He could hardly believe now that he was holding her so tightly, that all this had happened in such a short space of time. He had started to drift away, like someone trapped beyond the event horizon in a black hole; time had no meaning outside his arms, outside her warmth. All the universe was just holding her against his torso and feeling a peace he hardly ever knew fill him utterly. He couldn't move away from her if he wanted to; he wasn't even sure someone could pull them apart with any force.
I might be getting carried away, but I think there's something here. I want there to be something here so bad... He hadn't even noticed the water making their skin beneath their fur wrinkle. He opened one eye and looked down at the water, which was now warming up (marginally) from the warmth of the sun. It was now nearly midday, he estimated; they'd been there quite some time. With a laugh that touched on embarrassment, Sher shifted Elysia into his arms and stood up out of the water. "Come on then," he said with a grin. "Let's go dry ourselves out."
It seemed that by pulling himself a little back into the world, much of the rest of him was trying to pull back into the world. He was hungry, for one thing, and a little tired from a restless night. That was alright; that was stuff he could deal with. What he didn't like, however, was the little voice at the back of his head reminding him of his job. He forced that back with a will by nuzzling Elysia and carrying her out into the sun, back on shore towards, but not all the way to, the trees.
This is my time to be with her, not time to be worrying about other people! he scolded himself.

Elysia opened her mouth to speak the second he lifted them out of the water, her bright eyes opening to fix on his face. With a startled squeak, she clung to him, burying her face in his fur. She knew he wouldn't drop her--how could he when she was so small?--but that didn't ease her mind. Ironic, that she longed to have wings like her family, but she got uneasy when her feet left the ground. Stifling a bitter laugh at herself, she risked a peek up, "I'm not too heavy am I?"
....That was a stupid question. Her ears flickered back, swiveling around to catch the soft rumble of her stomach. Her blush raged back to life and she turned her head. "S-Sorry. I didn't eat much last night, and I guess it's catching up to me," she admitted, glancing up at the sky for an estimate on the time. Almost midday? Really? ...Wow. Those bright scarlet orbs floated up again, focusing on Sher's face--she saw more of the bottom of his jaws than anything, though. I guess I was just having so much fun I didn't notice. A smile crept across her lips, adding a certain brightness to her darkly furred face.
Outside of the water, the sunshine was warm. The soft breeze that swirled around them and lapped at the lake's surface was cool. Considering the conditions, they should be able to dry quickly, though she hoped not. It was selfish of her, yes, but she wished today would never end. Sighing contentedly, she relaxed into his arms, leaning her head forward just as he nuzzled her. Giggling and blushing once more, she returned the affectionate gesture, smiling brightly up at him.
Briefly, she wondered if he was sacrificing anything more important that he could be doing by spending his time with her. Though she quickly shook that thought off, for fear of it actually being true and him leaving because of it. She twitched her tail, swaying it back and forth below her, before wrapping it around his, closing her eyes as she leaned her head against his chest again.

Sher stroked Elysia's back gently as she squeaked, unconsciously holding her a little tighter. Her words made him chuckle; he wasn't just a student, after all. He did some working out, though not as much as the Spartans at his house. He was certainly strong enough to easily lift her light frame and carry her a few yards. "You're no trouble at all," he murmured back. "And I wouldn't mind even if you were."
The rumbling of her stomach was almost overpowered by the grumbling of his own. Seems like our stomachs both had the same ideas. "It's okay. I didn't have much for breakfast, personally, and I didn't think I'd be out here for so long, so I didn't bring any food," he admitted. "Now that I think about it, I probably should have thought ahead."
Gently, he set her down and sat down next to her, wrapping his tail firmly around her once more. Before long, they'd be warm and dry, though, truth be told, he hardly noticed that he wasn't already warm. "What do you think we should do?" he asked, turning to smile fondly at her.

The steady motion of his paw stroking her back almost put Elysia to sleep, and she was sure, had he not spoken, she would have fallen asleep. Her eyes opened halfway, her head tilting back slightly so she could grin up at him. "Are you trying to tell me I'm too light?" She joked, remembering Amarin raging at her for being so petite. For an average height female, she really was small framed.
Upon his stomach's answering rumbled, she threw back her head and laughed. "How were you supposed to know you'd meet some helpless damsel with a headache and end up being out here for hours, Sher?" She asked, tapping his chest playfully.
As he sat her down--his gentleness surprised her, though she didn't let it show on her face, after all, he'd been surprising her all morning--she smiled, shaking her fur out quickly before he sat down. His tail snaked around her, wrapping her firmly in his grip, but she didn't mind. In fact, she leaned into his shoulder, basking in the warmth of the afternoon sun. Her ear twitched, making her lift her head and face him just as he spoke.
"Hrmm," she thought, trying her best not to get pulled into his smile (social suicide would be eminent, then). She did know of this really quaint Italian restaurant that wasn't too far from here. But... did he like Italian? Or did he only eat alien food? She blinked, filing that away to ask later. "Would you perhaps want to go get something to eat? Since, we both seem to need it," she smiled, leaning in to touch her nose to his before nuzzling his cheek.

"I would love to get something to eat," Sher chuckled. "Do you know any place near there? I don't get out a lot, and I've never been here before." And what a pity he hadn't been here; it was peaceful here, beautiful. Even if Elysia hadn't been here, he still would have seen fit to stay for a while. Now he almost wanted to stay here longer, but it was time to eat, and they hadn't brought any food.
He kept his paw stroking her back even when they'd sat down. The steady motion was unconscious, soothing to him as well. It was reassuring: it meant that he was here. That this wasn't a dream he could wake up from. The warmth from her body, the slight pressure as she leaned against his side, the sweet sound of her breath, all were constant proof of existence, of the presence of a day more full of blessings than Sher could have imagined. He could almost forget the drama that had run through his life, could almost forget the constant conflicts in his family. He felt steady. He felt sure. He felt that he could start placing steps that wouldn't slip the instant he put his weight on them. At last, he felt safe within himself--at least for now.
Might as well take some action, he decided as he returned the nuzzle. His eyes closed in bliss and he took her paw firmly, pulling her up with him as he stood up. He was starting to feel drier now, with the early afternoon sun warming the area around the lake. Maybe even in a few hours the lake would be a little warmer--he doubted it, but he wanted to come back and see. He wanted to keep coming back to this place with Elysia. "Then, maybe, when we've eaten we can come back here?"

"I do know of this cute little Italian restaurant. But what do you like? My housemates drag me around with them despite my habit of being very unapproachable in some eyes, so I know of various places. Name it, and I can, probably, tell you where to get the best," Elysia smiled, thankful that the other females had insisted on getting her out of the house. She had become a rather reclusive young vixen once realizing that Ellie was not her mother.
Shaking herself mentally, she marveled at the fact that that didn't seem to bother her anymore. At least, it didn't bother her now, cuddled up to Sher's side. Her bright eyes focused unequivocally on his face, and she was happy to see that all he showed through his expression was calm. With a delighted purr, she burrowed closer to him. She wished she could stay there, all wrapped up with Sher, basking in the wonderful sunlight. Yes, she realized he had a say in it, as well. From the looks of things, though, she figured he wouldn't mind.
Blushing as he pulled her to her feet, she smiled, lifting her free paw to idly play with her silver and blue bangs. It felt dry, at least the front did. Her fur was still slightly damp, but it wasn't anything a good walk in the sun wouldn't fix. "I'd love to come back," she smiled, her voice cracking and pitching itself a little higher than normal adorably from excitement. "We'll have to come back often, now, won't we? Especially in the winter. It's gorgeous covered in snow and ice."
