Esus' ear flicked back, catching a disapproving tone to her voice. Confusion rose and he looked back at Xiaoshi; did he say something wrong? "Xiaoshi...." He trailed off frowning. He didn't like to pry; her business was her business...but.... But he wanted to know what was wrong with her.
He looked back down at the water. "Are you okay?" He asked a little reluctantly. He stared intently at the fish, but merely batted at them.

Xiaoshi sighed and made a note in the back of her head to work on keeping the emotion out of her voice. She had been rather good at it at one point in time. Done with her fish she walked over to the bank and sat down next to him. "yep... just in the future sweetheart is a no no. I have rather bad memories with that word" she explained.

Esus looked at her from the corner of his eye, frowning to himself. Bad memories? Well, he'd find the fox that gave her tha t memory and...and.... He caught his thoughts and ruthlessly squashed the urge to pry further. If she wanted to talk about it, she would.
"I apologize, I didn't know." Esus said. He hesitated again before asking his next question...but he didn't want to hurt her again, or make her mad necessarily. Bad memories were not what he wanted her to remember while around him. "Are there any other words you'd like me to avoid?"

"mmm just mostly sweetheart. I guess honey but that can be used by my mate on Tuesdays and the occasional Saturday." She joked. "Dear also is a bit of a pet peeve. It reminds me of something a grand mother would call you... if I had one. No its okay its to the point it mostly is just irksome now."

Esus blinked at her. "So...basically every pet name that is commonly in use, you disagree with. Dang, I'm going to have to get inventive." He smirked at her, ignoring the fish and giving her the once over.
"Hmm...how about 'Princess'?" He looked again and shook his head. "Nah, not princess. They always need rescuing, and I doubt you'll need much rescuing. Sugar and Pookie are just out," he stuck his tongue out and wrinkled his nose, "it would kill my awesome manliness." He teased.
"Queens don't need any rescuing 'cause by the time they're queens, they are tough as nails. Goddesses need even less." Esus pointed out, laughing. He was having fun with this, and not really expecting her to actually pick out a nickname. He just knew talking was better than the awkward silence following his last outburst.

"Queen I could see if I ruled over something. Maybe if I was an elder. Goddess... mmm that implies I could do something really powerful or special. Talking to kits and helping injured modifoxes doesnt really count since lots of people can do it" Xiaoshi teased just to be a pain in the butt. "As for sugar... pookie and princess..." she trailed off and just glared at him.

Esus smiled back, completely unrepentant. "What? I discarded those as soon as I said them. And you could be my goddess. I think you're pretty special. Ooh, how about 'special'? Or Angel, Beautiful...I once met a fox who called his mate Snookums."
He was already laughing at the outrage Snookums might cause. He was just glad she hadn't tried to get back at him with nicknames of her own. He'd probably roll right into the river.

The glare slowly intensified and Xiaoshi wondered if she tackled him would it give her enough force for them to end up in the river. Well esus was standing pretty close to the bank. She could probably do it. she wondered what was this need to give her a nickname. She had a perfectly nice name... that was a bit hard to say for some people, but it was still a nice name. She supposed these names where better than esus trying to come up with some shortened version of her name. She still wasn't too happy with her tribe's shaman cutting off most of her name. "angel works I suppose"

"Angel. I like it, especially with that glare you're sending my way, Xiaoshi." Esus chuckled. "You know you look amazing when you're all riled up. Forgive me for teasing you." He didn't say 'sorry', he didn't want to lie since he wasn't sorry at all. In fact, his tail was still waving behind him in amusement.
"Shall I offer you the ability to retaliate?" he asked. "Although, since I'm both male and have a short name, nicknames don't really seem to be an issue for me."

Xiaoshi refrained from saying anything and thought over her different options. "I'm not really the verbal type I get my revenge mostly through other means" Xiaoshi pointed out and with that pounced on him angling it just right so that it would have the greatest chance of causing the both of them to go falling into the river.

Xiaoshi hit him hard and he staggered back, beating his wings in furious futility as he tried to keep his balance. 'Well, that was unexpected.' he thought as the two of them careened over the bank and into the cool waters of the river. The fish went flying off in every direction.
He came up laughing, hair drenched and hanging in his face. His wings flailing a little to help him get some equilibrium. "Well, Angel, that was probably very much deserved on my part." He shook his head, water going everywhere and looked for Xiaoshi. He spotted her and had to laugh again. She still looked beautiful and he looked like a drowned rat.

Xiaoshi laughed feeling a lot lighter and happier now she had gotten her name. Maybe she could fix the slight awkwardness between herself and the tribe shaman by pushing the poor vixen into the pond. Some how Xiaoshi thought it wouldn't have the desired results.
She looked over at Esus and let out a slight chuckle trying not go into full laughing. He did look a little bit like a drowned rat... albeit a cute one with wings.

Esus flung his head back, getting his hair out of his face as he made his way to the bank. "Oh, you think that was funny, do you?" He smiled at her as he sent a soft splash at Xiaoshi, inviting her to play with him in the cool waters.

"No I didnt think that was funny, that was payback. how you look is a bit funny now is all" Xiaoshi pointed out shaking off the new water covered all over her. She would join esus in playing in a second, but she kind of missed the water. In solarie sure there was an oasis but she kind of missed the gallons and gallons of water out in the world.

"Uh-huh." Esus replied. He hopped up on the bank, since it didn't seem she was interested in a small splash war. Esus shook himself vigorously, sending droplets flying everywhere. Sitting down, he put a paw up to mess with his hair, putting it back into some semblance of order. "I'm so glad you think I look funny." he teased, flicking the last bits of water off his wings.
