She watched the pup answer, he seemed so able to right his moods now that he wasn't cowering in fear and hunger. Even when he mentioned his family he picked his mood back up. It was a bit of a reliefe, the old 'I know how you feel' routine only worked... never. He finished up his optomistic declaration of friendship with a trailing statement, and she smilled again, looking up and laughing.
"You are a good kid, you know? You can treat me as a sister if you want, I don't have any younger brothers. And I'm sure we'll find lots of friends," she added, and actualy believed it. He was such a good wolf, and he deserved better than his current lot in life. A bird called out in the distance, and she looked off in the direction. It was already getting late, she hadn't realized until she looked at the dimming sky.

This is what it had to feel like to fly. To feel so free, and so carelessly blithe. Mabon felt like he was running with the cluds now...he was so happy. He didn't know when the happy would go away-- it would have to, eventually-- but he was living for the moment right now. He was a good kid...
Was he really?
He believed it for now. Sometimes the kind words of another were all it takes to let one live for even if only a moment. A sister...he had a big sister now. A sister from Telk. His new home, if all went well.
He tipped his head upwards. Oh, where had the light gone? He didn't think the day had gone by so fast, but when you lived a life of sleeping for days at a time and then running when you weren't sleeping...the flow of time seemed distorted. He turned back to Hati. Finding friends was all well and good to the pup, but finding a place to stay the night was top priority.
"Where are we gonna sleep tonight, Hati?"
It was easy to think of her as a sister, but to acknowledge it and speak it was another thing....

Hati glanced at the setting sun for a moment longer, before turning her head back to the puppy. That was a good question. She didn't have a home. She considered it for a moment, continuing to wag so that Mabon didn't take her silence wrong. A few ideas ran through her head, in the end it came down to near the river, but in the trees. She looked about, standing up to better get a hang of the surroundings. Ah, yeah, just a little ways away from where they had met there was a nice brushy area.
"I think," she said, looking back at him again, "that those trees off a bit to the right will do fine, yeah?"

Mabon bobbed his head in agreement. Any place to lay down and sleep would be good. Anyplace that wasn't out in the freezing open. He had found some nice places while he was wandering, actually. He usually huddled in hollow trees, stumps, old burrows...anyplace he could find for shelter but it wasn't the same without another wolf or two. he used to sleep in a den back home with his dam and littermatit made for very warm and cozy sleeping arrangements. But that was gone. Maybe...maybe Hati would let him huddle with her. He'd propose that later, though.
"That sound good...sis." he said, trying out the new title, and then watching the she-wolf for her reaction.

She wagged her tail in conformation, looking about again. It was nessesary to be pretty careful before you decided to stay somewhere. Hati had taken to thouroughly surveying the enviroments she had decided to stay in as an attempt to stay out of trouble. She stood fully and glanced at Mabon for a moment.
"Stay here for a second, yeah?" she asked happily, "I gotta make sure there isn't anything around here that'd be trouble."
With that she headed down the river a bit, sniffing carefully with her narrow snout. Her paws left indentations in the softish soil, her tail wagging gently behind her. Nothing yet. She hung a quick right, still within sight of the pup, and sniffed the drying ground before breating in the higher air. Still nothing, that was good. She turned right once more and trotted past mabon, towards the oposite direction she had gone in, farther than before.
With a cheerful bark she turned her heel and headed back to him, tail wagging.
"All clear buck-o!"

Mabon nodded obidiantly and sat down. He was good at what he did...that being listening to everyone but himself and doing what they wanted. But he was a puppy, and that's what puppies did. So he sat contentedly, waiting for Hati.
Of course, being alone and having some time to think for himself usually resulted in worry and bother for the small wolf. His mind started to race as his tail slowly stopped it's wagging. What...what if she never came back. What if she left him here, in Telk...at night? She wouldn't, right? No...no...she was his sister. His big sister. She wouldn't. But still...he felt worried.
Until she came back, tail wagging, barking happily. it was enough to cause Mabon's tail to start wagging again. He stood up and trotted lightly over to her.
"That's good, sis. Let's go!" he said his back clear and full of relief. Relief it was safe and relief that she was back.

She smilled at him, amused. It was still weird being called sis. Even her own siblings hadn't really liked her, she had said some... not nice things about the way they acted when she was younger. As a result everyone called her by her name. It wasn't nessesarily a bad thing that they had, but it did make her slightly unused to being called anything else. But that was okay, the pup needed someone to call a sister. She wagged her tail and nudged him with her nose in the direction she had pointed earlier, a bit to the right of where they stood, and back into the forrest.
Confident that he would follow she took deep, relaxed strides in the direction of the brushy area, smelling about for prey, keeping an eye out for her bird. As they pierced the treeline she saw him, and looked to see how he felt about the pup. Unfortuanately, Munin and her didn't have much on the communication level, so he still just looked like a bird to her. He hadn't run off though.
Within a within the time span of a minute they had reached the brush. It was a good place to sleep, edged in by a bolder and bushes on most sides, a slight indentation in the center forming a comfortable little C of protection. She looked back at the puppy, grinning for a moment, and then walked into the indentation happily.
"well," she addressed her brother calmly, "it won't be a permanant type of thing, but it'll work for now, eh?"

Mabon stumbled a bit when she nudged him but quickly trotted after her as she left, breaking into a bit of a run to keep up. She wasn't going too fast but Mabon had the tendancy to lag and plus...Hati's body and legs were longer, giving her bigger strides. But It wasn't too hard for the pup to keep up.
Mabon looked around at the place they were staying. it was a nice place and while it wasn't the lap of luxury...it was better then some places he'd stay. this seemed...almost cozy the way it was cupped by boulders and foliage. yes, this would do fine.
He followed after Hati, heading for the middle with her. He sat next to her, looking up to her.
"Yeah...it looks like a nice place." he said, echoing agreement.
He still wondered...what it would feel like to cuddle against her side. What it would feel like to cuddle against any wolf's side. It had been a long time since he had company to keep him warm.

((*dies from adorableness of Mabon*))
She smiled distractedly and completed a little ritual familiar to all wolves; she circled about the area she planned on laying down, pacing a couple of times, flattening anything that might be in her way, and checking for inconsitancies in the ground. How much attention she paid to it was disputable, for while it held her complete attention, she did it almost automaticaly, only paying careful attention to not tripping on the puppy. She finished after a moment, and then wagged her tail, again before flopping down with her back mainly toward the enterance, yawning. It was already mostly dark, and while wolves really didn't see any worse at night there was currently no reason for her to be awake.
She set her head on her paws and watched the puppy, wondering if he was comfortable enough to sleep near her yet.

[He is cute, huh? ^^]
Mabon stayed where he was sitting, almost considering just flopping down. He watched Hati circle the area before settling down, reminded of how his mother and the bigger wolves did the same thing. Mabon on the other hand...usually just ploppee right down. he...wasn't quite like other wolves. But perhaps it wasn't as much that as it was the fact that he was still a young wolf, learning about life. He got up and came a little closer, still reflexively wary. He brought his ears down a bit and approched her with his head lowered and tail between his legs...though the tip still wagged a bit.
"Hati-sis...can I...lay down with you?" he asked shyly. He didn't know if the older she-wolf would cotton to having him so near while she slept. He had just met her and she might not like a clingly wolf around when she rested...but still...he thought it was worth a try to ask...

She huffed out at him calmly and thumped her tail lightly, "'course you can," she said dismissively, smiling a little. She didn't mind at all, she had grown up with a pack, and even though she didn't always get along she had always spent nights huddled with her family in their den. Not bothering to see if Mabon would accept her answer, she closed her eyes, curling her still slightly waving tail around her legs quietly and breathing out. Now that she had found somewere to sleep she was tired, she hadn't slept well in awhile, and if the pup hadn't been there she probably wouldn't have settled down yet anyway, she herself was a very impatient wolf, so sleep sometimes seemed useless to her. But she wasnt' stupid, puppies, especialy beaten up puppies, needed sleep.
She noted distractedly that her leg was still wet, one of the many pre-sleep rambling thoughts that come to you when you have nothing else to think of.

Mabon came a little closer, still shyly and for a moment was almost tempted to just give up the pursuit and lay down a few feet away. But his mind opted for warmth and comfort. He settled down againt Hati's side somewhat awkwardly, resting his head against her fur in particular. He tried not to lean to much of his body against her as he was still a little damp, though. But that's when exhaustion hit. Sleepy now, he decided it was time to take advantage of 'safe' sleeping arrangements and get a full night's rest.
This was the first time in a long time he had another wolf to cuddle against and it was refreshing to have such a privlage once more. It made him homesick, though. He missed his mother and his littlermates. He missed the other pups in his pack. He whined softyly and huddled a little closer against Hati. He closed his eyes, which felt markedly better now that the sun had gone to bed, and dozed off.
But his sleep wasn't peaceful by a long shot. It never was.
He had dreams again....like the ones he had been having for the last week or so. They were fairly vague ones...but yet he knew enough of what they meant to be properly upset by them. A pair of snapping jaws coming at his face, pain exploding in his jaw and side....being rolled a** over teakettle...and then the running. The uninhibited panic that sent him bolting blindly...and then cold. lots of cold around him. Water....being tossed around like a leaf in a river...it was a river, right? It felt bigger, but it had to be a river. He couldn't breathe....he needed to keep his head above water but it was hard...then black. All black.
His feet twitched as his mind raced with terrible recollections of how his last few weeks had been. He whined in his sleep, tossing a bit uneasily.

Sleep quickly stole upon the older wolf, though not before the little wolf had settled against her. Satisfied that he would be okay she sank into a light, but peaceful slumber. Once, when she had not yet reached this land, she had nearly been attacked by a mountain lion. Afterwards she learned to sleep a little more lightly, never fully leaving the realm of consciousness. Despite this she always managed to be well rested, as she was practiced in waking and falling back asleep just as quickly. Her mind was untroubled, as usual, and she enjoyed a troubless slumber for a bit.
Not for long though. A bit into the night she was awakened by the fretful form of her companion. He was whining a bit, in the way a dreaming puppy often did, though his dreams aparently held none of the rabbit chasing that hers had. Feeling as though he wouldn't be able to gain much strength like that, she lifted her head and licked his forehead lightly, curling around him a bit. She didn't want to wake him, but rather calm him. Still, she was ackward, and so her success probably wasn't to be bet upon.

Mabon didn't like these dreams There was always a terrible feeling when they occured...and it was even worse it seemed after you woke up. Like the impact of the fear fully hit you. thankfully it tended to fade quickly in most cases.
But it seemed Mabon was an exception to a lot of things. He jerked awake suddenly, feeling Hati's tongue on his head as his first consious sensation. It startled him at first as his sleep-groggy brain tried to recall where he was and who he was with. At first his intinct had been to sturggle and bite wildly, but he was quickly reminded of the past day's incidences and stopped himself. He looked up at Hati, still tired and a bit startled, but then settled back down, a little sheepishly, and went back to sleep without a word. Sometimes exhaustion outweighed emotion...

((sorry Koko, finals exploded on me >>; ))
Hati kept a careful (if sleepy) eye on the pup as he woke up. Ah, she was a total failure at this whole comfort buisness, but there wasn't much she could do about it. At least he seemed to settle back down afterwards. She stayed awake for a bit longer, studying the night suroundings lazily and sniffing a bit. There wasn't much to see from the makeshift den, but the night sky showed through the branched, providing a veiw of the moon and of scattered clouds. It was probably going to be only partly cloudy tommorow. Or was it today? Like it really mattered. Finaly, blinking heavily and yawning a bit she set her head back down, allowing herself to float back into her gentle slumber.
