Applying for: Jahina
Player: Ameh

Prompt: The earthquake had been the catalyst for her happiness. It was what brought her together with the troupe, and it was also what formed the bonds she made within.

That was all she had been trying to explain to Chewy, but he still wouldn't listen. No matter the number of arguments she had unconsciously started with any member, Jahina just couldn't win anything but a scolding from Chewy - his interventions made that a fact. At first, she was made to feel shame for her thoughts; that was when she was younger along with the same-aged Chewy. It was a time when she perhaps even held the faintest glimmer of affection for him, as much as their persona conflicted. But when Sikivu found her along with the others, she had since learned to not bother with the pale grey lion of fortitude.

Jahina couldn't understand why Tilifika grew a liking to Chewy; the other lioness was younger than her by not much, and so Jahina had brought it upon herself to act as an older sister. The immediate lions were the only family she had, after all, and part of the reason she didn't share the same negative feelings about the earthquake as many others. When Jahina was born, her mother had been too frail to live after the birth, and her father had tragically fallen in a hunting accident shortly after. But Jahina took all of this in stride; she was too young to know the sorrow of losing loved ones, and so she was oblivious to the remorse in her troupe members' hearts. It wasn't enough that she knew Sikivu's mate had fallen; it was a fact she accepted without second thought. Yamini's loss of her kite also couldn't quite phase Jahina; something like that happening to herself just could not penetrate Jahina's mind.

In short, Jahina preferred to live her life as blissfully happy as possible, and encounters like a scolding from Chewy hindered that achievement.

Jahina stalked angrily away from the group, shoulders hunched and tail swaggering with disdain. A paw swatted at a pebble, rolling it across the ground violently. She just needed some time for herself, and then she could go back to being the enthusiastic friend everyone but Chewy appreciated.

"Tick in your fur, Jahina?" came a voice from overhead - the same old, faithful and welcome response she looked forward to hearing each day.

Since their bonding, Ngeu had made a permanent impression and offered much value to Jahina's life. Ngeu was the calm, soft-spoken and gentle soul that countered Jahina as an opposite, and definitely had been there every time she was needed.

"Ngeu!" Jahina called vigorously, looking up ahead to see the clearly marked dark blue against the light sky; it was harder to spot Ngeu at night - the two joked about whether Hestia blessed or cursed Ngeu to camouflage - Ngeu was proud to call it a blessing, but Jahina retorted that it didn't help her in trying to see where her friend was if she fell to peril at night.

"Ngeu, if Chewy was small enough to be in my fur, then yes. But that big oaf is at it again, and he even tried to get Mvua into it too this time... He always has to poke his nose in my business and he's always there! He's watching when I get up and he's still awake when I go to sleep. What's with him, Ngeu?" Jahina huffed out, though her exasperated breathing had not been as pronounced as just prior to Ngeu's presence.

"Jahina, do I always have to remind you?" Ngeu answered, a smile creeping on her beak, "That's what males do when they're infatuated with you. In fact, I feel closer to Mvua when he isn't happy with me over any other time."

The two looked at each other, and a passing moment of silence presented itself as their movement froze. And, after that, both Jahina and Ngeu burst into laughter at the timeless joke.

"As if Chewy could get his paws on this if he wanted to," Jahina replied, her anger all swept away by her companion.

Ngeu nodded, then saying, "Come on, let's go back. You don't want anyone worried about you - you've been away for long enough. Maybe you can think of something to say to Tilifika that'll make her embarrassed about Chewy later."

Jahina laughed again, nodding an assent to the vulture's request, and began padding towards the group. At times like these, Ngeu was the solid rock on which Jahina could tie her sprightly self, making the day go by with greater happiness in face of her opposition.
