Mau slowly eased himself back to the chair as the Arcanine was reprimanded and sent to his pokeball. He glanced between Cal and Nadja as the younger grunt asked what would happen to it. He had a suspicion Cal had a 'noble hearted intention' to try and "save" the pokemon.
"Unknown." Mau replied to her question. "There's the possibility they were damaged previously. To my knowledge, they were in good order when the project was started. However" He hesitated slightly "I was not assigned to this project until recently. Unfortunately, the information I can offer on the equipment's state of being is based on what information I had upon assignment to the project." He lowered his head a moment, in a mild form of apologetic respect.

Nyx didn't say anything. She was sort of... staring off at nothing. There was something she was supposed to be doing. Oh yeah, talking about... stuff. Eh, whatever. What was that about restraints?
"When was the last equipment inspection?" Nyx was staring up at the ceiling. She really should have been taking it easy, letting her stitches heal up, maybe napping. Things you did while you were on pain medication. But apparently, before things had kicked in, she decided reporting to Nadja was more important than healing.

Bitter tear welled up in her eyes. She couldn't think of anything to help with the pokemon's situation. There must be something that she could do to persuade the elite. But she was not supposed to talk back. Even if she did she had nothing to say in it's defense.
Her emotions welled up inside. Cal turned her head from view to dry her eyes, but the tears were starting to flow steadily. She could always blame it on the wound, but everyone would know that was a lie.

Nadja reached for her tea while Mau spoke, having another sip as he replied at length and in depth. Nyx's airy interjection drew her gaze, but it was soon back on the unofficial spokesperson for the group with knitted brows and thoughtfully narrowed eyes. When he finished, she made a neutral "mm."
It was unlikely there was anything more to be gleaned from the meeting. Nadja was getting a fair picture of the situation in the labs prior to the.. situation, one that was unlikely to be detailed further until Miller's reports came in. It was about time to adjourn before Nicole keeled over into her desk.
"Then I believe that will be all." The elite set her tea down, but her fingers curled loosely around the glazed handle. "Thank you for your input. Be sure to file secondary accident and injury reports before the incident fades from your memory, but look on your recovery as the more urgent priority." Her instructions focused on Mau; Cal wasn't in her department and she doubted Nicole would remember it. But speaking of..
"Cal. Stay behind."

Mau nodded to Nadja. "Ma'am." He saluted the elite. He felt it was a shame neither he nor Nyx could offer any more information on the incident. "Then I shall take my leave." He thought about offering his assistance in repairs of the lab, but figured, if he was needed, he'd be called upon. He looked at Cal and gave her shoulder a pat before turning to leave. He looked at Nyx and her chauffeur of a pokemon before passing.

Nyx seemed to nod a bit before she chuckled at something and closed her eyes. Her head slumped to one side as she finally succumbed to the medication.
"Squirtle..." Beaker grumbled and wheeled the drugged up scientist out of Nadja's office.

Cal could only give a solemn nod, watching the two leave before her desperately wishing she was free to go as well. Mau's kind gesture was the last thing on her mind at that moment. Her features tensed, eyes still a bit pink from the few tears that escaped. Maybe Nadja would tell her some good news in private.
Not likely- Very unlikely.
She waited patiently in the chair, door taunting her. So close, but she couldn't leave. Her lips were clamped shut for fear of becoming overwhelmed with emotion or going off and being punished even harsher. Her eyes danced on everything they could, going over the elite's desk to the walls. She sat up straight and proper, her hands folded neatly in her lap waiting ever so patiently for Nadja to speak.

Nadja nodded briefly to the scientists as they took their leave - with a speculatively raised eyebrow at Nyx's chauffeur - and sipped silently at her tea, seeming to ignore Cal until the door shut behind them, leaving only the two of them in sun-filled silence.
"I'll give you a moment to compose yourself," the elite told the grunt, her tones cool and placid - still professional, but with a little less of the intense edge of interrogation. Meanwhile, she clicked the release catch on her Arcanine's Pokeball. His first action after solidifying was to raise his nose and sniff the air, seeking the ghost of Mau's berries.
"Moloch," Nadja called, and he turned to heel, ears angled back with trepidation. She pointed to the floor by her chair. "Down." The massive dog trundled over and flopped down with a 'wumph,' ears and eyes still visible over the top of the desk. His trainer angled her chair and buried a hand in his neck ruff, soon eliciting a contented rumble and a tail thumping heavily on the carpet.
"Do you drink tea?"

Cal nodded, too shaken to talk. Her thoughts swirled around her, the little bit of small talk just gave her more time to think of the worse. What if she's demoting me? Or transferring me out of Kodo? Her eyes darted to Moloch, analyzing the magnificent beast. They were warm and cuddly, when trained properly; and Nadja had certainly done a good job, he followed commands well.
She furrowed her eyebrows- a sudden urge to pet the pooch. Her hands that were nestled comfortably in her lap went to pick at the hem of her clothes silently.

Moloch's tail-thumping slowed to a half-wave when Nadja pulled her hand away. The giant dog watched his trainer angle her chair toward the other end of the desk, puzzled that the neck-rub stopped but hopeful it would return.
"I am not in the habit of disposing of operatives if I can help it," the redhead commented, pouring and diluting a cup of steaming liquid which she set within Cal's reach. "However, your behavior concerns me. That you show more regard for a failed experiment than the teammates it injured is disturbing."
Her voice was calm, but reserved, and her gray gaze rested on the grunt analytically while she reached for her own teacup. "How long have you been with the team?"

"Thank you." Cal let her voice hum low as she took the cup provided to her. The warm liquid was sipped down; Cal not paying too much attention to the taste. Her eyes focused on Nadja, as the proper thing to do, and soaked in her words. Her hands held the cup in her lap as she contemplated her words carefully. She hadn't thought about Mau or Nyx on equal grounds as the Charizard. There was no way of talking herself out of something like this. It was all true, and not much Cal could say about it.
"About three and a half months ma'am." She managed to get out. Her voice sounded strained and dry. She took a deep sip from the cup, hoping to find relief in it's embrace.

The tea was a strong black brew, smoky and exotic, with cloves and cinnamon and a distinct citrus edge. It was hot as well, served near to boiling, and produced tendrils of coiled steam like ghostly vines.
"You're very new, then." Nadja's free hand migrated back to Moloch's fur, eliciting that rumbly hum again. It subsided after a few moments to the occasional 'bwur' when her fingers hit a particularly sweet spot. The giant dog's ears flickered.
"Tell me, then - what do you think we do here?"

This tea was very new and quiet flavorful. The exotic taste played on her taste buds with a strong, distinct flavor. If they were ever on good terms, Cal would have to ask Nadja where she gets her tea.
The question she asked hung in the space around them for a moment. Was this a test? It was common knowledge what Team Rocket did, but she doubted the elite would want a memorized motto. She summed up her courage, "We use pokemon to fit our needs. Whatever the cost." She was hoping that that was what Nadja wanted to hear so she could turn tail and run back to her room to hide for the next few days. Her hands cupped nervously around her tea cup as she watched the heat, like small plumes of smoke, rise from the dark liquid.

A thin smile appeared over the rim of Nadja's teacup. "In your own words. Good. Now, with those same words.."
"Today, the subject of an experiment known to trigger uncontrollable aggression in previous trials escaped its restraints, destroying at least ten thousand dollars worth of property and injuring three agents - two for whom I am directly responsible and one who was there on unauthorized business. My job is to run an orderly department that accomplishes goals in an efficient, cost-effective manner while insuring the continued safety of its staff."
"What needs would keeping such a liability serve? And - here's something to consider - whose wants?"

Nadjida made a good point. Of course she made a good point, Rockets aren't made elites for nothing and Nadja was one of the best. There was no use trying to say anything otherwise; it wouldn't make much sense anyway. The experiment- that savage Charizard that almost completely destroyed the lab and there was no point in trying to save it. How could she even hope to control it if it went haywire like this?
Cal's brown eyes dulled, a mix of disappointment and pain filled them as her wound seeped. She just wanted to get out of there, her heart was racing and her mind was a jumbled mess. "I agree, it would only cause more damage or end up hurting someone else. It would be in the best interest for the experiment to be terminated." It pained her with every word she spoke, but what could she do? The Charizard was going to hurt someone else soon enough.
