That scoundrel.... Did he have no heart? Sure she had to admit that because of Mihira, they were forced to enter Sentria. However, they didn't brought an army in until the rescue group were beaten by that witch Razevi. Furthermore, they were doing so well from not being spotted by the Sentrians until Mordachean army decided to join in and battle them. If it wasn't for those Mordache informing the Sentria about that event, they wouldn't be in the war.

Just when the paladin was about to protest Rogvald, she heard a shout from a very familiar person. Looking up, she was shocked to hear Vaida informing Rogvald and demanded to have Mihira's punishment. The paladin understood well that the Wyvern Lord was trying to protect Mihira. After all, the poor girl was shaking up and was on the verge of tears. But if Vaida took the blame, what would happen to her? She couldn't let Vaida fall drastically.

But before she could defend Vaida, another shot came. This time, it was from Nils. Another shocking news surprised the paladin when she listened to Nils' plead. Rath is not going to like this... The paladin thought after she heard his resignation. Without Vaida, it could be difficult for her to find a replacement in this terrible event. As for Nils, well, she had to get his letter of resignation later once the trial was finished.

It was then that she heard Rogvald's verdict to both Nils and Vaida. She was sad to hear that the bard was banished from Eyris. However, the verdict that Vaida received surprised the paladin.

"Death?!" Isadora shouted in bewildered. It was bad enough that the foul goat was trying to disband her guild. But to have one of her members be put to death sentence had went over the line. She had to change Rogvald's mind about this, but she had to do it in a different approach. She then turned to Rogvald and talked to him in a low but pleasing tone. "I understand very well that Vaida is a criminal of war, but don't you think the death sentence is a bit too harsh? Sure she has a quick demeanor and tough attitude, but she has done an excellent performance in the Guard. She has helped shaping the Guards to what they are now. And let's not forget, if it wasn't for Vaida, King James would not be here at this moment."

Isadora wasn't sure if it would change Rogvald's mind or not. However, she hoped that her plead would help soften her sentence. If not, then what a terrible captain she was today. How could she protect her people and the law at the same time?

It was that this moment that the adviser called forth Rath. Terrible feeling sunk down in her gut as her color paled little. The paladin looked up just to see Rath entered the room, bounded with ropes. The Dame Knight frown in pity and ashamed. If Rath knew what was going on and how much burden she was struggling right now, she hoped that the nomad would forgive her for what had happened.

When the nomad came to the stand, she send him an apologetic look. If she was able to speak, she wanted to apologize to him for failing her job to protect those within the guild and in Learania. Isadora listened as Rogvald read Rath's case of why he was summoned. The Dame Knight waited to listen to Rath's plead. Somehow, deep in her heart, she prayed that Rath would speak the truth, informing the terrible adviser about what happened to Nino. Please Rath, tell him you didn't kill her. Don't you see how much suffer the guild and the Watch are facing... Isadora thought pitied.

However, her heart sank when she heard his plead. The nomad was going to take the punishment. He refused to tell them what happened to Nino. Tears began to fill in her eyes as she listened to him. He understood their pain. He understood their suffering. And yet, he was trying to make a martyr onto himself to save them. If only he told them what happened beforehand. If only he had warned them before this terrible situation.

"Oh, Rath..." Isadora muttered softly. Although the paladin was unsure whether she could trust him or not, in her heart, she felt that she had forgiven him.

Lend me your ear!
...Heed my words.
ogvald

xxxxx...That man. He had a way of really ticking Rogvald off. Still, in front of everyone, that man would still not talk! Unbelievable. Well, then there was nothing else Rogvald could do. "You silence is poison to the hopes of these people. I have no choice but to sentence you to death!" He banged his gabble. "Rath and Vaida will be taken to the castle, where they will await their execution at the end of this month. The others arrested will be brought to the Watch house for a few days, unable to have visitors, and await the proper transportation to the grand prison. This concludes the trial! Guards, please help those who will be leaving out the door and begin transporting the criminals!" He banged the gabble one final time.

xxxxxThe guards went to work and soon the citizens had left the manor. Rogvald did not waste time talking to Lady Isadora. He hastily went to make sure the guards were doing their tasks properly. It didn't take too long for the prisoners to be on their way. Rogvald hobbled to the door of the manor and met Amelia on the way. "Ah, Lady Amelia. Thaaank you for your... kind hospitality." He grinned deviously at her, then left the manor. His work there was done.

I advise you to listen. Not doing so could prove... deadly.

"You can't blame yourself. Blaming yourself and falling into depression, it won't change anything.
You have to look forward. Remember what you have here now.
Just think; if you hadn't come here, you wouldn't have met anyone here from
Elibe or anywhere else!"

{Amelia}
Amelia couldn't help but feel the rage begin to boil deep in her stomach. For these crimes to be brought up now, some of them years after they had occurred... it made her sick. Not to mention that there were forces at work he simply didn't understand, or even seem to try to attempt to understand. Asami's influence had very well been mind control, Mihira had only been attempting to locate a stolen child...!

The General looked helplessly over to Rei, looking quite pale. He was to be banished. In wartime. She gestured quietly to Fefga's living room. Fefga's manor isn't within Eyris grounds, like he said. We'll keep the guild members together somehow. As for Lance and Roy and Blossom and Derrin... and Vaida and Rath... I just... we have to do something. We can't let them fall like this.

Amelia barely managed to hide the shiver that rolled down her spine as Rogvald addressed her. "Ye...Y-Yes. You're... you're welcome," she managed hesitantly, offering a nervous smile in return. Even though you sort of commandeered my home without my consent. Amelia rested a hand against her eyes as he left, leaving the home in silence.

We have to fix this.

User ImageLyre glared at Rogvald's retreating form.

This. Was. Ludicrous.

She linked her arm with Amelia's, scowling.
"Well, at least it's true that this manor isn't on Eyris grounds. That's something, right?"

She clapped her hands together.

"Time to do some clean up... the land is only as strong as its king, as they say, and I've got a bone to pick with this puppet they stuck a crown on..."

That last part she sort of mumbled out, trailing off. The whole thing left a sour taste in her mouth, and that was that.

He should have gone to see Alihi while he was able. ...He'd never get the chance, now. "This isn't right..." he said softly to himself. "But there's... there's nothing we can..."

From his pack, he pulled out some of the nomad grass he had and stared down at it. He wasn't sure even that could make him feel any better. But at least it would help. He didn't know what he had was illegal, so he wasn't expecting anybody to mind. "..." He raised the drugs, ready to use them once more.

Clara was appalled that Rogvald ignored her. She stayed standing, glaring at the man as he handed down the rest of the sentences. she didn't care that she looked like an idiot. She had lost all sense of herself, yet she stayed calm. Her eyes follow the adviser as he left. After she was sure he was long gone, she turned around.

"THAT HEARTLESS b*****d!" She yelled right before she kicked the chair she had sat on. She was ignoring any pain that had come from kicking the chair. The tears had come back again. "He sent Derrin to jail and I couldn't stop him!" She fell to her knees, her face in her hands. "What kind of girlfriend am I!?"

"..."

Ghis had been wondering at what point Rogvald would get around to the Sentria events. After all, wasn't Sentria's pretense at war because of the mission to go save that one kid Charice had talked about? He found it rather surprising that this wyvern-riding girl was the only one found guilty of anything. Had the others truly been completely innocent? He, for one, doubted anyone else would get off scot-free...

And then... an atom bomb.

He knew about Tura.

Ghis had done nothing wrong with Asami. He'd done nothing wrong, hell, any other time he could think of--beyond the usual drinking, of course. But Tura... that one man knew full well of the rumors he'd spread, taking advantage of the Tura incident the way he had. And THAT was trouble. He'd already said the trials were over "for today". And at last, it was the General's turn to distrust this new government. Sure, he'd felt Rath was an aloof loner, but he'd been surprisingly lenient with the lot of them. Now...? Who knew?

--------
Later...
--------

"Captain, you're not suggesting I leave, are you?"

"He knew things, Charice--lotsa things. Everythin' 'bout this land from years back tae now. Ye were in Sentria. 'e already sentenced th' Commander o' th' Guard tae death. Trus' me--ye'll be next!"

"What!? O-oh my... b-but I can't leave. My family remains here. I can't just abandon them. Can I?"

"...Well, it's yer choice. Take yer chances wi' a man out fer blood, or take yer chances a-runnin' fer it. Ye got the edge on most--ye can fly. Ah'd think yer folks'd forgive ye for it. Ah'll say nae more."

--------

Last he'd checked, Charice was still wringing her hair in her hands. The fool. What would fearing for her parents get her? A swift capture and a sticky end. But, he'd tried. At least she wouldn't be caught unawares. But she'd been moaning something about "The man in the cow suit". Not in the manner that suggested he rocked her world.

Fire Dragon

User ImageAs soon as Rei mentioned Nils’ name, FD became anxious. He glued his eyes to the shota-Druid, uncertain of how the boy would proceed with his case. Naturally, FD was worried for what might become of his husband (especially after what had happened to their nephew), but the Druid’s words were true. And FD wouldn’t ask Rei to cover the truth of the matter, particularly if this could help more people in the long run. Still, the possibility for FD to be very angry with Rei if he handled this poorly was there. It dissipated when Nils, himself, spoke out to support Rei, however.

This was the right thing to do. Both his husband and their Druid-friend were going about this in the best way possible, in a way. Although the ‘resignation from crew’ part caught him by surprise. It did open up a lot of options for the couple in a way, though, FD thought. If things got truly sour enough in Learania, he and Nils could easily enough just leave the country, he mused. It certainly wouldn’t be the first time a dragon abandoned his habitat out of necessity. Of course, at the moment they still had friends and family in the country to worry about. Particularly between Ninian still being missing and Roy now being in “Grand Prison.” But the possibility was technically on the table.

His attention back on new developments in the trial, FD was appaled that Rogvald was such a monster towards Mihara. That nice girl who’d asked him not to use his Flametongue at the very village this sack of s**t “judge” was from for the sake of a young Pegasus Knight? She seemed so selfless. And to sentence Rath and Vaida to DEATH? That ungrateful a*****e was condemning the very woman who had brought him to Eyris in the first place, who had ensured the safety of his precious, bratty King James! Rogvald was a heinous villain, to be sure! Even if he’d get no attention from someone so heartless, FD gave the old man the most seething glare as he left the Manor.

The dragon tried to chill out. His blood felt as fiery as his Flametongue at the moment. But there were issues to be addressed now – focus on those rather than that sack-of-s**t Rogvald. That would help.

Nils. Banished from Eyris. Banished from their home on the edge of the city nearest the Manor – not even that far away. Well, if Nils wasn’t going home, neither was FD. And so he told Nils this.

“But Hikaru, there’s no reason for you not to return home. I’m the one who was banished, not you!” was the Bard’s reaction.

“Kaoru, I have nothing to return to if you aren’t going to be there! My home is being with you.” FD answered.

“Hikaru…" FD knew his husband was really glad he was there, regardless of the protests. Besides, with the war still going on, there was absolutely no way FD was about to let Nils remain exiled without at least his husband to defend him.

(permission to use Nils for a little dialogue was obtained, btw)

Oujay couldn't believe it. All of this was unbelievable. Anger and pain grew inside the boy as he just sat there watching...watching and not being able to do anything about it. It was already terrible that this was happening, but in the middle of a war too. What could the advisor possibly be thinking? The mercenary doubted anyone had the answer. It took all his strength and will power to restrain himself from doing anything stupid.

He sat in his seat as the civilians and the advisor left fefga's manor. The anger that was slowly building up inside of him was starting to lower. Eventually he just let out a small sigh as his hands finally relaxed from him clenching his fists the whole time. His gaze traveled the room, looking the other people that were still there. It seems as a sense of demoralization was filling the room. They couldn't really help it, their former captain was going to get executed by the end of the months and half of the guild was basically gone. Eventually he stood up and walked out of the room and into the living room where some of the other guild members were.

Person after person after person after person.

War crimes.

Possession.

Exile.

Imprisonment.

Gale may have been new to the land, but he was not new to wars. To crimes. Bern was the worst as far as that went. If you weren't from Bern originally, you were viewed with the ultimate scrutiny. Gale had worked hard, coming from Ilia, to prove his worth. To prove his loyalty to his country, and to be allowed to fight for it. All these people who were being put on trial now had done nothing other than that. The stories were all the same. "Fighting for my country." He noted familiar faces, at least from the legends - Vaida, Roy, Rath, Rei - all "heroes" from his own world. But here, they were being made out as villains. Something did not seem right here. Gale's mind sifted through memories, recalling the stories of his previous land, of those very people who were now being accused. And then a familiar voice rang out.

"This is not justice! This is cruelty!"

Blossom. Gale had never known the girl to be anything but kind. She was a mercenary, though, and mercenaries being put on trial was a rare occurrence (as it was typically the hirer who held all responsibility for issuing the job) but still happened. But Gale cared about this one. Not because she was the daughter of a friend of his, or because she was a friend herself, but because she seemed so absolutely stricken, anguished, furious.

"I hope your 'justice' eats you alive, you scumbag."

And then she was escorted from the room. Sure the 'advisor' had a few words to say to her, simply mocking her, and it took every fiber of Gale's being to not stand up and say something about it. It wouldn't have done any good. The girl had a point. This was not justice. This was not governed by reason nor humanity. This was governed by a more sinister force.

Yes.

Something was definitely rotten in the state of Eyris. And it reeked suspiciously of 'old man'.

Without a word, Gale rose from his seat and quietly exited the building. No one would think anything of it. No one knew him.

Yet.

After getting Ephraim to healers, Zeiss found himself near a trial, and things there weren't the best. People being tried, sent to jail, or being exiled. The worst was the two people that were sentenced to death row...Vaida, a former member of the Bern army from years before Zeiss, and Rath, a Sacaean nomad. This old fart wasn't going to be getting anywhere with this so called "justice."

Someone should teach this fool a lesson. Who knows? Others certainly have resentment to this fool.

The only two from the group he had know outside of Rath and Vaida was Lord Roy, and the Druid Rei. Even his friends were being sentenced with crimes. This is not the kind of way to create a stable country.

Though someone getting up near him caught his attention. The face was familiar, and it should have been. The person was someone that had saved him, and even loved his sister. How long has Gale been here?

Rising from his seat as well, he went after Gale. He may get some answers to what is going on here, and besides? What better time to catch up with someone who was ordered to kill the army you were in, and then never showed up?

Amelia felt herself relax as Lyre linked her arm with hers. Lyre was a good friend. A bit biting sometimes, but she was a good friend. Amelia found herself smiling a little, looking over at the people still left in the manor. "That's right. And anyone who's been banished unfairly from Eyris, you're more than welcome to stay here. The guild has to stick together." Amelia smiled in a way she hoped was comforting. "And if any of you need me to get to your homes to get you anything for now, until you can go back, I'd be more than welcome... to..."

She trailed off, watching Abel remove the drugs from his bag. "Abel? Uh, you do realize that stuff's illegal," she told him, eyebrows disappearing under her bangs. "And I kind of have an infant in this house. Either put it back in your bag and don't take it out or get rid of it. And I'm not asking." She gave him a stern look before nudging Lyre in the side and moving towards the chairs that had been set up before his makeshift podium, beginning to pick one up to put it back in its proper place in the kitchen. "Mind helping me with this, you guys?"

"It's addictive," Amelia told Abel with a flat look on her face as she took the chair to the kitchen, returning and putting a hand on his shoulder. "Besides, I meant it when I said it's illegal. You're lucky you didn't take that out while you were on trial or Rogvald would've sentenced you for having illegal substances on hand." Amelia frowned faintly, then ruffled Abel's hair. Nevermind the fact that they were probably about equal in age. "And I really don't want you using that in the house. I really do have an infant and I don't want it getting left somewhere for him to find or for you to burn it in here."

She offered Abel a tentative smile. "Why don't I make some coffee for everyone instead. You don't need that stuff."

He glanced away as he felt warmth swelling in his cheeks. He knew she didn't mean anything by it, though. Amelia was just nice to everyone, that's the way she was. But he did listen to her. He still didn't understand what the big deal was for why it would be illegal, but he wasn't at home. If she really didn't want him using the nomad grass, he wouldn't.

Abel sighed as he put it back away. "No... I'm fine. I'm just..." He clenched his fists. "I wish there was something we could do! It doesn't feel right to just leave everyone to their fate. But if we do anything... it'll just make the guild look bad. I wish we could save the other members from going to jail, but... we can't."
