Well isn't that a good thing?
Too many humans = global warming,scarce food, ect.
It's how we can break apart the weak from the strong.


Having genetic diversity is good for the population though. For example, you have the supposed "strong" individuals, which all have the same DNA. Then, a new strand of virus or bacteria formed, but the "strong" individual doesn't have the gene to fight off the virus. The "weak" individuals did, but, hey, you kill em....and so have you killed the "strong" individuals.
A small population is prone to positive-feedback loops of inbreeding and genetic drift that draw the population down an extintction vortex.

Also, a population crashes from a having an upside-down population pyramid, because the younger generation (working adults) won't generate enough of taxes and services to fit the need of the bigger and older generation (retired people). Thus, crap be fallin'......
