Samwise Chubb Just got my hands on Batman Beyond Season 1, a little bit of a belated buy, but I got there eventually. It's a fairly decent purchase, for £13. 13 episodes, 2 commentaries on the pilot and Shriek episodes. Score Only sections in features, to highlight the effectiveness of the show's music, and a meet the creators feature. Pretty bare and boring, nothing spectacular. I'm more concerned about the series 2 release, scheduled for October 24th, which includes 26 episodes. Not a big recomendation, but fans shouldn't pass up the chance to get it on the cheap. Never actually heard of that particular series, I must ashamedly confess. Any details?

Batman Beyond, or "Batman of the Future" as it's known in the UK, is the story of Terry McGuiness, a high schooler in the year 2047. He's the typical troubled loner with a heart of gold.
20 years ago, Bruce Wayne made his last flight as Batman, having a heart attack in the middle of a battle, he has no option but to point a gun at the attacking crook. Devistated by the fact he was actually going to use a gun, he closes the Batcave forever and spirals into a life of depression and lonliness, letting his company get merged with rival business Derek Powers Industries.
During the pilot episode, Bruce and Terry meet while Terry is on the run from a pack of Jokerz (a huge gang of vandalists who imitate The Joker) and he accidentally stumbles into the Batcave. When Terry returns home he finds his father was killed, to cover up a secret at Wayne-Powers and he returns to get help from Bruce.
Long story short, he steals the Batman suit, which is electronic and pretty enhanced doing for him what the Iron-Spider suit does for Spidey. After the pilot, Bruce recruits Terry to continue the fight, with Terry in the suit and Bruce in the Batcave giving him guidance and instructions.
It's a VERY well done series, though suffers one huge flaw, the best episodes are always ones which deal with the original Batman mythology (Mr. Freeze returning, episode where Terry works out Commissioner Barbara is Batgirl, Ras Al Ghul and the made for video movie Return of the Joker), so it never gets the chance to develop as it's own show, but it is VERY VERY good.
Check it out sometime, unless of course you recognise the series as Batman of the Future, and knew everything I just said, which is likely.

Quote: "Batman of the Future" as it's known in the UK Gotcha. I have seen quite a few episodes. So it's finally got a DVD release? I may have to purchase. I do like what I've seen, and t'will sit nicely alongside my Batman animated series boxset.

Well ahead of you, Nua. Between myself and a friend, we're spreading the word.
Weird thing is, I'm the only Gargoyles fan I know who actually BOUGHT these things.
I'm very very tempted to make a fundraising attempt and buy a copy for anyone who wants one. If word got to Greg, I may be rewards *arches fingers*
Kitty wants his Hunters Moon!
Oh, and just for reference, I recently bought Die Hard (Collectors) for my dad and Dogma (Special) for myself, with yet more rentals arriving. My DVD collection is finally getting some proper love.

I'd have bought it if I could've afforded it - but do not take that as a suggestion! smile

For any fans of the big G (like me!), the original Gojira/Godzilla is now on dvd. I plan on picking it up whenever I can amass a few extra bucks, as I've never gotten the chance to see original Japanese version. There's also the American version with Raymond Burr included, so it's not too bad of a package for about $20.

I'll pick it up sooner or later.

*revives thread*
I had an expensive month last month, what with Darkwing, TaleSpin and all 3 original Star Wars. I also took a chance that my memory wasn't misleading me and imported from Australia an Austrian police dog show, Kommissar Rex. Australia has the right idea and airs this in the original German with English subtitles, so the DVDs are the same. I first saw this show while I was in Madrid and used to video it every Saturday night, if I was dragged out to socialise smile
Luckily, the chance paid off big time. I'd not seen the first season before, but it rocked. Basically, the story is about a homicide squad and the police dog one of the detectives ends up adopting after the death of his handler. As you can imagine, the German Shepherd is really the star of the show and he's an absolute sweetheart! biggrin
Meanwhile, Play.com is trying to bankrupt me by stealth, announcing a blow-out sale. Already in my shopping basket are Prince Of Thieves & The Mask. Some folk here may be interested to know Mirrormask is available for £5.99, as is Dark Crystal. Extended versions of the Lord of the Rings are at £8.99 each. Serenity at £4.99?? Are they mad? The Four Musketeers is £4.99, but fairly useless without the Three Musketeers. Incidentally, I think theirs is the definitive version. Any movie with Faye Dunaway, Oliver Reed, Charlton Heston, Roy Kinnear, Michael York, Rodney Bewes from "The Likely Lads", Raquel Welch and Doctor Kildare himself has got to be good biggrin Aha, the Three Musketeers is also available at £4.99...
I'm trying to resist the Crocodile Dundee I & II boxset and Bubba Ho-Tep. And I'm trying even harder to resist the He-Man / She-Ra Christmas special...

I keep telling myself I'll pick up dvd sets of Samurai Jack, Animaniacs, and Family Guy, but until I get a job and all, I'll be waiting still. And yet, watch me end up going straight for SatAM should that truly come out next year. razz
And...does anyone know about a Sam and Max dvd release coming out? I saw a few banner ads on various sites, but clicking on them just led me to stores that didn't load. They mention "Sam and Max Season 1", but I can't tell if they mean the old cartoon, or if just some online promotion thing. I'll definitely give a "Heck yeah!" if a dvd release is on the way!

Now that's an intriguing notion! Tvshowsondvd.com isn't showing any information on this one... There's a post about "season 1" that appears to be talking about a video game. Which is also nice, given that Lucasfilm canned the game just before it was ready to be released... Try here: http://www.telltalegames.com/samandmaxI did pick up Sam & Max Hit the Road on PC from a charity shop. That's a suitably bizarre game smile But I'd still rather see the cartoon series again. Though it does require a mildly black sense of humour. In the meantime, Masters of Horror boxset (first 7 episodes) will finally release in just under a week.
