Oh, no. She was taking off the cast. He hissed softly, worried, and considered flying up to stop her, but...even if he stopped her now, the cast was already damaged and she would just remove it later. Instead he relaxed for a bit, sunbathing, until he heard the pitter-patter of little fox paws on the roof. Huh? He looked up just in time to see her leap off the top of the building.
Iro gave a much louder hiss now, taking to the air. If she fell, with her leg in that condition..! But in the end, everything was fine. She landed roughly, but without incident, and she had glided successfully! He landed down next to her, making soft noises in satisfaction. How wonderful!

Kayou, hopped up, dancing around happily for a few moments, then stopped, tilting her head in curiosity.
The whatever it was...it wasn't as big as she'd thought it to be. She padded closer, sniffing at it lightly, getting more curious as to what it was, and why it seemed smaller than it was before.

That was strange. She certainly seemed...bigger. He held still as she sniffed him, suddenly feeling happy. Now that she was full-size, she'd be able to take care of herself much better!
Ayiiii!
A call came from the forest, beautiful and serene. Immediately his ears swiveled to the source, but it was somewhat far away. Iro looked to the fox, tilting his head. What was that?

Kayou stopped, tilting her head, her wings fanning out and hackles starting to stand as she turned towards the sound. That wasn't one of the normal sounds of her home.

Okay, so neither of them knew what it was. In the name of science, an experiment should take place! The serpent began to slither towards the source of the noise, slowly, nervously. He looked over his wing at Kayou, hoping that she would follow. He didn't want to find whatever it was alone.

Kayou started towards the sound as well, slipping through the trees and heading towards it along a slightly different pathway.
She folded her wings tight along her body, being sure to not move too fast that she couldn't keep silent, her sleek body moving around, under, or over obstacles as if she were boneless.

Iro wasn't too good at being soundless, being a snake and all. His scales naturally made a slight hissing as he went along, and though he tried to mask it, it didn't work well. The call came again, this time much louder - and the serpent paused, barely stopping a whimper from leaving his body. He turned and looked at Kayou with a look that could be described as pure terror. It was right up ahead, whatever it was.

Kayou paused. That sound was nearby. She looked at her companion, then looked up into the trees, carefully plotting her next few steps.
Quickly, she jumped forward, turning so that when she hit the tree in front of her, she hit it with all four paws. She crouched, letting her momentum keep her against the tree for a moment before pushing off even harder, angling back to another tree.
She did this a few more times, rebounding silently until she was up in the limbs of one, the patterns on her dark fur helping her blend in with the dappled light.
Carefully, she moved forward, looking down carefully, trying to see where that noise was coming from.

He couldn't help but gawk as the fox scaled the trees silently. How agile, and incredible! For a moment, Iro even felt that he was inferior to her, his scaled tail being useful for little except swimming around in the water and whacking things. Although, whacking things might come in handy. Gulping, he slithered forward, ducking under a bush. If whatever it was attacked him, Kayou would save him, right?
Slowly he stuck his head forward, peering out into the clearing. In front of him was a huge, majestic bird, easily the height of a human from wing-tip to wing-tip. The thing had a long, elegant neck, with a short, stunted beak at the tip. The bird was burrowing around in the ground with its beak, swishing a long, forest green tail about as it did so. Finally it pulled away from the shallow hole it had dug, effortlessly cracking a nut with its beak.
Iro watched the leaf-green bird in awe. He'd never seen a species like that before. It was beautiful.

Kayou paused, watching the bird avidly. Looks like dinner was served.
She walked along the limb she was on until she was right above the spot she wanted, and then jumped down. As she fell, she spread her wings, cupping them to slow her descent, landing behind a somewhat thick bush with a soft rustle, almost as if a stray breeze had moved the leaves.
She settled down low to the ground, slinking around the bush quietly, hoping the bird didn't turn around and see her as she snuck closer towards it.

Sure enough, the bird was too entranced by its digging (which it had resumed by now) to notice the fox behind her. Iro simply watched, ears drooping. He knew what she was about to do, but...was it really necessary? Had the stock of food in the hut ran out, or did she just value a fresh meal? He couldn't approve of taking the life of another creature, even for food, when he could do as well without.
Sometimes he hated that he was a carnivore, but there was nothing he could do.

Kayou watched the bird for a moment, assessing it's size. Maybe it was too big for her to take, and her friend seemed reluctant to approach it.
She continue to watch it for a few moments before quickly darting behind it, purposefully rustling the bush she had been behind to see what the bird would do, disappearing behind a tree and ghosting over to her friend.

The bird immediately took flight, screaming, clearly frightened by the rustling of the bush. After a moment of scanning, it alighted back to the mossy ground, cooing fearfully. It waved its head around, checking for intruders, and then went back to discovering (and eating) some poor squirrel's cache of nuts.
Iro looked over to Kayou, shaking his head. This thing was huge, and its death would be unnecessary.

Kayou sighed softly. That bird would have kept her feed for at least a week, but then she just shrugged. She stalked back towards the bird, this time angling around so she'd pop out in front of it.
She worked her way along quietly, until she was almost on top of it. With a very big grin, she suddenly popped out of cover, right in front of the bird.
"Konnichiwa!"
She waited for it's response, ready to dart away if it got aggressive. This could prove to be amusing, if it was that easily startled.

The bird screeched and flapped its wings in distress, toppling over on its little stick-legs after a second. For a little while it flopped around, legs and wings and head whirling, until finally it managed to get into the air and scramble away, clearly still disoriented.
Not that Iro got to see it fly away, he was too busy laughing so hard that he wasn't able to sit up. Genius, pure genius!
