Layla was confused, her head spun a little after the tumble, and mistaking Pyros for the creature she leapt at him. She realised her mistake and claimbed off him "Pyros?" she said, confusedly, "i told you to get away, what are you doing here" she said, getting a tiny bit huffy that he'd ignored her, but relieved he was there.

"You were about to be that thing's LUNCH." He said, glancing over his shoulder at the dark forest.
"What was that anyway? It was huge..."
He eyed Layla, and she looked like she was in pain.
"Can you walk? We need to get out of here, it's not safe."
He sniffed the air and kept his ears perked up. He had an idea of what that thing might have been...like he'd seen it before, in a nightmare.

Layla glanced after Pyris, shuddering as she thought of the creature, she's certainly never seen its form properly, "i ...i...i dont know" she said, very unsure of herself, without thinking about it much she got closer to Pyros, seeking comfort, nodding her head slightly in agreement "yes lets get somewhere..... safer" she replied, moving forwards, limping a bit, her side feeling like it was on fire, it hurt alot, but she was determined to walk, "i'll be fine, lets just keep moving" she said, gritting her teeth.

He glared at her for a second, "You call that fine? At this rate we'll be back to the burrow in a few days."
He looked at her again, and then as he had done before swiftly picked her up on his back and began a fast run.
"I know the jostling hurts," he started,"but being eaten will hurt even more."
He chuckled a little bit at his own jest.
Before long they were back at the same burrow, and he nudged her quickly inside.

Layla bit back a sharp comment, knowing that she would struggle on her own, uttering small whimpers as he jostled her. Once back at the burrow she swiftly got off his back, "i WOULD have managed" she said, with a slight frown, closing her eyes for a second "thank you" she whispered, before laying down, too tired and exhausted to even groom the dirt and rubbish out of her fur.

Pyros, now a bit frightened himself of what was lurking outside, piled leaves, vines, and whatever he could find into the doorway- and then tied it as tight as he could.
He double checked his work and then lit a fire in the pit.
"You must be cold," he said softly, laying down opposite of her on the other side of the fire.
He had a joke ready about Layla not having groomed her fur, but swallowed his pride and kept it to himself.
"So where exactly are you from? I mean, you must have some sort of home...right?"

Layla flinched when he mentioned family, she laid her head flat on ehr paws in front of her, "i did have a family once, but i wasn't what they wanted, my brother and sister were, so i left as soon as i could hunt for myself" she said, a tear forming in the conrner of her eye, "i was never good enough" she muttered, shivering, she crept closer to the fire.

"I didn't mean to pry," he said. "You just seem like, I don't know, one of those 'perfect' Shakaiyo. The ones that can do no wrong. Now me? Heh, I'm a bad seed, or so my old man used to say."

Pyros grinned at the thought of his father, and the time they had spent together. Though his father had been gone for some time now, the memories he had of him always managed to make him laugh and smile, if even the slightest bit.

His attention quickly flitted back to Layla, who looked so battered and broken. You must be hungry after all of that. There's one melon left...you take it." he said, nudging it toward her with his nose.

He left it there and waited for her approval, half expecting it to not be good enough, fresh enough, or clean enough.

"So, what do you do? Just wander about sneaking up on others?" he joked. "No hut of your own? No burrow?"

Layla sighed, "i was never good enough, but i try to be" she muttered, mostly to herself, closing her eyes to the memories of her parents, the taunts by her siblings that she was worthless filth.

She snapped out of her thoughts as Pyros mentioned about a melon, it looked a bit squished and overripe and it easily smashed as she batted at it with her paw, she was hungry but too tired to eat very much, but he'd said it was the last one so she foreced herself to eat more than she wanted, leaving the rest for him.

"i didnt sneak" she said sleepily, "and no, i just stay mostly on my own, stay for a little while in one place then move on." she said, not sure why she travelled like she did, "i never felt 'right anywhere before"'

He watched her drift off to sleep, knowing that the melon wasn't all that good...but in all honesty he was too skittish to go out until the sun came up.
"Sorry about the stale fruit," he said..."I'm just, eh, I think I should stay here and make sure you're safe. Heh."
He knew he was a little transparent but she was clearly too tired to care.
Pyros cleared his throat softly, and then gently brushed off some of the dirt that was scattered over her fur.
"Well think about staying here, I mean...until you're well. Just sleep on it."
He curled up next to the fire and closed his eyes, briefly perking up his ears to make sure all was quiet. He then rested his head forward on his paws and drifted off, thinking of how he was going to gather fresh fruit int the morning.

Layla was so tired she was asleep almost while she was still chewing, she didnt hear Pyros, nor did she feel him brush dirt off her fur, her dreams were .. troubled however because of ehr talk of her family before sleep.

Several hours later she woke, the fire had gone out and she was cold, but small streaks of sun could be seen though the lattice of leaves, vines and whatnot that Pyros had put in front of the entrance, she got up and stretched quietly, suppressing a hiss of pain as she forgot about her injured ribs, tiptoeing to the entrance she tried to open it without waking Pyros, remenants of her dream filtering through into her thinking

*Always a dissapointment... never be good enough ..... usless... worthless....should never have been born*

She sighed, not knowing the knots to be able to untie the vines, she sat and sobbed, still trying not to wake Pyros, she'd caused him enough trouble, she wanted to get away, so that he wouldnt have to be responsible for her anymore.

Pyros slowly opened his eyes, as he heard a faint sobbing. He had been dreaming about a beach with clear water and warm sand.
He looked at her and watched for a minute.
"Hey, I know that fruit was old and overly ripe, but it it really anything to cry over?"
He stretched forward, then backward, and then shook his whole body.
He let out a yawn before saying, "I'm going to run and get some fresh food, see you in a bit?"
He opened up the doorway and flew up and out into the sky, glancing back and then speeding off.

"Oh .. no Pyros, i ...... sorry for waking you up" she said, head down, she didnt mean to act stuck up, and obsees over her fur, but it was her insinctual reaction to being rejected by her family.
She moved away slightly as he opened up the vines, taking care to watch carefully how he did it.
She nodded slightly as he said about bringing some food back, and felt guilty a little, but she couldnt help admire him when he shook, and took off, his wings making his muscles move under his pelt, smiling a tiny bit she headed out of the tree, out into the trees, looking for a sunny spot to groom her fur.

Upon gathering up fresh fruit, fish, and herbs he headed back to the large tree. It was so tall the it stood out above the rest, making it easy to find.
He glided to a stop and entered, but was shocked to see that Layla was nowhere to be seen
He set the bundle of food down and began to call her name. He became panicked, immediately thinking of the previous night.
"Layla? LAYLA?" he shouted, walking outside. He narrowed his brow and paced about, still calling her name.

Layla faintly heard Pyros calling her, and resisted the urge to call back, she didnt want to be a burden to him, not like she was with her family, slowly she made her way through the tangle of trees.
She tried going through a big thick bramble patch, forgetting her bandage. Inevitably it got caught and she was stuck, now she regretted not calling Pyros, because the more she struggled to free herself, the more bandage got caught up, She was stuck fast now.
