"You lose!"
Keiko scowled at Great-Uncle Iroh. He was getting annoying in his old age. True, he'd taught her how to play pai cho, but he never missed an opportunity to beat her.
She looked outside. The clouds got darker and thunder rumbled in the distance. Is it time for my training to begin?
"Uncle, I think there's some roast duck left over from this morning."
The old man moved so fast, he could've passed for an Airbender at that moment. Taking control of the momentary distraction, Keiko slipped outside. She shed the heavy kimono she wore, standing in a silk shirt and pants. Therain began to fall.
"I'm ready to learn, sifu."

Name: Jin Ae(jin eh)
Age: 34(present time)
Element: Water(healer/fighter mainly healer)
Background Info: Jin Ae is a prodigy healer and, after Aang and the others left the North Pole twenty years ago, was one of the women who, following Katara's example, formed a small rebellion for their right to learn to fight. They won. She learned to use waterbending for fighting, but swore to use it only to protect and defend. On one of Katara's visits to see Master Paku, Jin Ae ran into Katara, and after a series of strange and hilarious events(that's another story), became good friends. Jin Ae often visites Aang and Katara when she's not traveling from place to place healing those who need her.

Jin Ae relaxed on the ground enjoying the feel of the breeze the blew through the temple. How long has it been since I last was this relaxed? weeks? a month? she wondered. She was content just to lay there, especially after stopping the epidemic that hit Omashu. It was the worst thing Jin had seen. Extremely high fevers and vomiting. It wouldn't have been so bad if the patients she and the other Healers had cured didn't come back sick again with even more people that were ill. If it hadn't been for the boy named Cho, they probably wouldn't have figured out it was the near by water source that made the people ill.
Her tranquil mode was tainted by the thought of it. WHY hadn't anyone checked the water? They could have AVOIDED the whole mess!!! she fumed. Cho had told her that an old rusty fire nation tank sat right next to the water, not desposed of, which gave all the Healers the answer to why everyone was sick: rust and, possibly lead, poisoned the water.
Jin sighed. Well, the whole thing is over with. No use dwelling on it. she thought. It was then, that she heard the rumbling of thunder.
She opened her eyes, sat up, and looked around. There were dark clouds surrounding the base of the temple. Ominous looking, even from above. I could have swore it was clear a moment ago. Had I fallen asleep? but she knewn that was wrong. A chill went down her spine and the hairs on the back of her neck stood on end. Jin didn't like the feeling of this. Something definitely was wrong.

"Right on time," nodded Koin in approval. The rain had long since stopped bothering her. "Now, you remember my first demonstration of your unbidden power yes? What I did," she pulled Keiko's wrists into view, "Was tap into the static stream in your blood. I learned a long time ago that all things on this Earth have a spark, called static, which keeps our blood running and energized. Our first exercise will be for you to encourage that spark."
She started to snap her fingers in example, three times until her fingers snapped and crackled with electricity; swirling and fizzing visibly in her pinched fingers. "I must warn you; electricity is never the most comforting of elements. But with practice, the slight sting goes away. Try snapping your finger...the friction encourages the static to build up and solidify in your hands. And after that-" She swung around fiercely, and jammed her electrified fingers into the rock wall. When the static faded, her fingers pulled out of a clean, perfectly formed hole, barely marred with burning.
"It becomes as lethal as a knife. Let's see you try it."

Keiko followed Koina's example and snapped her fingers. But on the third snap, a blast of electricity exploded in her face and knocked her to the ground. "AUGH!"
Keiko winced as she stood up, wiping the streams of blood issuing from the tips of her fingers. "That wasn't as easy as it looked."

"Not so hard," Koina instructed, "You need an appropriate amount of force...too much will shock you right back, and too little won't be enough to penetrate so much as a sand dune." She merely nodded patiently. "Try it softly at first, then build it up gradually. I find that if you tilt your fingers more to the tips," she showed Keiko, her nails clicking together, "It tends to sharpen and purify that energy. But don't worry...even a master stumbles over their own techniques every once and a while."

Silently, Jin Ae climbed down the moutain. She had decided to see what was happening before telling Aang, Katara, and the others.
She stopped when she broke thought the clouds and looked around for a place to rest. Spying a ledge, she slowly made her way toward it. Once she reached it, Jin layed as flat as she could and peeked over the edge.
Below the clouds, it was raining. She peered though the rain. Off to one side far below, at the base of the mountain, were two figures. From this distance, Jin could bearly make them out.
Lightning flashed, but it didn't come for the sky as it should have. It came from one of the figures.
A Lightningbender!
I need to get closer. Jin Ae though. Carefully climbing off the ledge, she made her way down as silently as possible, toward the two people below...

Koina felt the disturbance. There was an extra bolt of faint static in the area, and it came from an uninvited human. The faint crackle, unheard by all ears save for Koina's, buzzed right by the thicket of trees aligned on the mountainside...
With a quick spin she shot out a bolt, aimed for the rock the stranger was trying to climb down from. It blasted off, dropping the imposing woman to the ledge across from their own. Koina's fingers smoked from the speed and accuracy, but her eyes and voiced were glacial as she stared down the stranger with the same terrifying look she gave to stubborn underlings.
"The next time you attempt a foolish stunt like that," she said coldly, her two fingers pointed directly at her, "The lightning will be aimed at your head."

Keiko ran towards the stranger, ignoring Koina's disapproving glare. She jumped to the opposite ledge, kicking off from the ground using the blue fire Koina had taught her to use.
The woman stirred as Keiko knelt by her. "Are you okay?"

Jin Ae layed still on the ground for a moment. Her ears rang loudly from the bolt.
"I'm fine." she said to Keiko. Which was partly true. I little battered from the fall but okay. Although on the inside she was quaking under the glare of this strange woman. She was having a hard time making herself look calm.
Jin turned her gaze on Keiko.
"What are you doing with this woman, Keiko!?" she said incredulously.

"I'm," Koina said imperiously, looming over the shorter Jin Ae, "Her teacher. And I don't remember signing you on as a student, so get moving."
She turned to Keiko, albeit much calmer than before. "Keiko, we need to focus on your technique now."

Jin Ae stood up, her anger kindle against this woman.
She straightened up and put the same calm, patient expression on her face as she wore when she worked. "I will leave when I am told what is going on." Jin said smoothly. "Keiko, does your father know your learning from... may I ask your name?" she raised a questioning brow at the woman.
So the habits I learned as a healer come in handy for more than just healing. she thought dryly

"None of your business little one," Koina scoffed, "This isn't a flimsy practice like water-bending where everything's dainty and sweet. These are master techniques, meant for the royal family only. Well..." she gave Keiko's head a fond pat, "The worthy ones at least."

Ha! waterbending? sweet? she smirked internally. Jin Ae didn't miss the dismisal, the implication that this woman was royalty, nor the remark about Jin's age.
Jin looked at her clothes. She wore clothes of fine silk and a gold pendant around her neck. Clothes one of noble birth would wear, or someone with lots of money. The woman looked like she was in her twentys.
Now why would someone her age, call me a child? Jin stored that though away for later evaluation.
Jin didn't like the way she looked at Keiko. In a possesive way and, in her case, that wasn't a good thing.
This woman is reminds me of a two-headed viper. she thought disstainfully.
Jin Ae let nothing of what she was thinking show on her face. She waited patiently, with no intention of leaving.

Keiko looked back and forth between the 2 women, wondering who was in the right. Jin Ae had always been a close friend, but she didn't understand how badly she needed to learn from Koina, with or without her father's permission.
But Koina wasn't helping the situation either. She kept looking at Keiko as if she was just a pawn in some big match. She would need to remind Koina that she wasn't a helpless little girl who obeyed her every command.
"Jin Ae, go away. This doesn't concern you."
When the waterbender refused to move, Keiko snapped her fingers 3 times. On the third snap, a burst of lightning shot from her fingers and hit Jin Ae square in the chest. She fell from the ledge. Keiko turned, ignoring Koina's satisfied smirk and the guilt welling in her heart. What have I done?
