Meushi eyed the teen girl, still slurping her noodles. As she sucked the last noodle in her mouth, the end smacked her cheek a bit. "I don't think the wings are fake...I could be wrong but they look like they twitch once in a while." She stared and then made a face as the teen girl kept looking at them. Meushi wanted to stick her tongue out at her but felt Lin's tense body next to her. SHe looked at the woman. "Lin...just HOW many ships have disappeared this month?" She raised an hairless brow and began to pop the pieces of beef in her alien beak.

(Lin's response to Meushi)

Lin's gaze danced from her alien friend and customer to the girl at the table to the kitchen area. If one were to look Lin in the face they would see someone who was full of worry and fear. Lin was worried about what her father would do if he found out about the horrific joke the girl was playing on her. She was fearful that the girl just might do something to harm her or one the other customers. Lin had to admit Meushi was right about one thing the wings were real. Lin wondered just what the girl really was.

With a worried sigh Lin responded to the question Meushi had asked her, "The paper says it's been four ships this month. Josh has been very critical of Mr. Hastings because his company contracted all the missing ships."

Lin always spoke highly of the newspaper reporter who grew up on the island. During his last two years of high school and the first two summers during college Josh Collins had worked as a busboy for her father. During that time Lin looked up to the slightly older man and admired him for what he accomplished in life.

(From Aylin's perspective here)

Aylin watched as the wait staff member went over to the Zurg with a look of dread on her face. She was certain the young woman didn't believe or want to believe what she was told from the body language. She kept looking back at Aylin with dread in her eyes before glancing back towards the kitchen. Aylin wondered what it was about the kitchen that the young woman found so important.

"Another case of mistaken age added in with not believing the outsider I guess," Aylin softly surmised to herself aloud as she continued to scan the room.

(As Denwale)

Just Then the door of the place swung open. A man staggered in with a odd expression on his face. The eaters looked up and could tell at once which Denwale was present. His normally tidy look was anything but that. His button up shirt was unbutton down by 5 buttons showing off some of his freckles on his chest. His long hair, normally tied back in a long ponytail was undone and rather messy looking. But to really prove what state he was in. His glasses were missing. "DENWALE!" some of the eaters called out to him. He blinked and looked around. "Yes I suppose I am. Where am I now?" He looked around and then gave them a wave. "And I salute you and your meals. May the gods grate all your wishes.... wait where am I?" He looked around once more and then his eyes landed on Lin. She hadn't seen him yet it seemed but he could tell by her body she was upset. His eyes widen and he moved, slowly but rather surely and determined towards her.

(as Meushi)
"Four?!" Meushi almost shouted. She frown. She downed her broth rather quickly and placed the bowl back on the table. "Four..." She mumbled. Four ships had gone missing from the port in one month alone? That was...that was really not right. She looked up at Lin. Not wanting to add to her worry but she decided to tell her anyway. "I've been hearing rumors...at other places. Mostly on the ground you know. They've been saying odd things have been happening down there. I'm not sure really. Things disappearing. People missing. And now ships up here are starting to go missing too." She rubbed her chin in thought. Was this all connected to each other? She had been paging the rumors down below to the Animation. An dthe few ships up here to pirates....just bad timing for everything...right? She looked up as the crowd cheered and her eyes landed on an interesting sight. "Here comes some fun." Meushi grinned as she wiggled her eyes at Lin.

(as Denwale)
She was upset. He could see it. He could FEEL it. Lin was upset by something. He blinked trying to focus on the thing she was talking to. Oh the pickle thing was back. What was her name? Memoo? Momo? Mewashi? Damn his clouded mind....well that was beside the point. Lin was upset and Denwale did NOT like an upset Lin. Her frown put an pressure on his chest and her tears alone caused his heart break over and over again. He was standing in front of her now. Wait when did he move over to her? He looked at her slightly confused and then behind him as if he was looking for something. Oh. He was at Fong's Kitchen. So he was at the bottom of the port. He frown. The port. Another ship was missing. He looked back at Lin quickly. She was upset. She knew. She knew what had happend. And before he could truly think out what he was about to do, he wrapped his arms around her and held her close. "It's true....the bell rung...." He spoke calmly.

(as Meushi)

Meushi watched the town drunk move towards them. She raised a hairless brow and couldn't help but smirk just a little. She didn't know much about him, but from what she knew. He was the only drunk that people WANTED to be drunk. Humans were SO weird. She watched he moved to Lin, looking around confused until he began hugging her. SHe looked at the two and bit her lower beak lip to keep from laughing. "Well, I can say today has been VERY interesting..."

(Lin's reaction to Denwale)

Lin stiffened when she felt the arm go around her and pull her close. Only one man on Denia dared to get close to Lin, Denwale. From the smell of his breath Denwale appeared to be drunk yet again. In their childhood Lin found Denwale to be the type of person one could always go to when they needed to talk out their problems. Then they hit puberty, and while all of their friends gained confidence and found their place in the world Denwale retreated socially and became very awkward around people other than Lin. Denwale had always been a bit shy as a child but Lin thought he would eventually grow out of it when he found friends. That was not the case until the first time he got drunk on a dare from their friends. That was when the Denwale before her showed up and the whole town wanted him to always be drunk. Lin didn't like this Denwale. She preferred the Denwale of their childhood.

The words Denwale spoke echoed in her ears causing Lin to cry softly. It was true. It wasn't a cruel prank by a winged child with very pale skin. Captain Donovan and the Red Barron were gone. The island had lost one of its own. "Father will be very upset when he finds out," Lin commented as she sobbed into Denwale's shirt.

(Aylin's observance of the situation)

Aylin watched as the newcomer stumbled into the diner. It was the drunk who had been making passes at random men from the Red Lion. She watched as he questioned several times why he was there and how he got there before going over to the young woman in the red dress and wrapping his arm around her. From their close body language Aylin could tell they knew each other very well and were at the very least friends. It wasn't long before the woman in red began crying into the shirt of the drunken man.

"Now she believes what I told her. Now she knows another ship is gone," Aylin observed to herself.

"...?!" Penn had been gazing at something rather emptily (it was the wall, methinks). "Sin, didja get your order already and why are you without pants." Penn looked around, to assess the situation and see what could have led to this. Well, there was the alien again, and the waitress and they were talking about disappearing ships.

...Disappearing ships?

He pressed his finger to his lips and shushed Penn. “I’m trying to listen to what they’re saying, keep quiet for a bit.” At this point, the random man named Denwale was consoling the waitress as she began to cry into his shirt. That man seemed drunk, period. Yet in his drunken haze he actually was being quite kind to the waitress; they must know each other. “Oh hmm.”

Sinsario moved his head and caught sight of a winged girl, who in turn was staring at the green one’s table. “Er…the winged girl gave the waitress the news about a fourth ship disappearing who in turn told the gree- just where the hell have you been Penn?” he practically yelled in confusion as he remembered
Penn's odd behavior“Seriously, we made a commotion; I stripped down to my skivvies! And you…stared at the wall the whole time! What’s up with that?”
PostPosted: Wed Jun 09, 2010 12:36 pm

"Uh... at times... I will lose myself to... other places; Time tends to hate my guts. But to talk about more current events," Penn cleared her throat and whispered, "you think it's because of 'them' that the ship disappeared? Or because of something entirely different? We could have a lead to where your tree thief went..."

And again Penn looked around, noticing a pixie in the dining area. Or rather, she looked like a pixie. Wasn't every day you saw one, not even at the Cove. She turned back to look at Sinsario and asked, "Why did you strip down to your skivvies, anyways?"

(as Denwale)

He stiffen only slightly and then tighten his grip on Lin. Denwale may have been drunk, but he was sober enough to know how seriously this was. For once though, he was rather grateful to being in a drunk state. For if no drink was inside him he had no idea how he would react to Lin's tears. His heart broke but he was strong to give her a shoulder to cry one. If he was sober, would he just awkwardly pat her back and then leave? Damn his cowardly ways! "Lin I..." And he stopped at that. What could he say? The captain had been a friend to her family and father and more lives were now gone. He then hiccuped and hoped he hadn't made the mood more foul.

(as Meushi)

Meushi had seen Lin cry before. He was an emotion woman, but she had never seen her cry like this. She had no idea what to say or do. Thank god for the drunk! Meushi was never good in moments like this. Always did something to awkward and inappropriate, such as make a joke that didn't fit the mood or put her foot in her mouth. THe other diners were now noticing her crying as well and hush whispers began to move about. The drunk man seemed to have noticed and pulled back slightly from Lin. Not letting her go, he spoke out rather loudly. "My friends...*hiccup*..pardon...the bell was wrung." A loud gasp came from the diners and Meushi could only watch in wonder at the reactions of the people around her. Some began to sob, others shouting, some scolded but said nothing. A few even began to pray. "Whoa..." Meushi mumbled.

(as Denwale again)
He watched his friends and town mates react to his words. He hiccuped again and then looked down at Lin. He stroked the back of her head and then towards the kicthen. "DO you *hiccup* want me to tell him?"

And now the waitress was crying. It seemed that whoever was lost along with the ship had known the waitress -or she had known them, or maybe that's not the case at all- and she cried. Penn felt something else in her stomach, more like it was doing backflips.

It was pity. To lose someone like that... she now felt a bit of familiarity between herself and the waitress.

(Lin's response to Denwale with a mix of Li Fong)

Lin was grateful for Denwale showing up. Drunk or not the comforting arms of a friend was needed in times like this. Amy and Janet along with the rest of the people in the diner were in stunned silence. Some of the more faith driven customers were praying to the gods for the souls of the lost air ship crews. It really hit the town hard when another ship was lost and this was no exception. Wiping the tears from her eyes with the back of her hand Lin looked up at her drunken friend. She knew by now her father would be out of the kitchen. She knew there would be no need to tell him. She knew at any moment she would hear the sound of his voice cursing the gods to high heavens in their native tongue.

"I don't think you'll have to," Lin informed Denwale.

"A curse upon the wind god and Hastings for letting Donovan to take that run," Li Fong said in his native language a moment later.

Anyone inside the diner would only have been able to make out Hastings and Donovan. Regulars to the diner knew Captain Donovan and Li Fong got into long discussions about town issues and philosophy. The back and forth the older men would have as Donovan would eat a big bowl of shiitake mushroom and tofu laden noodles became legendary. The two men had been, for the longest time, locked into a debate about philosophy and politics that had lasted for years.

"I don't think Hastings was to blame this time young man," A voice called out to the diner.

Lin's attention was taken away from her father to the sound of the voice. It had come from the girl who didn't follow proper diner procedure and sat herself down. She was standing up near the table she had chosen, arms crossed, starring down the diner and its patrons. In one movement the girl didn't look like a girl anymore. Lin saw before her a woman with more experience in her eyes than her father held in his own.

(Everything from Aylin's perspective)

"I don't think Hastings was to blame this time young man," Aylin called out to the dinner and more importantly to the cursing man of foreign birth.

Of course she knew what he was saying. She didn't know everything but she had been around people from his land enough to pick up the basics. She was very rusty when it came to speaking his language but she knew enough to know what was going on. Aylin waited for what she said to sink in. Either the man would rush her to demand what kind of accusations she was making against Captain Donovan or he would just stand there stunned as he tried to take in what she had said. The ability to go from looking as though she were a mere teen to her true age and experience had been quite successful because the wait staff member was now looking at her as though she knew Aylin wasn't a child but a woman who had seen and experienced far too much in her life.

"Come on one of you any one of you confront me I dare you," Aylin challenged softly aloud to herself.

Penn looked at the girl- ...no, she looked more like a woman, like a captain, and a sense of intrigue tickled her fancy. This pixie was calling for a challenge. What kind of challenge it was, Penn would have to inquire it for.

She whispered to her zombified crewmate, "Sin... we may have our lead as to where they are... if she knows about them. If she knows anything about the pirates, I'll need to do everything in my power to extract that information".

The demon stood up to look down the pixie's eyes, stone cold gray meeting a gray-violet hybrid. She then remembered that she was dressed in that "casual" outfit of hers, and may not be taken seriously. Still, her pride would not let her sit now.

"You say that this Hastings man wasn't responsible for the disappearance of the airship. Do you, then, know anything about airship pirates?"

Aylin had expected the older looking man with the long thin mustache, the drunken man, the waitress, or the Zurg to confront her first. She knew the drunken man knew she spoke the truth as he had been in the Red Lion when the kid burst in and said Donovan had been boasting about taking on the Devil's Run. Would he remember that she spoke the truth was the current question running through her head. However, that question was quickly pushed aside when a woman with horns and pointed ears began to stare her down demanding to know what information she had on the missing ships. She wanted to know what Aylin knew about the air pirates.

Casually and with little attention to her hands Aylin moved a hand to the hilt of her sword. She didn't expect there to be a fight but she wasn't about to be unprepared if the demon-like woman made any kind of move at her. Her soft gray eyes remained hard as she looked directly into the face of the one who made the first move on her.

"Hastings has no involvement with this ship that went missing. According to the kid that gave us the news in the Red Lion Donovan decided to conquer the Devil's Run on his own. The other four ships, those were all hired by Hastings Air," Aylin replied letting everyone in the dinner hear what she had to say.

Aylin then tightened her gaze on the woman and continued to speak to her in a hushed tone to keep what she had to say between them, "As for the pirates, that's something I intend to find out. They might be involved and they might not. The military arm of the alliance wants answers and I intend to get them. Young lady Hastings knows something and this town won't be able to handle it if he's doing this intentionally."

"Devil's Run, you say..." Penn rubbed her chin, but still she kept her eyes on the pixie captain. Her face said 'calm' but her eyes said 'on fire'. "Heh, I should probably pick up a book on that..." She let go a small, thin snicker, the kind you'd hear more from a trickster than from an airship captain. But when you're both, you have certain priveliges.

Noticing that the captain had used a lowered voice concerning pirates, Penn decided to lower hers as well. "I'm looking for answers too. Maybe not the same kind of answers you're trying to find, djikeh, but I assure you that I'd rather not make enemies looking for the same goal." She had said that odd word in something close to a rasping voice or a growl, a carryover from her demonic tongue.

Penn turned around and, much like her own body, her personality had taken a complete 180. A big grin was plastered on her face, and one of her eyes closed shut. She sat down and told Sin, "With that business settled, I'd really like to get some dinner~"

(as Meushi)

Had Meushi been drinking anything, she would have spit it all out. "DEVIL'S RUN?! And you humans call us zurgs weird!" She huffed. "I am be crazy but even I don't have the antennas big enough to do THAT place." She looked at the demon woman and dead guy and stood up on her chair. At least she was slightly taller. "ALRIGHT." She said firmly as she eyed the people in the diner. "I'm sorry for the lost. I really am. But what the HELL is going on?" She eyed the pixie, then the humans next to her, then the demon lady and dead guy and then back at everyone again. "Ships disappearing, people missing down below, pirates roaming just a little too freely for my taste and weird crap all around is happening. I want answers and SOMEONE better start talking or I'm....I'm..I'M GONNA START SINGING!!!"

(as Denwale)
He listen to Mr. Fong curse, having no idea what he had said. "We're all upset just as you are Mr. Fong but please there are ladies *hiccup* present..." He spoke in Mr. Fong's native tongue, though he had no clue that he was actually even doing it. The child spoke. Oh wait, that''s the pixie from the tavern. What was she saying? Something''s going on? Well of course something was going on. There was always something going on. Wasn't that life? The odd woman was now talking to the pixie...Oh that's a demon..or is it a cow...she has horns...No demon. Yes very much a demon. Devil's Run...that's not good. Horrible name. Who would want to vacation there? No wait, that's that weird place by Deadman's Pass...that was also a horrible name. The little pickle was now yelling at everyone. Missing people..pirates...wanting info...singing. Wait Singing? Singing wasn't bad. Singing was fine. Unless the green thing sang. The pickle thing singing was not good...Little Pickle thing singing...singing..who was about to sing? Pickle thing...wait....OH GOD!! Denwale sobered rather quickly. "FOR THE LOVE OF ALL GAIA AND THE MOTHER TREE SOMEONE GIVE MEUSHI INFORMATION!!!!"
