American audiences. Not only by the fans, but by the writers and producers as well. It gives them more room to work with.

I liked the Titanium Ranger too. It was a nice touch by Saban's part, though I've heard that it rumors that it was based off a character that was set to appear in GoggleV but never did. As an amateur creative writer myself, I can say that nothing is hundred percent original. On the same token however, that's not stopping a company from Saban to gather up ideas and make their own thing based on what they know. For all we know, it could well received overseas.
PostPosted: Sat Dec 24, 2011 1:48 pm

Well, take a look at shows like Kamen Rider Dragon Knight and Power Rangers SPD. Both were brought over to Japan and dubbed into Japanese for the fans over there, and both from what I heard were very were received by both Sentai and Rider fans. So it's not entirely impossible for the fans to be happy on either shore.

My whole argument is that Saban just really dropped the ball this year, and granted Samurai has it's fans in the younger audiences, but for die hard fans PR over here who grew up with the series, it's a let down.

I fear very much for the idea of Saban possibly skipping Goseiger and going right to making a PR adaption of Gokaiger. Gokaiger has won me over time and time again, even in the slow filler episodes, I still love it! (then again, could Saban make a PR adaption of Goseiger any worse than the Sentai was?) The characters, their back stories, their powers, their personalities, and the fact that they are pirates I could see Saban just massacring the idea. And what if they didn't include characters like Aka Red and Basco? Ugh....makes me sick just thinking about it. And what about being able to show the Sentai teams pre-MMPR? How would Saban handle that? It scares me guys! crying

Exactly.
However I feel like I'm in the minority since there's a lot of diehard Kamen Rider fans out there that hate Dragon Knight. From what I've gathered its for the same reasons we've already discussed however I feel the creators/producers translated it the right way. Kept what needed to be kept and dropped what American audiences wouldn't get, like the rider war and reasons behind it. However instead of just leaving a whole there, they gave a believable alternative.

Diehard and Sentai fans a like. Me being the latter of the two.

They probably wont as they've already announced Mega Force for next year. gonk Yes, I agree. Gokaiger would indeed be a hard Sentai to adapt if not nearly impossible to do. They might could explain that said pre-MMPR rangers come from alternative universes or be teams that took place inbetween other PR series. The pirate approach could work well, but again would be hard to do.
I'm sure they'll have a Basco of some kind, but I'm pretty sure Aka Red wont make an appearance.

I'm for one more worried about Kamen Rider myself. But that's for another thread. gonk

The other thing that bugs the hell out of me is that Samurai didn't have someone working on the staff that might have made the series a little better. And that is music guru Ron Wasserman.

Had Ron Wasserman produced the music for this series, instead of the theme song being a rip off of the original MMPR theme song, I think this series really would have been a little better. Heck, I could see him throwing in a little Japanese flute music at the beginning and then going into this hard rock song for the theme, but no. They had to take his original MMPR theme, hand it to someone else, and then it came out terrible.

Granted I know other seasons didn't have Ron Wasserman do the music, but you can hear they took ques from his theme songs and still made great theme songs. It makes me wonder if Saban really has the knack for making Power Rangers great anymore. Maybe they should have passed it to someone like the Wang brothers who did Dragon Knight. At least in my opinion, we might have gotten something closer to Shinkenger or maybe something even better!

Well Saban's name for Goseiger last time I checked was Mega Force. God knows what they'll do with Gokaiger. But that's just me and NightWolf. gonk

Also, try not to double post, but to answer your question, you mean what they'll do with Fourze? I don't know anything other then they've secured the rights to "Power Rider."

> Yeah. That would have been awesome. A series deserves its own theme. While it's fine to have a remix of an old song, you can't just produce what's little more then a carbon copy.
