He should have known. Jianyu rolled his eyes, letting out an exasperated sigh as he raised his head, his hands smoothing down across Bataar's chest as he leaned back a bit.
"I'm sure they do." he said dryly. "I'm sure they do."
Closing his eyes briefly, Jianyu shook his head slightly as he tried to clear his thoughts. Then he tilted his head back, looking up at Bataar.
Here goes nothing.
"I'll...be your boyfriend on one condition." he said. "That you don't...do anything stupid...in our...'relationship.'"
What...did I just say?

Bataar nodded imperiously as Jianyu awknowledged the fact that he must indeed be universally liked. That was only natural with someone as awesome as he was, after all. Even his enemies must have secretly loved him! In his mind, it was true that he was just that amazing, although this belief somehow didn't lend itself to big-headedness in any way.
He observed Jianyu with some confusion as he looked up and spoke, blinking as the odd terms were set down. Well, that in itself was sure to be easy! He grinned and nodded, surprised at how easily Jianyu had given in after their argument just moments earlier. He himself didn't really understand what he was getting into, but then nor did he care. All Bataar knew was that his wish had been fulfilled.
"Well, I never do anything stupid in the first place, so that's easy!"

"You are always doing something stupid." Jianyu said in exasperation. "I'm just asking you to actually consider what you are doing before you actually do it for once in your life."
Jianyu did not know what he was doing. Or, for that matter, why in Lunaria's name he had just agreed to a relationship with Bataar. Bataar, of all people. His head and his heart obviously were not in correllation with one another. Nothing good good come out of this..."relationship," he was certain of that.
Yet he had still agreed. Why? It frustrated him that Jianyu did not know the answer to this question. Even more so that it bothered him that Bataar might one day actually wind up in a relationship with a woman.
What have I gotten myself into?
Jianyu looked back up at Bataar.
"So, what now?" he asked.

"I happen to always carefully consider everything!" he objected, looking vexed. He really did fail to see from Jianyu's point-of-view, but for him it was rather natural to only consider impulse and instinct; those were the two factors that drove each and every decision he made, and he did not often stray from them.
Bataar didn't see the slightest problem with his relationship with Jianyu; it seemed only natural that someone he ended up kissing so often should date him. He tended to place an uncanny amount of weight in his emotions. If his heart took control over his head, so be it. That was perfectly natural and normal for the Mongol, after all, no matter how much everyone else looked on in absolute horror. If he liked Jianyu, then he liked Jianyu and that was the end of the story; why not act on it, too?
Bataar turned his attention back to the other man, frowning as he considered his next move. "I know!" he exclaimed brightly. "Let's go on a date!"

"Bataar. This is not a date." Jianyu said, for what seemed like the fourth time in as many minutes. "Are you even aware of what the term 'date' even means?"
Standing under the quiet shelter of Cherry Tree Hill, Jianyu leaned back against the massive, gnarled trunk, glaring at the man in question. He was not exactly pleased about how the day was going so far.
Nor the apple that Bataar had cheerfully plunked on top of his head after saying he had a "secret place" he wanted to go to."
"No wonder no girl would consider you!" Jianyu snapped. "If you treat them like a shooting target, who would?"

"Hey! Stay still!" Bataar cautioned, closing one of his eyes to ensure that he got a better shot at the apple on top of Jianyu's head. In his opinion, this was a great date. He couldn't have been more proud of his decision, in fact. They were both archers to some extent, right? So why not take advantage of their similarities and make Jianyu into his official apple-on-top target? Sometimes his own intelligence just blew him away.
Bat grinned and aimed carefully, finally loosing his arrow and watching with satisfaction as the apple flew off of Jianyu's head, having taken a direct hit. He grinned as he noted that part of it had exploded, probably getting bits of apple and apple juice all over Jianyu.
"But you like me still, right?" he asked, marching up to pluck a stray piece of apple off of Jianyu's cheek to eat.
That was certainly the original charm of the Mongol showing.

"BATAAR!" Jianyu screeched as the Mongol released his arrow. He had doubt that the other Lunarian was a good fighter; he had first hand knowledge of that very fact. But whether or not he was a good shot...? Well...that was quite a different story.
Juice from the apple slid down Jianyu's face and he glared up at Bataar as the Mongol grinned at him cheekily and popped a piece of apple into his mouth. Ignoring that smug smile, Jianyu reached up, tangling his fingers in Bataar's hair and dragging his face down to kiss him deeply. After a few moments he pulled away, his teeth crunching down on the apple piece.
"I don't like you as of this moment." Jianyu said, swallowing the apple. "Next time you wish to go on a date, please find somewhere else suitable to take me. Shooting arrows and fighting are not options, regardless of what you might think."

Bataar had to maintain that he was a much better archer from horseback; his bow was much less suited to general shooting, as he'd just done with Jianyu. Still, he didn't think he was half-bad for something he was so utterly unaccustomed to. He grinned proudly to himself, having ignored the Legionnaire's distress while he'd shot the arrow. It was, after all, no big deal.
He couldn't lie about his surprise when Jianyu kissed him (and stole his damned apple; it wasn't fair). "Hey, this is a great place for a date." he replied, looking faintly irked now that Jianyu had declared that he no longer liked him. It was true that Bataar didn't see a problem with his idea of a date, and that he wasn't likely to find one in the near future. He had personally believed that shooting an apple atop Jianyu's head was perfectly romantic. In the Jaoret clan, it might have been, after all.
He leaned down and brushed his lips against Jianyu's cheek, capturing a rivulet of the apple juice that had been making its way down. "I don't see the problem here."

"Perhaps you don't see a problem because you're too thickheaded to see one." Jianyu retorted, but his face was flushed as the Mongol's lips moved across his cheek. His hands were resting on Bataar's shoulders and as he moved back, Jianyu leaned up, pressing a light kiss to his lips.
There's definitely...something wrong with me that I don't find this repulsive, Jianyu thought absently as he pulled away, color flooding his cheeks.
Something horrendously wrong with me.
"Perhaps we should go on a 'trial' date of sorts." Jianyu said with a sigh. "Obviously you have no clue whatsoever of how to go about it."

"I am not thickheaded." Bataar replied, looking faintly surprised at Jianyu's kiss. He never knew when the Legionnaire would strike; his kisses seemed much too unpredictable sometimes. Not that it honestly mattered, Bat reflected. He wasn't sure if he'd ever be able to read the other man's behavioral patterns.
It was altogether possible that this wasn't going to work out very well. "A trial date? But this is a perfectly good date!" Bat protested, absolutely confident in his dating skills. If he'd done enough on this date to have already made Jianyu kiss him twice, then he figured he'd done something right. His belief made enough sense to him, and he didn't see the charm in any contrived sort of date. Why, that might have been part of the reason he was dating Jianyu instead of some girl! He'd fully expected them to have epic fist-fights and to do target practice and everything. It had seemed logical at the time.
He had every clue of what he was doing. "Geez, you don't want much." Bat said, his tone heavy with sarcasm as he plucked a bit of apple out of Jianyu's hair and unceremoniously shoved it into his mouth. "Didju want me to go pick you a bouquet while I'm at it?" He grinned.

"You are, by far, the most thickheaded person I've ever met." Jianyu replied irritatedly. "And no, this isn't a 'perfectly good date,' you moron. A good date does not involve shooting things at people's heads."
His scowl deepened at Bataar's next comments. Jianyu shoved away from Bataar, ducking underneath his arm to stalk back towards where his things were lying on the ground.
"B*****d!" he snapped, tying his sheath of arrows around his shoulder. "When are you going to learn to be respectable? Since the beginning, you've only ridiculed me, played with me, and now I tire of it. Of you. I am going back home."
This is what I get for actually thinking things could be different, Jianyu thought angrily to himself. I am thinking like a female. People cannot change.
Especially Bataar.

He saw things as clearly as anyone else-- just through a different light. "I don't see what's wrong with it." Bat replied, an edge to his voice as he watched the Legionnaire shove away from him. He honestly didn't see the issue. The maroon Lunarian had thought it had all been rather nice, anyway. This was his idea of the ideal date, besides the fact that Jianyu was absolutely livid at this point.
"Hey! What the hell?" Bataar demanded, watching with a high degree of incredulity as Jianyu started getting ready to leave. That made no sense! Bat, at least, had had a perfectly good time today. That was why he didn't see a problem.
He grabbed the other man's arm roughly, aiming to prevent him from leaving and bent down, snatching up a purple wildflower(probably a mere weed, but a decent-looking one at that) and shoving it in Jianyu's direction with as much sensitivity as a man like Bataar could manage.
"If you wanted a flower, you could have just told me."

Jianyu whirled around as Bataar grabbed his arm, ready to swing his fist into the other Lunarian's face, but he was stopped abruptly at the sight of the flower that Bataar shoved towards him. His face reddened unexpectedly, and he tried to ignore the small flutter of pleasure that rifled through him.
It's a FLOWER, he thought. Probably a weed. Most likely a weed. A decent looking weed, but a weed nontheless. And Bataar does not do romantic. He never will.
Not that I want romantic from him. But he is too much of a moronic imbecile to be in a relationship.
...so why do I feel absurdly pleased at this gesture?
Jianyu shoved aside his conflicting emotions and looked away.
"I never said I wanted a flower, idiot." he said forcefully, but his face was red.

Bataar nodded at Jianyu, his expression faintly understanding. "I know you never said it. I don't know why not." he replied, noting that flower was now in a rather awkward position between the two of them with Jianyu having not taken it yet. He grimaced, actually managing to feel a little-- embarrassed? -- before tucking the flower carefully behind the Legionnaire's ear.
After doing that, he leaned down to place a feather-light kiss on Jianyu's lips, ignoring the rising color in his own cheeks. Maybe this girlfriend thing hadn't been such a good idea after all; he was beginning to feel awkward left and right, and he was not used to feeling at all awkward about anything.
"Are you still angry?"

Jianyu's face was a brilliant red as Bataar gently tucked the flower behind his ear. He felt...quite feminine with it there, but he didn't move to take it out. The whole gesture was entirely uncharacteristic of Bataar, including the soft kiss he gave him after.
"No." he said, after a long moment. "No, I am not angry."
Jianyu reached up, touching the side of Bataar's face, letting his fingers trail down his warm cheek.
"Your face is red." he said quietly. "Perhaps we both have the same illness after all."
This wasn't going to work. Jianyu knew that, somewhere. There was no way that a man like Bataar could be serious about bathing, let alone a relationship. And a relationship with himself, of all people. This was bound to end up more trouble than it was worth.
But...for the moment...Jianyu simply gave up. The urge to leave had dissipated, at least for now, and Jianyu let out a frustrated sigh, ducking his head.
"I don't know what to do anymore." he mumbled, mostly to himself.
