I don't have a persecution complex.

I'm willing to call truce with Blue.

A truce was called. ^^

I don't really think could be something to say as of our race being 'damned'. Mostly because you have to believe in hell, first.
I do believe what opinions are, though. I believe they are opinions and nothing more. If I was Christian, I wouldn't believe someone's opinions as a reason we are all damned. I believe a good number of us probably would be damned from looking at today's world. Then again, since I'm Atheist, I think those places don't exist. I'll say this, and I learned this in school today, just because a quote is good, don't trust it from the person. It probably means a lot more than you know.

I can't find the website of the quote but it was a quote that death was greater than the humiliation of no freedom. That was a quote by Osama Bin Laden and it was shown throughout the entire school.

I don't either, though I do think opinions can feed in to evidence of a certain belief. I'mma gonna quit arguing that though and just say I really like the story and find it highly amusing.

I have a strict "I'll accept it, but still defy it" belief system. Are all humans damned? Maybe. If it morally right that we should be doomed from the moment we first take a breath? I truely do not think so. And I never will, no matter what humans have done. If I found out that there was an afterlife and that other animals were higher up than humans, I'd be fine with the situation. But if some higher being wants to torture me for being a human, than he better be prepared for a long string of swear words aimed right at him from me.

Dude, you can't use Mark Twain to validate the Bible.

The dude went to the Judaean desert and wrote a string of confused paragraphs about it in his travels.

This is like trying to validate the Bible because Madonna had that "like a virgin" song.
I don't see why not, if he makes a good point. Plus I think the story has a bit more depth then Madonna's song.

Plus that's my opinion. I'm allowed that unless I say something obscene.

Saying that your beliefs are fact because Mark Twain says so is obscene.

He's worse than trying to prove that Josephus wrote about James, and thus Jesus was real.

I'm not arguing with you. I didn't say that, I never called my opinion fact, and I still haven't forgotten what you said in that one topic.

"For me this confirms that sinning really as bad as the Bible makes it out to be, and our race needs a Savior. What do you make of it though? "

I'm telling you exactly what I make of this.

Forgotten what? My evidence for homosexuality NOT being a sin by any means, and you not being able to back yourself up, thus making you look not only uneducated in scripture, but a bigot?

Opinion, that's what. This backs up an opinion. My opinions may not be fact.

But you present your opinions as fact!

No, it can't. Text does not fuel archaeology. You can't say something is fact based on fictional writings.

EDIT: I'm going to prove communism is bad based on George Orwell. See what I mean?

I'd also like to add onto that, that you can't look for evidence to support your own belief/theory but then disregard any other evidence to the contrary.

Actually I am able to look for certain information and then disregard other information if I so choose to. I try not to disregard information, but do I look for evidences for my own belief? Yes. Why wouldn't I?

That's horrible! As an historian/archaeologist, if I were to disregard evidence, I'd be made a mockery of in academia.

O_o I just said I try not to do that. You really don't pay attention, do you?

A true, educated debater does not allow themself this ability.

1) I do? O_o I don't mean to.
2) The ability to reference past posts? I don't see why not. Where do you get that rule? I should think a 'true, educated debater' would want to do that because then they can be sure what they're arguing about. I don't want to debate either an idea I think another person holds, when they don't, or with a person who's trying to debate against an idea or point of view they think I hold that I don't.
3) That argument ended about two weeks ago. I don't see why you're bringing it up now. stare

He means that when you state an opinion, you say it as if it is absolute.
For example, if we argued on the existence of God, you would state that he DOES exist instead of you thinking he exists.
Opinions are fine and dandy but people have learned the big boys play with facts lately.

This is everywhere in the Supernatural forum and when we post some contradictory evidence they get all butt-hurt over it. Its really annoying.

XD I know what you mean.
When we start arguing about the existence of a deity of the existence of anything, someone gets butt-hurt and starts to argue that faith is the only answer and blah-blah-blah.

When are people finally going to learn that disagreement is not an attack?

I do that mostly because I'm so sick of people being so unsure of everything (check out Taylor Mali's rant on it in my sig, you'll see what I mean), but even when I say 'in my opinion' it seems as though it comes across as I'm trying to state something as fact when I'm not.

There aren't always usuable facts in a religious debate. When I find facts that pertain to a discussion I use them, but I don't think there are a ton here.

Your not getting it here...
He is trying to say an opinion like "God exists" does not make a good argument even if you do say it is your opinion. You can say it is your opinion all you want but it wont do much. A debate needs something to work on, meaning something that can make common sense and something understandable. When you put your opinion in your argument with just your opinion, it will seem as though your trying to state it as fact.

I saw the video. Pretty much, it was saying speak your mind. Strange how he tried to use our young generation. No one cares for them. Let them watch Twilight for all I care. :
Anyway...
Even if you DO speak your mind, that doesn't mean people will believe it. In a debate, you want something believable BUT not by a preaching method, but more by a persuasive method. The man who stated the poem means that you can't say things like your unsure, opinions for example, but say things that WILL make sense to others.

Edit: Reason why people like me don't believe in God. Not enough facts.

Edit: Reason why people like me don't believe in God. Not enough facts.

I don't think I use my opinion as much as you think I do, even if I do, I don't think it's wrong to do so, especially in a topic that asks for opinions. I know facts mean more. I use them when it's a topic that involves facts. This isn't a topic in which facts really factor though, so... rolleyes
And you know, I don't really want to hear criticism, unless it's in a pm. If you really have a problem with how I debate, either pm me, deal, or ignore what I say. I don't really want to argue about my behavior in a topic though. stare

It's my generation. I kinda have to care.
And the 'man' was Taylor Mali, and he meant that people should having more of a conviction in their words. We shouldn't be apathetic, but be firm in whatever stance we take.

This topic doesn't call for facts! If you want facts, I can look up sites like Answers in Genesis, or refer you to some great writers like CS Lewis, and if you want proof, either look in places where it's likely you'll find it, or specifically ask for it. Otherwise, don't expect it when I never said I was gonna offer any.
And I'm also gonna say, don't expect absolute proof. There isn't any (except maybe God revealing Himself to you), or there wouldn't be room for debate.
