"Alright Mr. Hatano, ready whenever you are," Luo said from the back of the cart. It was incredible to hear the man's voice go over a certain volume level, and yet seem to retain an heir of being somewhat disinterested or possibly aloof, as well as commanding and respectful. Luo's father could tell most anyone when he noticed the change in his son's voice. The young kage always seemed to mutter, and often times he was criticized for seeming as if he weren't paying attention or worse, like he simply didn't care. The truth of course was that it was usually the opposite of these things, however as a young shinobi it was often expected for your tone to mimic a certain level of respect for authority. He often found himself apologizing to people before he spoke, to warn of the impending tone of voice he used to speak normally. For his father Lao, the change came when Luo returned from training in the rainforest. He had always been a mature boy for his age, but that wasn't due to anything more than being an Ushio. No, the 'boy' his father knew had grown in those two years to become an adult. It was in the way he walked, the way he talked, and even the way he sighed. His father was one to often times ponder whether it was the two years of solitude and training that did it, or the contract he so painstakingly earned in the wild. Either way, Lao would say there was nothing about his son he would ever wish to change.

With the crack of a whip, the cart moved forward towards Kiri at last. It didn't move at any sort of accelerated rate, however Hatano certainly wasn't wasting his time getting through the countryside, especially with the sky tinged barely orange with a royal purple dominating the sky. At any moment the sun would disappear, and that was when things would become harder for them all. Out of slight boredom, Luo produced a senbon to twirl between his fingers, a childhood habit he had yet to break. As they began to enter the treeline which seemed to hold the mist from ever passing into the open areas of Kiri country, Luo kept his eyes and ears at the ready. For the trio of shinobi, the mist was for the most part not a problem at all, save for perhaps Gage who may still be getting used to it. For Mr. Hatano however, it was a complete hindrance. Not only that, but the light from the torches further hindered the older gentleman's ability to spot anything from where he was. Luo found it unfortunate, since he technically had the high ground advantage, and just as well hoped that Gage and Masaki realized that this was yet another reason the man needed help. Not everyone stayed in Kirigakure long enough for the mist to become nothing more than a slight nuisance if that.

As the torches crackled, the old man seemed to be humming a tune to himself, something Luo couldn't put his finger on. He searched the recesses of his mind for an answer, coming up with nothing after a few short minutes. He decided the tune was either something central to Nagi Island, or something the older man had learned in his youth or even within his family. As they continued there was a slight breeze that came through as the sun officially set, making the area somewhat chilly. Despite the very clear absence of sleeves Luo had, he found the brisk temperatures to be calming, and the breeze even more so. He had dealt with worse after all in his years. Eyeing the back of both Gauge and Masaki from his position outside of the light of the torches, he wondered about the pair. The were similar, yet totally different in the same way. At least, their goals seemed to follow the same path. As his gaze fell on Masaki, Luo wondered if Sarutobi would try to approach him again. The man had become a bit unnerved from the last interaction, simply deciding to tail the boy in his free time. The situation saddened Luo, to see a man as decorated as Sarutobi fulfilling his master's last request within the shadows. It angered Luo a bit sometimes, at least until he always came back to the same thought; that everyone was entitled to make their own decisions. For now, Masaki had made his clear, that Sarutobi for the time being was not apart of his life. Well, at least until the boy wanted to learn more about his bloodline, something only Sarutobi could teach. They'd see each other soon enough.

As the group finally started Masaki began moving in turn, still practicing with his tonfa as the reentered the mist. The distorted light from the lanterns seemed to hurt more than help their sight, at least for Masaki and more than likely Luo who could see fairly clearly through the dark mist. Still, the old man was not of Kiri, and even Masaki was willing to acknowledge that the light was necessary for those unacustomed to the mist. The carriage itself was far from quiet, the ground rustled loudly under the wheels and the pair of horses grunted as their heavy footsteps became a low roar. The old man's whip also added to the noise, though he seldom had to use it. Masaki saw this as a good thing. He was not a fan of stealth missions, though he could tolerate them if he needed to, and the threat of danger made the uncomfortable truth of his mission that much easier to bear.

As he walked his thoughts turned to Gage, the older boy who seemed to share a similar attitude to Masaki's own. He enjoyed fighting. Masaki wondered if he couldn't convert the boy, and teach him the true nature of the shinobi game. If he were to lead another shinobi to the truth, perhaps the sin of this mission could be spared. It would also inevitably make both of them stronger as Gage began his search for strength. He would have to be tested first though, he would have to be ready to learn. Masaki was a very young and inexperienced Genin, but he had a stronger understanding of Terra's plan than any of Kirigakure's residents, save for the one who taught him. Few were willing to understand the truth after all, Masaki doubted even Luo could accept it entirely. Masaki muttered the words of his master, as his flare fell upon the carriage. "Strength breeds strength. Weakness means death."

The crack of the whip startled Gage a little as the journey began. He heard neighs from the animals drawing the cart and soon followed the cricketing of the wheels. As the sound reached his ears, Gage too moved forward. He tried his best to fight off wayward thoughts so he could focus on his mission. The Mizukage said this mission was equally important as defending the village itself. Gage knew well what the man meant, but he had a problem grasping that concept.

Time went by slowly. The night was still drawing nearer, but it wasn't here yet. 'Hopefully I get my chance to prove myself...' He thought as he began to finger his headband mindlessly. Everything seemed to be going well, even the mist wasn't too bad anymore. Gage would deliver his cargo and call it a day. Or so he thought.

Suddenly Gage heard the jingle of the carts lanterns being blown in the wind. He found that rather odd, but trudged onward trying to increase his awareness and best he could. "Masaki, something's not right. Double you're guard..." He breathed to the boy on the right side of the cart. Hopefully anything out there didn't hear him.

As the pair walked in sync with the cart, Luo's pace slowed down little by little until he went from being only ten feet out of the view of lantern light, to being thirty feet behind. By no means was he deserting the mission, merely taking a more tactical stance. The man had learned in the past to trust his shinobi intuition, and just as well rely on his prowess for field strategics. If he was out of sight, he'd certainly be out of mind just as well. He hoped if they were attacked, the age old adage would remain the same for anyone who may have happened on them. The breeze had ceased to stop since it started, which made paying attention to movement in the forest that much more difficult, much less hearing anything move. It was why he took the precaution of slinking somewhat behind the group, since as it was both boys more than likely couldn't see him before. He contemplated jumping into the forest itself and simply tracking the cart by lantern light alone, however he couldn't risk being too far away for comfort. Perhaps if the pair were Yamatano and Kaizen he'd have taken that option, but you never did know with Masaki and Gauge.

As he kept a steady pace, Luo's eyes darted to the right in his peripherals. Something had moved from one side of the forest, over the path, and into the other. Whether it was an animal or not he couldn't tell, however it did in a way put the man on higher guard than before despite his body language not showing it. He appeared as bored as before, constantly twirling the senbon in his right hand, checking his ten and two followed by his eight and four. Admittedly, his attention wasn't primarily on the front of the cart, after all if he needed to pay attention up there as well there would be no reason for the genin to even be there. Looking ahead just in case, the path seemed clear from where he was, although he saw Gauge trying to speak to Masaki through the space between the cart and carriage. He couldn't make out his expression from where he was and how dark it was back there, so he decided it was more than likely idle chatter. Out of nowhere however, the silence was broken, as the forest all around Luo seemed to shutter and move, branches and small trees snapping like twigs. There was a large cracking sound up ahead, as Luo watched a large tree begin to topple over into the road. The horses became spooked, rearing up and bucking Mr. Hatano out of his seat despite his attempts to restrain them. It didn't matter though, the horses didn't make an attempt at running at all.

As Luo looked to see what was coming out of the treeline he realized why. They were paralyzed in fear, and just as well as the forest seemed to 'turn on' as a bright streak of yellow light surrounded them, he looked ahead to see the front of what had caused the tree to fall and block their path. "It's never easy is it?" Luo muttered under his breath, his pace remaining the same as he approached the light of the cart and the boys. He hoped they had battle instincts, and just as well remembered the mission. If Mr. Hatano or his cart were harmed before they even got into Kiri, the mission would be beyond a failure for them, and Luo did not want the sole blemish on his mission record to be a simple escort mission.

Geji - Millipede - Summon - Chakra 25/25

Geji had been tracking these scum all night from the forest, using the light of the cart as a reference point. Being so large, he wasn't able to simply track from as close as he wanted to. However, the breeze that blew through changed everything. His scent was carried downwind from them, and the rustling of trees made it that much easier to get as close as possible. He had a close encounter however, as a man who seemed to be drifting farther and farther behind almost heard him crossing from one side of the forest to the other, encircling them to ensure escape was minimal. As he moved though, the man didn't seem to react to it at all, Geji thinking to himself, "What an idiot." Despite that, it was time to attack. As he came out, he pushed over a large tree to block the path so they couldn't continue forward, further trapping them around his large body mostly hidden by the rest of the forest. Not for long however, as a pair of streaks on his sides grew bright yellow.

Bursting forth in front of them, one could visually see why despite his size he was hard to hear or see. There were appendages on his back that resembled small trees, a form of natural camouflage the large animal had adapted over time. In fact, the 'truks' were bone appendages with leaf-like hairs sprouting from them. As he reared up over the cart, he looked down at the three in front of him. The first was of course the old man, perhaps a quick and easy snack he could grab while simultaneously completing the task of eliminating him. The second, was a shinobi he saw as fidgety, playing with his tonfa constantly as Geji watched from the sidelines. The third, was a black haired boy. Whoever had sent these children on this mission expected it to be easy. Little did they know Geji was only the first of trials to come.

He let out a monstrous sound that echoed through the forest, his slit yellow eyes narrowing as mucous dripped from his fangs and he moved the feelers under his head. The message was clear: Attempt to flee, or die. Hopefully, his intimidation tactic was enough to scare the kids away. He contemplated tail swiping the man who was so far back, but figured him to be incompetent. Anyone willing to walk in the shadows where Geji had the option of striking well before he revealed himself was a coward and an idiot in his eyes. "Let him come," the beast thought to himself.

This mission needed to be a success for the summon, his summoner was not one so easily pleased with failure. He'd get the job done however, he always did.

(I don't imagine Masaki would spend time to look at a bug, probably just crush them out of his sense of "duty". A funny thought considering my other character, but anyways he has no idea what this creature is.))

Masaki shrugged at Gage's comment. He didnt notice anything, so he wasnt sure what Gage was so afraid of, ar least not until the tree toppled in their path. The horses were clearly spooked, but also well trained, for even when their driver was knocked loose they did not run. Then the forest lit up as if someone had run streams of light around them, it wasnt incredibly bright, not even rivaling day, but it definitely changed things. Then Masaki heard a tremendous roar, one meant to turn blood to ice and heroes into cowards. Masaki's blood boiled with excitement instead, for there was no reason not to fight this beast. It wouldnt be illegal at all to do so, in fact quite the opposite, and Masaki did not currently feel the fear of dying. This after all was just a beast, a wild creature sent by Terra to test him. Plus if it came down to it, Luo was with them as well. Masaki stopped to think og a plan, but got bored almost instantly and ran toward the light ready to swing at whatever was there, he still hadn't seen it's head, but it wasn't hard to imagine a giant snake like the ones Yamatano used, except... with lights. If the lights weren't part of the beast he would find out soon enough, and he did. As he got closer he got a good look at what was clearly a really really big snake... with a bunch of feet...and a mohawk of trees... His arm stretched out quickly, flipping the long end of the tonfa forward and bringing it down on the snakes body with all his strength, while stabbing with the short end of the other. If nothing else it would help him find the snakebeastthing's head, which was difficult to locate.

((Please excuse my errors. A phone post was all i could manage within the two day post limit.))

'I thought so...' Gage began to think to himself as trees began to crack and crumble before them, blocking their way. He fully expected to be surrounded by a gang of some sort; something he had mentally prepared himself for. Never in his life time did he expect this. As the trees continued to fall, a streak of yellow lit their now dark surroundings to reveal their attacker.

"What the..." he managed to mutter from his shocked state. Taking in as much as he could, Gage finally concluded that he was being attacked by a giant worm. Not only was it huge but the trees that he thought were falling were actually connected to this giant thing. The longer he stared at it the more he felt insulted by his opponent. "A worm..." Gage breathed as he gritted his teeth. "You're really coming at us with a worm?" He questioned as he followed the streak upward to what looked like a face. No sooner had he done this, the worm let loose a roar that was meant to scare Gage and Masaki, but neither of the two fell for it.

"Is that the best you can do?" Gage taunted the worm from where he stood. There was no need to run from such a freak of nature. The simple fact was that whoever was using this worm was insulting the Mist and that made Gage's blood boil. Gage's once empty mind was now filled with ideas of attack, but instead he turned to Masaki. He was surprised to see that the boy had walked up to the worm and tapped it with his weapon. "Masaki get away from that thing. We don't have any idea what it can do yet!!!" Gage yelled to the boy. He then turned his head to see if Luo was advancing towards them, he wasn't. 'Good...' Gage thought as he turned back to the worm.

What happened next was definitely crazier then what Masaki had done, but Gage already decided. He reached into his tools bag and retrieved a kunai from it and hurled up towards the creatures face. He hoped it would proceed to attack him, but Gage wasn't sure how the worm would react.

When the screech rocketed through the area, Luo had just gotten into view under the light of the lanterns. He'd taken his time coming up admittedly, but it was mainly because he could tell where the creatures focus was. If it came to it, he could've approached in time to prevent anything serious, but he honestly wanted to see how the pair of genin reacted, sort of using the encounter as a test of sorts to watch how they performed in ambush situations. It seemed just like Luo had gauged their personalities, they both reacted instantly. He doubted at their age they could take in as much info as Luo could, but regardless they knew enough to strike immediately. Haphazardly paying attention to the boys, Luo knelt down to lend a hand to Mr. Hatano who had been caught under a branch. What the boys failed to do, was secure the client and make sure no harm came to him. It was of course only Luo who in passing noticed the horses buck the man into the way of the toppling tree. The old man was quick to his feet however, as if the experience was commonplace. He managed to dodge the tree itself, however got caught under a few limbs.

"Are you alright?" Luo said as he helped the man up and grabbed his shoulder to support his frame. Although the man had a dislike for physical interactions with people, his respect for the elderly as well as the mission refused him the right to be agitated. He was doing his job as a shinobi. As the man nodded and thanked him, Luo turned around at the sound of a light squeal from the animal. On its head there seemed to be a kunai buried deep. It seemed as Masaki struck it he attempted to strike the boy, resulting instead in a painful injury from Gauge. When Luo looked at the creature, he sighed heavily. He had never personally seen the summon, however he had a strong hunch he knew the owner based on what his squad mates had described it as in mission reports. It seemed to stare back directly at Luo as well as Mr. Hatano. Whatever it was for the first time got a good look at Luo, and reared back. It wasn't because it recognized the man, it was more that Luo tended to be rather imposing on the battlefield. His expression often remained the same as usual, unless of course it got interesting. Whatever vibe Luo gave off, it didn't like.

However, that was only part of it in Luo's mental opinion. The animal purposely blocked their path to Kiri. Luo figured he was sent to scout the caravan and block its path to buy the summoner time. More than likely, it was ordered to strike if the hired help seemed to be an easy challenge. As it began to retreat into the woods quickly, Luo held up an open palm to signal no one chasing after it. If it didn't attack after getting a good look at Luo, it only confirmed to the man that it was a scout. They were going to have a bigger problem to deal with soon, and they'd probably see that thing again. It's light shut off immediately as it hit the brush, the wind masking it while it took its leave. As Mr. hatano took care of the horses and checked the cargo, Luo walked up to the pair of genin, staring at the felled tree as he spoke. "I suggest following mission orders next time. Neither one of you secured the client or the cargo." As he stood with his arms crossed over his chest staring ahead, it grew silent for a moment with the horses in the background. As a sigh escaped his lips he muttered, "Help Mr. Hatano secure the cargo and return to your post."

Without waiting for a response, Luo walked forward towards the middle of the tree. Staring down at it, one could see his shoulders heave with a sigh as he slowly crossed his right arm over to the left, his fingers slowly curling around one of the special weapons he owned. As he firmed his grip, he struck the trunk horizontally. The strike was fast, blindingly so for most people. By the time most people realized he'd done anything, he'd have his weapon sheathed once more. That of course wasn't to say there weren't people out there capable of following the man's sword hand. The strike was perfect, slicing the medium-sized tree in half. Grabbing the sliced end of one with both arms, he pulled backwards with all of his strength, or at least a large amount. He gritted his teeth slightly, it wasn't an easy task to clear a tree alone. He only moved it back ten feet though, as he went to the other and did the same, leaving just enough room for them to pass through.

Swiping his hands together in order to clear them of dirt, he began to walk to the back of the cart once more as he he made a twirling motion with his index finger, muttering to Mr. Hatano and the boy's as he passed, "Ready whenever you are Mr. Hatano." With yet another crack of the whip, they pressed forward.

Instantly, one of the tiny humans below charged at him seemingly without fear. To be honest, it wasn't exactly how he expected it to go. Just as well, the other one taunted him. The strike the first boy attempted resulted in him attempting to simply eat the boy. As he tried, a sharp pain interrupted the action as he reared up in pain. As he did, he noticed the other man he couldn't see earlier in the dark. He'd fought ninja who looked at him like that, he knew that stare. "This was supposed to just be a scouting mission anyway, I jumped the gun and attacked." I need to warn him about this mission."

Retreating into the woods, he prayed he wasn't followed. He gathered the chance was slim, however if that man were to pursue he was unsure how he'd fare. For now, he'll go help with preparations as they deal with the road block.

------------------------------

Masaki frowned as the beast squealed, and began to run. He had seen a Kunai in it's head before it's lights "turned off". He wasnt sure if his own attack had any effect at all. Perhaps in retrospect his weak taijutsu would have had little effect on the beast. Still, whatever it was the beast was hurt badly enough that it wanted to flee. Masaki was able to see Luo, holding a "hold" signal to them both. He didnt want to chase the beast and finish the oddly anti-climactic battle. That wasn't quite good enough for Masaki, for he could be in two places at once... sort of. His hands flashed a quick set of seals and mumbled the words "Moku Bunshin" before slamming his hands together and pointing them at a tree just above the retreating body, barely visible without it's lighting. As large as the beast was, it had to cover more distance to actually move. In other words it was only a slow kind of fast. A branch on the bulged near the end, as if bearing a fast growing fruit. Within seconds the "fruit had bulged to Masaki's own height, dropping between the false trees on the beasts back before it even began to modify it's features. While it would be impossible to see with their limited lighting, the block of wood began to color and shape itself more precisely until it eventually resembled Masaki himself.

Perhaps it would just force the beast to return to the fight. Masaki however, his mind no longer distracted with the thrill of battle, was certain the beast wouldnt even notice. It was after all pushing through a forest, and some of the leafage on it's back was probably debris from the forest. He then began to wonder why it really ran away, since a beast which readily pushed through the thick trees and large rocks probably didn't care much for a tonfa to the back. It might bruise, if it was able, but it wouldnt feel the need to run. To run because you got hit by a Kunai also made no sense, since the creature was more than willing to attack a team of shinobi who undoubtedly had handfulls of Kunai and shuriken, not to mention possible swords and explosive tags and jutsu. "Why is it leaving?" It surprised him slightly the manner in which he was asking. Instead of a battle-anxious Masaki it was more like a confused elder trying to understand their kid's actions.

After watching the forest a moment, though the snakething was beyond view, Masaki moved to help the old man, while keeping as much distance as possible. A few packages which almost certainly held the "golden paper" they were all worried about had fallen off the back and he began putting them back as organized as he knew how, and then reafastening the straps meant to hold them in. He could feel a very general sense of his Clone's location, enough to know it wasn't nearby, but he could not tell where it was without knowing the local area better. It could be attacking Kirigakure for all he knew, since he wasnt even sure how far they were from Kiri much less his clone.

The next few seconds went by in a blur. The worm lunged at Masaki instead of at Gage, which was surprising until it reared back in pain. Then it stood there, dumbfounded and frozen as if it was almost scared of something. Suddenly, the forest became dark again and Gage could hear the worm slithering away. 'I'm going after you...' He thought to himself, but then he remembered that he was on an escort. 'The driver...' His thoughts began to play out horrible scenes as he turned around to see that Luo had already atteneded to the man and was giving them orders not to pursue, but to instead continue on with the mission. He mentioned how the boys had failed to make sure that their cargo was safe, which made Gage cringe. Luo was right, he definitely forgot about the man and the cargo when the giant thing attacked them.

"Yes sir..." He muttered as he turned to Masaki, who was flowing through hand signs. 'That's clone jutsu...' He thought to himself as he recognized the first few signs, but the boy continued on with a few more complex signs. 'I should follow suit...' Gage thought to himself as he began to finger is way through a set of hand signs as well. "Nenshou Bunshin." He said out loud as he finished the signs. It was followed by a popping noise, smoke, then a clone of Gage. "Follow that thing..." Gage pointed in the direction that the giant hole-like trail the creature left behind and his clone simply nodded and disappeared into the trees.

"Good idea Masaki..." He muttered to the boy as they helped the driver secure his cargo. It didn't take long for them to do so, but Gage caught a glance at the Mizukage. He too was helping in his own way. The man had chopped away at the trees blocking their path and left just enough room for their passage. 'He's strong...' Gage thought as he walked back to his position in front of the cart.

"Hey Masaki, at the next encounter take care of the driver then come and back me up. I'm no good with helping people. Stay on your guard I can see the outline of our village now." He told the boy pointing directly in front of them. They only had a few miles left, but Gage was sure something would happen. This time, he would be ready for it.

This clone is incapable of using jutsu, and does not share it's memories with the user.

Masaki turned to the boy after he created a bunshin. "Oh can you track your bunshin too?" he asked naively, he wasn't entirely sure what other good a bunshin would do in this situation, after all the snake was probably too strong for a bunshin to prove any use otherwise.

The next thing he said however turned Masaki's slightly better mood into a very dark one. He glared at him. Not very good at protecting people so he wanted Masaki do it? It was all he could do not to snarl, though his voice wasn't far from it when he spoke. "You do it." He would of course try not to put the man and carriage in trouble, maybe even try to attack in a more useful manner, but for Gage to ask him to just stay back and out of thefight and defend only? He tried to calm his voice a little after a moment when he tried again. "I don't know much defensive jutsu, I don't think I could be much use if I avoid the fight."
