Hurry hurry Tie! The others were getting a move on it, touching eggs quicker and some even exiting the sands already, so Tie bit her lip and moved on, some hands double-touching eggs in one go. It gave her very mixed signals, but the eggs that has stronger personalities seeped through.
The Inner Light egg gave her a sense of peace as she touched it, almost welcoming her to slow down and just stay at its side. It was calm and serene, so very welcoming, and her mind was almost completely distract from the fact that her other hand was resting on a different shell. It was only when a feeling of uneasiness, of general unhappiness started to push over her mind, that she looked down.
The Gray Speckled egg was invading her thoughts with a feeling of negativity, and she pulled her hand back quickly. She didn't like how unhappy this egg had felt and it left a frown on her face, her small brow wrinkling with discontent. Tie couldn't deal with something that was so unhappy, something that probably couldn't ever want to be happy. She didn't want that! Tie didn't want to have to make someone else happy! She needed to move on to another egg, and she did so quickly in order to clear her mind.
But no, no! This egg, the Red Slash, was no better! Instead of feeling unhappy all she got was anger, and she frowned deeper with a look of sadness on her face as she kept touching. Why was it so unhappy? The Timid Shepherd just couldn't understand something like this and so she shook her head, determined to move on. Anger and unhappiness were things she didn't want, so it was in her best interest to keep going. Her eyes fell on a beautiful egg, one that just called for her to touch it.
It was the Event Horizon egg, and that same lovely feeling of not being angry washed over the girl. It was a relief to touch something that had a personality that wasn't so...unhappy, but it certain held something haughty to it. She couldn't really blame it, Tie thought the egg very pretty anyway, and she smiled despite herself. This dragonet would probably feel just as vain out of the shell as it did in it, and Tie wondered how that would all go over. . . .

From the first egg he touched, Soldekai put one hand on each of its neighbors, the Abstract Bowtie and the New Day. Both seemed like such good-natured creatures! Albeit in different ways - the first was full of self-confidence, always a good sign, whereas its sunrise-looking sibling was more sweet. Still, both eggs gave off a generally bright, friendly attitude. Maybe this was a good sign for the temperament of the clutch as a whole?
That good first impression wavered a little as he (reluctantly) left the presence of the nice trio and meandered over towards the Red Slash egg. Ouch. That wasn't a nice feeling... But still, he resisted the urge to draw his hand back. Dragons weren't naturally vicious creatures. Nor were they mindless beasts; they were just as rational as any human, with just as much range of emotion. If this one was angry or aggressive... It had a reason. Wouldn't it be better to listen and try to understand, rather than reinforce the anger by recoiling? Not that he could do much to an unhatched dragonet. Reluctantly he moved on, hoping that the Red Slash would find its partner without incident.
The next one, the Grey Speckled, also seemed unhappy. However, the source of this one's unhappiness seemed to be the Red Slash egg he'd just touched. Were the dragonets inside the eggs already fighting? He'd heard that they could get vague mental impressions inside the shell... Well, that was the purpose of the Touching, wasn't it? To acquaint the Candidates with the eggs, and to acquaint the eggs with the Candidates. That gave everyone time to meet one another, so that Hatching wouldn't be such a chaotic experience. But perhaps the unhatched dragons could also form opinions about each other. Well, either way, the speckled egg was cross about something. It felt more like disapproval than real wrath, though. A dragon with a strong code of conduct, perhaps.
After the warring two, the Inner Light egg was a relief, a return to the friendliness he'd seen at the beginning. This one was bigger, though... Perhaps a brown. He hoped a brown. Not all dragons cared about colors, but the friendly trio up front were almost certainly all blues and greens, and bigger dragons overly concerned with rank might ignore them. It'd be a bit harder to ignore the urging of a brown to calm down. Then again, if the dragons were really intent on squabbling, nothing short of a gold would stop them.
Soldekai gave the Inner Light egg one final pat, wishing it good luck in stopping the fight, as it seemed to be trying to do. Two other clusters of eggs left... One containing the gold, which he didn't intend to touch, in case he accidentally broke some kind of Weyr etiquette by doing so. Should he leave those eggs for last? Or continue in his vaguely clockwise motion around the sands?

Arelly felt her heart flutter as she stood before the last group of eggs, fingers twining together and coming free in her anticipation. Well, best not to linger, Arelly, this is the last group!
The Event Horizon egg was the first she reached for, enticed by the different shades of blue. Blue was such a soothing color, she thought, but this egg had a feeling that couldn't be described as soothing, really. The little one was definitely proud of something. Among the larger eggs, Arelly almost felt a kindred spirit - it wanted so hard to be seen, but it was proud all the same. Good luck, she wished it, before moving onto the next egg.
The Royal Bands egg gave her a boost of confidence when her fingers grazed it. The way it leaned to the side almost led her to think that it was avoiding the egg next to it, but the sense she got from it was completely opposite. Good for you! There's no shame in working from the wings! And indeed there wasn't. As long as the job got done, that was the important thing, right?
Things felt a little different when she approached the Half and Half egg. This one was also proud, like the Event Horizon egg had been, but she didn't feel as keenly for this one. The touch was brief, and Arelly gave it a parting smile. You will make someone very happy, little one. It felt like the right thing to think for this egg.
Finally, she approached the largest egg by far, the Bold n' Gold egg. The girl felt a little more apprehension about this egg.. it was so large and intimidating. It seemed to Arelly that this last batch had been particularly prideful; they'd definitely be a batch to be reckoned with. But no, no, she couldn't linger. Her small palm was pressed to the surface, and just as she had earlier, she nearly pulled it back suddenly. What was the cause for this irritation? There were so many grumpy eggs in this batch, as well. However, this being the final egg, she thought to give it a bit of parting encouragement. Nobody should come into the world feeling like that! I hope you figure out what's bothering you. Cheer up!
At last, her work was done. As others before her had, Arelly straightened herself up and moved between the eggs to exit the Sands until the Hatching began. She made sure to bow to the Queen on her way out. Thank you very much for this opportunity. Her insides were twisted in a mix of anticipation and nerves, but she kept this in check until she was off the sands and having to once again intertwine her fingers together to keep them from drumming. Exciting, so so exciting! Even if she didn't Impress, she would have more chances, certainly.
Now, it was time to wait.

The Orange Splotch egg ended up being his next stop. And he liked the feel of this one! An egg that was going places... well, metaphorically speaking. Until it hatched, it wouldn't be literally going anywhere. But still, he lingered by this egg, sharing in its excitement. A dragon that was as eager to meet them as they were to meet it... Well, of course all dragons aimed to Impress. But this feeling went beyond just desire to hatch and into Big Ideas. He murmured a quiet "good luck" before moving on to the next ones in the line.
He gave a polite touch to the Grapejuice Dip egg, but didn't linger - he got the strange impression that this one was looking for a girl. Well, Soldekai definitely didn't fit in that category, and he wouldn't waste the egg's time with someone who obviously wasn't what it was looking for... Especially since it seemed like he was one of the last remaining on the sands. He had to hurry! Still, he couldn't resist lingering at the Brown Patchy egg. He touched it, then hesitated, and returned for a second touch. Interesting. He couldn't get a good read on this one. But he was definitely sensing a lot of cleverness, and great energy... It sort of reminded him of his brother, in that respect - his younger brother had always been the brains of the operation, hence why he'd been taken by the Harper Hall. Another one he found himself liking... Well, it would only be rude of him to start ruling out eggs before they were even hatched, with the exception of those that were clearly looking for someone else, like the gold.
Oh, but he was supposed to be hurrying! The Purple Spotted egg was next. This one seemed distracted, though. Whatever had its attention, it wasn't its fellow siblings... It was pointed off away from them, as if paying attention to something else. Maybe it was watching everyone leave the sands? Only a few more eggs to go, and then he'd be joining them.

It was quick, and Tie needed to rush through the rest of her touching. She (sadly) skimmed over the rest of the eggs with hardly a touch, the end of the touching coming faster than she thought it would. While she hadn't wanted to rush there wasn't much of any options left for her, and she finished up all the eggs in the front before heading to the back.
The two blue ones met her hands with no feeling, and Tie inwardly apologized to them for not being so social. The other eggs had gotten similar thoughts, and it was with a final touch that she placed her hands on the large golden egg.
The Bold n' Gold egg gave her an odd feeling of haughtiness, of being super proud and driven, and that made the Timid Shepherd through her mind back to two other eggs she'd felt earlier. Pride and arrogance seemed to be a common factor amongst many of these eggs, but was that really such a wrong thing? No, not really a problem at all. This was her Weyr after all, and Tie loved when there were dragons in it to make it better.
Pulling her hands free, not thinking on anything else, Tie started towards the entrance of the sands again, ready to exit. She paused in front of the Golden Queen and bowed herself deeply, looking up and opening her mouth to speak.
"T...th...thank you. I...so...grateful. Yes."
Well, that was a waste of time. The Shepherd shook her head and started out, thinking she may have done more harm than good in speaking like that at the end. Oh well.

The last three... Soldekai would leave the gold egg where it lay. He offered the queen one more conciliatory bow before moving in closer. No need to upset her more than necessary.
The smallest egg caught his eye first; despite its small size, the Event Horizon egg seemed to be desperately keen on being seen. He offered it a stroke, to let it know that it wasn't being ignored... But somehow, he wasn't sure that a vain dragon was for him. Soldekai wasn't too keen on walking around looking like a slob, sure, but he didn't have any need to be the center of attention either. Still, even if he did get a high-maintenance dragon, he'd do his best. All dragons needed work -- they had to be cared for, same as any creature. Bathing, oiling, feeding, attending to the flight harness... Whether he got a vain and preening dragon or a slovenly one, he intended to put in as much effort as he could.
The Half and Half egg was the next to get his attention... Oh, this one was quite the prince. There was a sense of easy nobility about this one... Not the aggressive, dominant kind, but simply an easy confidence in itself. A bronze for sure, Soldekai thought. Whoever got this egg would be a lucky guy. Probably not for him, though... Expecting to Impress bronze was all well and good, but he was just hoping to get the best dragon for him, regardless of color.
And the last one... Oh, shards, why had he lingered so long on the others? Why hadn't he touched this one first? The warm, supporting feeling he was getting from the egg was infectious, and it flowed through his mind, buoying his spirits. It was like floating in the ocean, the water making you feel almost weightless. He wanted to stay here, with his hands on the Royal Bands egg, but he couldn't. Reluctantly, his fingers parted contact with the striped shell.
With one last "thank you" to the clutch's golden mother, he hurried off after the last few stragglers, as quick as he could go.

Still keeping her hand comfortably on the Royal Bands egg, Adriaetta gave the rest of the clutch a pouting sort of once over. Did she really have to touch all the eggs? She didn't want to meet another angry one, the sands were hot, and she mostly didn't like the shivering pressure of emotions against her own. She much preferred to feel things without interference, thank you very much.
But, If she didn't touch them, there went her dragon. There went going back to the hold triumphant, and back came boredom. She did so hate being bored. She sighed, a sharp little huff of air, then squared her shoulders preparing to face the day, err, eggs.
She stepped up to the cluster of four, in front of her, placing her hands on two at a time, one for her left and one for her right. She was going to get this over with fast, before the sweat on her neck completely ruined her hair. While the Orange Art Splotch Egg got only a cursory touch, she allowed the Grapejuice Dip an extra pat, appreciating the sense that it liked having her around. The Purple Spotted Egg and The Brown Patchy Egg she touched quickly, jumping a bit as the Brown Patchy Egg wiggled. Were they supposed to do that? It'd be so lovely if they started hatching now! Think of the chores they'd miss.
But, no. And now she could move on, somewhat cautiously, to the Inner Light Egg and Gray Speckle Egg. Almost as soon as she'd touched them, she began to frown, giving the Gray Speckle Egg a moderately disapproving look. "Well, you'll be no fun with an attitude like that," she murmured to herself. "My dragon isn't much going to like you, I think."
Onward to the last three, and then she was free from the sands and the heat and th odd flurries of emotion. At least the last three were all pleasant to examine, and the Teal Swirl in particular earned one of her warmer smiles. Fun was something she could always agree with.
Yet, having completed her rounds and earned the right to leave the sands, the feeling she was left with was an unsettling one. She had thought to know, to touch her egg and feel that jolt of connection. This had only been... otherness. For a breath, her easy assurance was shaken. But for no longer than that. She was going to impress a dragon. Of course she was. What sort of story would it be if she didn't?
