Nodding a bit at the boy's success, Luo moved onto the next offensive move. "The next jutsu is the water puddle technique. It is usually used as a way to evade tracker ninja, or surprise an opponent if you know which way they are traveling. However, it can also be used purely defensively as a method for getting out of a hold of any sort, or avoiding projectile-type attacks." Running through the seals methodically, as he reached the last one his body began to cascade downwards into a puddle on the ground. He had no recognizable features and was simply a puddle on the ground.

Rushing back up into his full form, Luo nodded and motioned for the boy to try his luck. It was one thing to create a jutsu, but the ones which changed body shape were usually a bit more difficult to grasp. Stepping back, he gave the boy room to work.

((Sorry, I've been pretty busy myself.))

((tisk tisk, making me dig up the jutsu on my own. what a cruel thing to do. grr, angryface etc.))

Masaki watched Luo patiently, and even then it took him a second to realize what happened. It happened fast, and if he wasn't looking Luo would have simply vanished from view. As it was, it looked like he had merely been talking to a mizu bunshin that was "deactivated" and returned to it's water state. Had Luo not explained first, then Masaki wouldn't have figured out the true nature of the jutsu. This jutsu was sneaky, defensive, and offensive all in one. While Masaki tended to be an offensive attack first plan later kind of guy he realized just what this jutsu could mean in a tough battle. He practiced the seals several times to memorize them, they were more complex than the other jutsu he had learned, though still had that certain "suiton" feel to them.
[post 1]

After performing the seals for real Masaki concentrated on his suiton chakra. Eventually however, he realized that he had no clue what to do. All his other jutsu created something or changed something outside of himself. His first attempt, he focused his suiton chakra across his body, wrapping himself in the water property. After moments of focusing on this however, Masaki realized the only effect he had created was a thin layer of pseudo sweat across his body. Using water manipulation he moved the water off his body and refocused his chakra. How can I turn into a puddle of water? that doesn't make sense! How is that even possible, is it genjutsu? No, he knew Luo wouldn't be stupid enough to start out with a genjutsu. It had taken him ages to learn the basic bunshin, much less an illusion of this strength.

After taking time to contemplate the correct idea, Masaki came up with another possibility. Obviously wrapping himself in the chakra nature wouldn't work, that was the same as trying to change his environment. The only way to change himself, is to change his own nature. How could he do that... What did he know about chakra? the chakra stream was a system much like the bodie's blood system, veins of a sort ran chakra throughout the body. He didn't really need to mold it so much as direct it. If he could some how "take on" the traits of the water... Masaki's head began to hurt and he stopped thinking for a moment and stared at the forest canopy. Eventually he performed the seals again and half-molded his chakra. As planned, surprisingly enough, it was working. "Mizutamari no jutsu" his body became loose, and he could feel himself melt into a puddle. This jutsu felt absolutely bizarre. Apparantly, water jutsu as a whole tended to do weird stuff. Now however, the poor boy found a new problem.
[post 3/4]

How do I return? It wasn't like Masaki had "human" elemental chakra to reverse the process... did he? The puddle of water that was Masaki pondered this problem and sat there still for several moments. What else could he do? Eventually, Masaki realized how big of an idiot he was being. His body was naturally human, he was simply forcing a change on it. As soon as he stopped that, he would return to normal. Hopefully. Masaki cut the "flow" of chakra that had caused him to take his form, and within moments he was standing before Luo. He rubbed his temples for a moment. He was pushing things pretty close, two correct theories in a row. Masaki would never become a plan-first kind of guy, but he was tapping into an intelligence he had never had to bother with before.

As the boy seemed to stare up at the sky in thought, Luo could almost see the gears in his head turning. A few times he saw the boy wince as if his brain were hurting from the strain. However, Masaki was a smart boy when he wanted to be, and sure enough he figured out what needed to be done. As he popped back up into his normal form Luo nodded once to affirm and somewhat congratulate the boy on the feat. "You did well in figuring that out, and I'm glad that you did." As he said this, Luo forced the ram seal and the moist earth under Masaki seized upwards to grab his legs and pull him under in the shape of a crab pincer. There were two things that weighed on this attack working or not for Luo: From the 'jog' they had taken earlier, would Masaki still be as alert, and if he wasn't alert enough to move, could he use what he just learned to maneuver his way out?

Whichever outcome came, Luo began to explain the jutsu. "The Beach Crab jutsu works by using the basic skill of water manipulation to mold moisture in soil or even water itself into yet another multipurpose jutsu. While yes it is used to grab opponents and pull them under the earth in hopes of suffocating them, it can also be brought up in front of you to block an attack, or used to pull yourself under the earth for a stealth attack if you know the earth military movement skill; which in your case is an option."

Isonagi no Jutsu (Beach Crab)
Description: A jutsu that can only be used on water or atop loose soil (sand, non-rocky aerated dirt, etc,) this technique causes a pair of pincers to rise out of the ground/water and grasp the target by the ankles before pulling him underground/water. An important difference between this technique and Doton: Shinjuu Zanshu is that in this technique the target is fully enveloped in the earth or water. If strong enough, the target can break free, due to the loose earth. Water is less efficient because of its fluidity, and the target not held long. There is something to be said, though, for the change in momentum that can occur when you force an opponent to abandon all thoughts save survival.

Masaki watched the handseals his sensei performed, but didn't have enough time to react to the pincers grabbing his legs and pulling him under the loose ground. Masaki's right hand performed several seals before it, and the rest of the boy, was pulled under ground. He managed to sound the words "Tsuchi Gunjikoudou." For this jutsu, was not the first time Masaki was buried alive. He had done it to himself on multiple occasions. The nature of suiton is to absorb and deflect attacks. The nature of Doton is to remain resolved and strong regardless of the opponent. Both natures make Mokuton. I am letting his jutsu work to my own ends, and then using it against him... Am I fighting with the nature of Mokuton? As soon as Masaki was under the ground he swam through the mud and dirt, and even Luo's jutsu, as if it were water. He then practiced the handseals under the earth, and began deciphering the jutsu he was just shown. The name, "Isonagi no Jutsu" and the purpose, to immobilize or even kill an opponent. It's application was right on the line between doton and suiton, he actually grabbed Masaki through the loose dirt and pulled him under. Masaki had heard Luo's commentary before he was pulled under. Now he could figure out how to use it.
[post 1/4]

Masaki "swam" back to the surface and rose from the ground behind Luo and performed the seals, and said "Isonagi no Jutsu" He then focused on the ground below Luo, and pored his chakra into it, compelling the ground to attack Luo. The ground around Luo bubbled a bit, as if it was wanting to move, but it didn't do anything other than warn Luo that he was trying to attack. As if the Kage wouldn't have known anyways. "Damnit... what now..." Masaki scratched his head in confusion as he stared at the ground.
[post 2/4]
PostPosted: Mon May 02, 2011 1:44 pm

He sighed. It wasn't like he was expecting Luo to spell it out for him anyways. He had already explained things a lot more than the previous jutsu. Affect the moisture in the ground. This wouldn't work too well in a desert then. Or on solid rock, he'd need a doton jutsu for that. Someone like Luo could probably break free on their own in such loose wet material without even using a jutsu. Masaki formed the chakra for another try, and let the jutsu loose. The results were indeed better this time, the "claws" rose from the ground, but crumbled before they could even try to grab the Kage. What was he doing wrong now?!?!?!
[post 3/4]

It took several more minutes of thinking, but eventually Masaki decided the only possible answer was he was pulling to hard. Since he wasn't effecting the earth but the water embedded in it, if he pulled too hard he would be pulling the water out of the ground, making the jutsu useless. He had to use the water to push the dirt, A third time, the boy tried the jutsu. His hands flashed the seals as his mouth spoke the words, and finally the jutsu broke through the earth, and grabbed at Luo's legs. Masaki could tell the jutsu was completed correctly, the only thing that was doubtful was that Luo would let the jutsu grab him.
[post 4/4]

((I need to use Nagisa more, to get this analytical thinking into the right character. It's not quite right for Masaki.))

Staring off a bit in thought as the boy struggled with the jutsu, he noticed the ground rumble under him at first. He lifted his foot about three inches from the ground before it just stopped, a sign that the jutsu didn't go through the first time. The second time the boy attempted to sleight Luo, he had once again found himself deep in thought. What he was wondering was just what one of his clones was doing. The other died in the last leg of the jog he took with Masaki, but the other was just gone, and had been for about an hour. It was at that point that Luo remembered something; he'd meant to get a message to a man who shared the same trait as Masaki. He was one of the ANBU of the village, and good at his job too. In fact, the more Luo thought of it the more he realized Masaki and Tobi were not that different in nature, Tobi was just older and knew when to keep his mouth shut.

As he pondered, he found a second attempt on himself by the boy to fail. It reached just up to his knees before crumbling back downwards; Masaki was getting close. As his third try came with success, it grabbed at Luo's legs and was at the verge of yanking him under when he lazily threw up his right arm and seemed to almost 'wave off' the jutsu. What happened next was something Luo was accustomed to, but not many knew about until it was too late. As he did this, the moisture in the dirt was sucked out and rapidly converted into water shuriken which struck a few stalks of bamboo off to the side. They remained for a moment before their form was lost and they sloshed onto the ground. Just as well, the arid dirt that was left was too dry and brittle to hold both Luo and its form, and simply crumbled.

Dusting his legs off a bit, he formed the ram seal followed by the monkey and spat out a ball of water the size of a large fist which sailed quickly towards Masaki's chest. He seemed to have taken in a sizeable breath beforehand, and it looked like he would sneeze directly after. However, instead a compacted ball of water shot out, and as Masaki would no doubt need to hopefully dodge it, he explained the mechanics. "By taking already existing saliva and moisture in the body and melding it with chakra to increase the amount of water as well as pressurize it, you essentially get a projectile punch. This, along with its predecessor also can act as water sources you can place strategically around the battlefield for use later."

Mizu Peretto (Water Pellet)
Description: An enhanced Uo Tsuba, instead of a stream, it is a bullet that impacts the enemy at high speed (though with blunt force,) and it is roughly about the size of a fist.

((I guess my post didnt go through. That would explain why you haven't responded to it. Damn, that was a pain to write too. Sorry, these might be less than great.))
Masaki dodged the waterball by a hair and watched it smash into a tree. A loud thump-splash, that suggested this jutsu was actually semi-useful. practiced the seals several times, as usual, for the jutsu in question. It was an upgrade to Uo tsuba, and MAsaki didn't think he'd have much trouble. He concentrated his chakra and formed the Uo Tsuba spit in his mouth to give him something to work with. it didn't take much to do that jutsu, it was basically spit. It was more a waste of chakra than anything. This jutsu was probably similar, but could be useful in a tight spot. Luo suggested it was also useful for setting traps, but Masaki didn't like that idea very much, and ignored it.
[post 1/4]

Once he had sufficiently filled his mouth with spit, he began building up some chakra to wrap it in a tight shell, this shell would hold the water in a tight ball as it flew towards Luo to keep it from spreading all over the place. While water cannot be compacted, it can spread out weakening the effect of the jutsu. It took a bit of experimenting and work for Masaki to come up with the idea, then more of both to build the actual shell, but in the end he could be satisfied that the bullet would hold together as long as it needed to. He looked at Luo, and then at the shuriken the man had created from Masaki's jutsu. Perhaps that was a subtle threat that Luo could turn his against him. Of course, threats were rarely more than challenges to Masaki, and the boy couldn't pass up a challenge. He watched Luo out of the corner of his eye as he finalized the shell.
[post 2/4]

He wasn't quite sure what to do next. It didn't much make sense that water on it's own could provide that much force. Perhaps if he crystalized a bit of the water. Not enough to freeze it, or even to make a slushball out of it, just enough to make the ball slightly harder. In the end, it act feel just like a splash of cold water. Hopefully it would feel a bit more solid, if nothing else like a weak punch. This took a very little time, since it was basically water manipulation, but Masaki lost a lot of time when he pictured someone else learning the jutsu, with their face all screwed up and their cheeks puffed out. He couldn't help but laugh, Spraying water out of his mouth and nose.
[post 3/4]

After a moment's recovery, Masaki performed all of the previous bits of the jutsu once more, though much quicker this time, and continued the learning process. He could feel the burning in his nose from the water that had trespassed there not long ago. Masaki thought about this and realized that the nose-water had moved just as fast as the mouth-water, but it held together longer and went a lot further. Pressure! that was the missing part! Masaki had heard that water could cut if it had enough pressure built up. He used the water chakra to give an extra push on the bullet, and opened his mouth just a crack towards his target and sensei. The water escaped quickly, the shell successfully holding the water together, and found itself flying straight towards Luo's chest.

As the pellet sailed towards his chest, Luo didn't bother to move or block it. It struck with the force of a strike from Masaki, but he was very much unphased by the attack. Having a background as a weapon master and being as seasoned as he was for his age, it was found that for Luo most any physical attack from a genin generally didn't bother him. As the water dripped from the water-proof sleeveless shirt he wore with a mesh underlay, he looked at Masaki and nodded to confirm that the attack did in fact have an impact despite Luo being unfurled. What he also recognized, was that in learning these jutsu Masaki had spent just under half of his chakra pool as he muttered, "Catch yourself some fish to fry. After you have and eat it, you and I will practice once more underwater for some resistance training."

Besides Masaki being low on chakra, Luo also did not have the ability to teach him Doton, something the next sensei would have to do. However in the meantime, Luo could still teach the boy basic combat skills and increase his ability at both short and long range combat. He hoped that by working on him with reaction timing lately, he would be capable of spearing his own fish to eat since he had run out of packaged meals. It would seem that in being forced to catch his own food, he would come to appreciate the food he lamented over Luo getting in the first place.

Masaki frowned, Luo had decided he had learned enough jutsu for the day it seemed. It had been the most productive training so far, as far as Masaki saw it. He walked over to the water and picked up a kunai and threw it at a fish, the current moved the kunai off target, and Masaki grabbed another to throw, but the fish had already fled. He waited until another showed up and threw another kunai, he had over-adjusted and once again the fish fled. Masaki frowned. He was hungry, and not in the mood to practice his aim. The next fish that came around found himself in a sphere of water lifting from the water. The sphere landed in Masaki's hands as he broke the jutsu, catching the fish before it returned to the water. Masaki held the fish from it's tail for several moments and then speared it on the end of a stick. Then he lowered the fish until it was just over the fire, rotating it slowly so that it cooked evenly. There was no point cleaning the fish, most of the nutrients were in the organs anyways. He would just have to eat around the bones. While he wasn't exactly a cook, Masaki had become accustomed to cooking and eating food like this. Although normally it was rabbits he ate. When he finished, he wiped his mouth and looked up at his sensei. "Do you want me to get you one too?" It was clearly said as a second thought, but he was genuinely trying to be polite even though he knew the kage was moer than capable of getting and cooking his own fish. Why the Kage had put so much emphasis Masaki never knew, but he seemed to prefer it.

As Masaki saw it, if the Kage didn't do his own fishing, he would forget how. Though sitting in an office letting others do the work generally was a Kage's job. If it weren't for the kage's personality, the boy would have no respect for the man whatsoever.

As Luo watched the boy struggle for a moment before taking the easy way out, Luo sighed if only to himself. He couldn't be all that angry, afterall it was a rather resourceful way to go about getting the food he needed. "No thank you," he muttered as he turned to face the boy. Luo often didn't find himself hungry on missions, at least when camping outdoors. The more he meditated, the less he felt the need to eat. If necessary, Luo found that he could go up to four days on water without feeling the urge to eat as long as his meditative processes became more rigorous.

Watching the boy spare no part of the fish was interesting to him. He wondered how the boy got around the scales which seemed to constantly slice the tongue which was why Luo chose to skin his fish in the first place, but ignored the small question he posed to himself by deciding to actually talk to Masaki while he was eating. "Masaki, despite my upbringings and current job, you should know by now that I am anything but complacent. I haven't told many this besides those who already knew when it happened, but I never wanted the position of Mizukage. I often made jokes at my sensei about the irony of simultaneously being named the strongest shinobi in the village, and being reduced to paperwork and sitting behind a desk. I often pondered why anyone would place someone of such supposed power in a position to lose it over time with complacency."

Kneeling on his feet with his hands together, Luo continued what he was saying. "It was never in my nature to simply sit idly by and send others to do what I am very well capable of. However, in not doing so with my current position, I deprive my shinobi of experience; experience that if I expect someone to arise to ever be capable of doing my job, would need. Just as well, it would be selfish of me to do such a thing. The previous Mizukage was killed in a coup that was simultaneously attempted and succeeded in Sunagakure on the Kazekage. At the time my friend and brother in both arms and heart was learning under the Kazekage. It was quite possibly the first time that anyone could record me going into a blind rage. I slaughtered each and every shinobi involved in the Kiri Coup and my former squadmate Zane Hajime had unbeknown to me performed the same action in Suna."

Reflecting on the action, Luo took a second to collect his various thoughts before continuing. "One would like to say that they would not be proud of such an action. What I am not proud of is the manner in which it occurred, the uncontrollable anger that clouded my judgment on just how exactly to go about the action. I am very much proud of protecting my village from a group of men and women who plotted its downfall, doing so under the pretenses of vengeance was and is to me unacceptable. The abilities we gain as shinobi are there to protect that which needs protection. They are not to be abused in any manner, or used for vengeance for the sake of vengeance, but this I suppose is not what I really intended to get at. What I'm getting at is in my first year of this position...well last year I suppose, I have learned a lot. In a way, it was my sensei's final lesson. We are constantly learning and it may not always be from the same teacher. Do not take knowledge for granted or look down upon it when its offered to you. Embrace it, respect it, and impart it onto others. When you assume a lesson to have no meaning before even bothering with it, you are hindering yourself. Never assume anything, that is a mistake that has lead to the death of many."

Standing up, Luo walked with patience into the water and waited for Masaki, hoping anything he said sunk in.....Anything.

((for the record, he never actually said his thoughts aloud. Mindreader Luo. razz ))
Masaki was startled, and even jumped a little, when Luo started justifying himself only seconds after the thought ran through his mind. When Luo finished, Masaki couldn't help but ask. "You're a mindreader?"

At this point Luo was into the water just a few inches under his shoulders as he shrugged with his back turned. "I do not read minds, but I can read words and physical movements quite well. Throughout many of the exercises I put you through, you looked quite annoyed at the prospect of doing something you didn't see as being fruitful in the least. Here and there you've made a few caddy comments that had I not had the patience, would've landed you in more pain than I'd care to describe. Just now you frowned when it seemed as if I had ceased the one lesson you and every other genin look forward to: ninjutsu training. You saw it as the most productive thing you've done so far and therefore have taken for granted everything you've learned so far, something I had just mentioned in my previous point."

Walking into the water a bit more until he was up to his neck in it he muttered before fully submerging himself, "In a sense you have learned nothing despite learning plenty. Your own closed minded nature has become your utter downfall so far as a shinobi; something I truly pity."

If there was one thing Luo knew how to do, it was how to verbally get to people in whatever manner he wished, a tactic his father taught him from his years of experience as the former ANBU captain. Masaki's upbringing was one of hardship, something that ironically enough he and Luo both valued. Hardship made a man and a shinobi stronger than most. And what irked Masaki the most Luo assumed was something that irked him as well: Pity. However, he did not lie when he said he did pity the boy for in a way for holding himself back. He had more potential than most children his age, and more resilience and resolve as well. It was these things that could propel Masaki forward if he only opened his mind enough to truly see what Luo was doing and getting at. And as he watched the fish swim around him and his hair rush forward with the current, Luo supposed that the only thing he could do was continue on the training path he had paved for the boy and hope that through practice and mediation, it clicked.

((Nope I don't read minds, but I did in fact plan on having this talk with Masaki anway haha.))

As Masaki followed, Luo began the regimen of practicing the same kicks and punches they practiced before for about an hour. He went through them a few times and then held up a finger as if to alert Masaki to watch. He began to chain together the punches and kicks for combination attacks. Right hook followed through with a right sweep kick from the left to the right, and a straight punch forward. He ran through a few more combinations of chained attacks, even improvising every once in a while. He was trying to show the importance of chaining together what he learned to create devastating attacks. However, it was still necessary to practice each step of every combination separately.

As they practiced, Luo's clone returned topside with a man in Kiri ANBU garb. His spiral tattoo protruded on his left shoulder and he waited with one foot forward and his arms crossed, seeming to be somewhat annoyed with even having to bother coming down this way. This, was Masaki's teacher for the next two days.
