Dan was about to ask how she knew he was across the hall from her when her skirt lifted slightly from an upward breeze and he bit into the apple again as she caught her dress before it blew any higher up like some kind of Marylin Monroe experience but in smaller scale. He nodded and smiled as he chewed the apple. She was really cute how she laughed and held the door for him. He walked onto the elevator and thanked her after chewing the piece in his mouth.
"So how do you know I am across from your room?" Dan asked finally as the elevator made its way to the 3rd floor.

Lisa smiled as Dan joined her in the elevator. She caught the darting of his eyes and smiled, more to herself, a secretive smile. Once he, and his luggage, were safely inside the elevator she pressed the button with the number 3. It took on an orange glow beneath her finger. She turned her attention back to Dan. "I am room 311." She said matter-of-factly. "Usually in hotels one side of the hall is odd numbers, the other side is even numbers. There may be a bit of a distance between the rooms, but it is still a possibility that you are just across the hall from me." Lisa said smiling cheerfully. "Does it bother you that we might have rooms across from each other?" She asked with a slight wrinkle in her forehead, and a worried expression on her face.

"N-No not at all!" Dan said waving his hands suddenly. "I am glad to be so close to you! No I mean I am glad our rooms are close to each other!" Dan didn't mean to say it so loud or to say he liked being so close to Lisa. It was a slip of the tongue and he shoved the apple back in his mouth sure that his face must have been turning as red as the apple.

Lisa tilted her head to the side as she watched with discreet curiosity and entertainment. Her lips made a slight oval shape, and her eyes were slightly squinting at him. Her oval lips turned into a smile. She turned her face away, trying to hide the smile as she suddenly became fascinated with the little light strip that beeped when they moved up a floor. Beep. 2. Beep. 3. There was a slight lurch and the great, metal doors opened wide. She stepped out quickly and turned to wait for Dan. She had been given just enough time to regain her composure.

Dan averted his eyes just in case her dress should flutter again when she got off the elevator and he followed after her. He wasn't sure how she felt after what he blurted. He could tell her he was kidding in there about being close to her but that would not only be false but could be harmful to both of them.
"So uhmm...about what I said in the elevator..." Dan began to say quietly. It was the closest he came to confessing how much he really cared about her. She made him the happiest he has been in the longest time.

Lisa did not notice his actions this time. She was looking around at the decorations in the hallway. The elevator had been a little awkward. Hopefully though they could get though that and enjoy their time at the convention, and getting to better know each other.
Lisa turned to face Dan. Her expression was unreadable. Then after a moment she smiled softly. "Dan, let's take this weekend to get to know who we are in person. While we may be dressed up, and playing different parts I think we can still get a good picture of who the other is. Is that alright?" She asked tilting her head to the side again. She had to use courage to talk to him. He was, after all, a man, and she was a lady in a strange place. She trusted, or hope she trusted, that he would be kind to her and not push her into doing anything she didn't want to. It was hard to think of Dan that way, but she had to be realistic too. "Let us take it day by day for this weekend. Maybe we can talk about it more once the convention has ended. Okay?" She was trying to take a stand, to be in control. What would Dan say to this? She waited nervously for a response.

Dan exhaled and nodded not realizing his lack for words had him holding his breath. Relief filled hm and he nodded. "I am glad girls mature faster then us boys. Honestly I look forward to having fun in the next couple days. It is good we get this out of the way before we start so we can enjoy ourselves without me saying more embarrassing along the way." Dan said with a slight chuckle. "Thanks for not being mad at me Lisa."

"Why would I be mad? Madness ruins everything. You are a valued friend, and this is something that I have really been looking forward to. Let's just promise each other that we won't talk about this until the weekend is over." She laughed at Dan's comment. "Besides, silly is what we are, don't fret. We'll have fun. Let us just be ourselves as much as we can. So, should we go check out the rooms now?" Lisa asked.

"Yeah that sounds good." Dan said looking looking Lisa in her eyes. Those same lovely eyes that he saw in the pictures she sent him. He felt his heart beating in his chest but did not want to draw attention to to it. Being rejected reminded him of the the first time he was rejected by someone he really cared for but it was lessened by the fact that she did not turn him down completely. She merely asked to get to know him better and that he learn about her in the same time.
"Now let's see here. I guess the 3 is the floor so the room number would be this way." Dan said looking at how the door numbers moved down the hall. It was a lot like how addresses were arranged on a street.

Lisa nodded. "Exactly!" She exclaimed and started off down the hall. "311. 311." She whispered, and continued on down the hall until she found the room with the large golden numbers. "Here it is." She looked back over her shoulder to see the room across from her. As she had predicted it was 312. She signed and pulled the key card out of it's little sleeve and turned towards her door. "Are you ready?" She asked looking back at Dan. She was waiting for him to prepare for opening his door.

Dan nodded and moved to his own door. This hotel was much nicer then the last place he was in but there were similar things like the electronic key cards. "Thanks for meeting me at the airport Lisa. I am a little bit of a nervous mess without having someone I trust nearby when experiences are new like this." Dan said as he put the card up to the door. "Do you think we have time for dinner tonight or do you think we should retire early to get to the convention early?"

"It's not a problem." Lisa said sliding her card key into the lock. The light turned green and she opened the door to reveal the darkened room. The great window let in the light of the gloomy day outside. Stepping into the door way to block the door from closing Lisa turned to face Dan. "Well I think we should go register today, then maybe afterwords we could go to dinner. Dutch." She said with a somewhat stern, but kind expression. "How does that sound?" She asked pleasantly. Looking down at her watch she announced, "It's 4:25 right now. How about we meet in twenty minutes and head over to the convention center?" Lisa asked smiling.

"I have never had Dutch as far as I remember but it sounds like a plan. I'll see you in 20 then." Dan said as his door opened as well and he began to move in backward to smile at Lisa as he entered the room. As the door closed before him Dan sighed as he realized he forgot to check for light switches. Not wanting to look like a total noob he felt along the wall until he found the switch that illuminated his room. Dan had 20 minutes to try to make sure he continued to make the best impression he could on Lisa.

Lisa opened her mouth to explain dutch, but Dan had already disappeared into the dark room. She watched him leave, and after a moment she also stepped into her room, turning on the room light first. The room was pleasant, with a fluffy bed pressed right against the wall. A bed that could fit two. The room though was a tender blue, light, and beautiful. Lisa pulled her luggage into the room and set it into the chair sitting beside the bright window. The room was quiet, so quiet. She found the remote and turned on the television. Nothing extraordinary was on so she left it on PBS where they were playing Clifford, the big red dog.
Lisa opened her luggage and quickly found her hair brush. She grabbed her tooth brush, and tooth paste, and even her shampoo and conditioner. She took all of her toiletries into the bathroom area. Once she got there she decided she had enough time for a shower. That way she could freshen up, spray a little perfume on her wrists, style her hair so it looked a little more appealing.

Dan was nervous but freshening up soon took care of that nervousness. He looked at his face in the mirror and touched it feeling the fuzz returning to his face again. He wondered if she liked beards. He could always find out later if he remembers to ask as he put shaving cream on his face and he carefully shaved the fuzz on his face. Then off to the shower he went. He wanted to die his hair black for his costume but he wasn't sure how well that would come out. Maybe Lisa would help him out. As it is he would grow out a beard like Hughes if he could in time but instead he is using a fake beard.
Time passed quickly as Dan changed his clothes to a white dress shirt and some khaki pants. His hair still semi damp was slicked back as it grew naturally. He was hopeful that he wasn't over doing it but he wanted to make a really good impression on Lisa.
