"Hmm?" Raine's eyes glittered in curiosity as she headed towards Blake. What was it that he contributed? The curiosity flickered into slight amusement as she saw the jerky. Aww, how sweet. She mused while laying down her part.
"Hey." Raine swallowed the laugh that rose at his blush and eagerly picked up the piece of jerky. "Believe it or not, but I rarely get chicken." She placed the jerky in between her lips and slowly took a bite out of it, "It's good~"

Blake licked his lips and broke off a bit of the bread, trying to be not so obvious that he was watching Raine carefully for her reaction. He smiled when she seemed pleased. "I got it for helping my neighbor. He was having trouble when a branch went through his roof during a storm, so I helped him get it back up. He raises his own chickens."

"Wow." Raine paused and held up a piece of jerky that she had about bit into. "I wonder what it's like raising your own prey." She pursed her lips, wouldn't that be a dampener to raise them and then have to kill them? She preferred the thrill of the hunt and how their prey always had a slight chance.
But it did sound handy having animals on hand. Especially if the winter was harsh and your supplies low. Raine shook her head, still she wouldn't find herself doing such a thing any time soon.
"That was nice of you to help a neighbor like that, Blake." Raine nodded as she swallowed another bite, "So, where exactly are you settled...if you don't mind me asking?"

Blake shook his head. "Apparently, it's not so bad. He sells the eggs and has food right there when he needs it. They tend to be special occasion meals though. I know he used one for his daughter's birthday."
He scratched at the back of his neck bashfully at the praise, his mouth full of bread, thus unable to reply right away. "Where?" He looked up at the sun, then pointed. "A bit south of here. It's in the woods, a short way from the shore." He scratched at an ear this time. "What about you? If you don't mind?"

"Ah. It seems convenient. Though maybe nto for one like me." Raine flushed, "I mean I don't see myself being able to get close to a creature and then..." She shook her head, "I guess I'm silly for thinking that way. But I'm gone on hunts all the time as well so there's no way I could truly take care of any animals."
"Ah!" Raine grinned before pointing to a bit west of Blake's home direction. "I'm surrounded by the forest, but it seems that we may live close." She laughed lightly, "I mean we even found the same clearing!"
(( ^^ That's okay. It confuses me sometimes as well. 8'3 Though I think a lot of my taurs live in Nivae's forest on the main island.

Blake smile gently. "He tries to not connect to the chicks, and his children have been raised to think of them like gardeners. Nurse a plant until it grows, then use it. Makes it a little easier. Though, some gardeners are touchy about their plants, too."
He cocked his head, his gaze following where the blue hand pointed. "Well, isn't that a coincidence." He chuckled softly. "I was certainly surprised to see you again... Pleasantly surprise, but still surprised."

"Ah, I know that." Raine smiled as she thought of a couple of overly obsessive gardeners. Those plants were closer than children at times to them! Highly amusing, yet slightly creepy at the same time.
"Same!" Raine blushed faintly, "I really am glad, ya know." She forced a soft chuckle, "Glad to see that you survived after the hunt." A teasing wink followed before she finished her part of the meal. Well that was satisfying.

Blake looked up at Raine's assurances, his tail swaying slowly behind him. It had been some time since he'd been able to just sit and talk with a friend. Usually, he was either practicing, hunting, or chasing around his young daughter, nearly a teen now. He hoped the girl turned out to be at least half as good as Raine was...
He perked his ears at the second half of her statement and bared his teeth playfully. "Psh! I did not merely survive after that hunt!" He said, sticking out his chest in an exaggeratedly manly manner. "I have lived."
His chest deflated slightly at another thought. "Though, lately, I think I've just been surviving." He said with an uncertain laugh.
(( Only part of it is labeled though. So it doesn't really matter which islands I pick for my taur? ))

"Oh, yes!" Raine laughed at Blake's reply. For some reason she felt really light when she was spending time with the wolftaur. Around her pride she was always the mother, the peace maker. But this-this was really a nice break.
Now suddenly she was back in mother mode. But she was just as natural in it as she was while playing around. "Just...surviving?" Raine frowned and leaned towards Blake, her expression full of concern. Maybe she was overreacting, but Raine felt worry at that uncertain laugh. "Blake, is there something going on?"
Raine bit her bottom lip, uncertain. "I mean - maybe it's not my place to ask but are you doing okay? I mean really okay?" She glanced to the side shyly.
(Oh! wow, I didn't realize that. xD The new stuff's still a WIP so I guess Syr hasn't gotten around to relabeling which species goes to which island.
If I remember correctly it was -
Haven Tree (centaur main village)
Meon Garan (wolftaur Isle)
Nathair Inis (Foxtaur Isle)
Draiocht (cattaur Isle)
But really taurs can travel in boats so they can live where it's most convenient for them. ^^)

Eye's widening, Blake felt the back of his neck start to burn. He hadn't meant to worry her... He thought back to what he had just been thinking. Maybe, could he have someone to talk to about it finally? It was so embarrassing to him.
He looked down at his hands. "Well, things are okay. I mean, it's not exactly something bad. It- well-" He huffed softly, eyes still downcast. Now that he'd started, he felt the need to finish, otherwise, he'd burst. "Have you ever been pretty much thrown into a situation you weren't ready for? That you had no warning or preparation for that would change your life, the way you live?" He pulled at the back of his neck. What was she going to think, someone as good and proper as her?
(( Okay!
So, since we've just discovered that Blake and Raine live near each other, do you already have an island that she lives on? ))

Raine let out a sigh of relief before looking back at Blake. He seemed torn about his situation and that made the wolftaur even more curious. What could possibly be up to make Blake act this way?
"Isn't a taur's whole life basically full of such things?" Raine asked softly before blushing. "I mean! For me at least but I guess that's because of my slightly chaotic 'family'. " She frowned thoughtfully before continuing, "So I guess yes. Emi and Eri are like adopted daughters that I picked up as really young teens, I never expected to have daughters either! But I couldn't turn them down."
She stopped and gasped softly while hiding her mouth behind a hand, "Sorry for rambling like that." She peeked up at Blake, "What's happened to make your way of life change so suddenly?"
((Well I really hadn't set her home in gold, but I guess she lives in Meon Garan ^^ It makes the most sense compared to her wolftaur surrounded history. ))

Blake could only give a half smile. Picking up a child was a little different than... "It's okay. I have a feeling I'm about to do the same." He took in a breath, blowing it out in a half growl. "I found out that... that I have a daughter. A blood daughter." He glanced up at Raine, then quickly back down at his hands. "She was dropped at my house when she was a baby. She's almost a teen by now I think." He bit down on his lip, his hands clenching against emotion. "Raine, I have no idea what I'm doing. I was raised to hunt basically, by a woman who wasn't really my mother, though with the way she acted, might as well have been a man herself, and a guy who wasn't around often enough to really mean a whole lot to me. I've been free to live how I want, and suddenly, everything is about this little girl thrown into my life and that's all I've been doing. I don't know how to raise a girl, or any kind of kid!"
He put a palm against his forehead, trying to push his thoughts into place. "I don't know if what I'm doing is right or wrong. Or if I could possibly be enough. Or-" He did growl this time. "Or or or or. There are too many 'or's! It was fine when I was alone, but now I have to think for her! I don't know what to do." Having flung it off his chest, he hung his head in defeat. The words didn't say it so plainly, but the sounds of his words did. More than annoyed by the wrench in his gears, like he had been when the child had first arrived, he was scared.

Raine's eyes widened. A blood daughter! Blake?! The wolftaur was surprised by the news but chastened herself. Why should that surprise her? Blake wasn't a kid he was an adult now. The news didn't make her see him negatively, it just pointed out once again that he wasn't a child. But did that mean that he had a ma-
Her thoughts cut the thought off as Blake continued. "Oh, Blake." Raine's voice barely rose about a whisper, but she was already touching his shoulder. Without thinking about it, Raine pulled Blake into a comforting hug. "You...really are having a time with this aren't you? But it'll be okay, I'm sure. Trust me, I can tell that you love your daughter. That by itself is a strong thing when raising a child."
But still he was so alone! And to raise a girl...maybe a boy would be easier, but Raine knew how difficult females could seem to a male. The thought made her smile faintly. She would love having a daughter over a son though.
The thought made her pull back. "Blake!" Raine gasped and looked seriously at the other wolftaur, "I'll help you! Let me be a mother?" She bit her lip shyly, "Not a pack mother, but a real mother.... figure?" She blushed suddenly realizing how odd her request sounded.

Blake wasn't used to the comforting, but he didn't fuss about it to save his man image. He closed his eyes, inhaling deeply. He heard her words, but with spinning thoughts, they didn't register, even when Raine pushed away a moment. "I was so annoyed when she first arrived. I'm sure she noticed. What if-" Finally, it registered. His eyes snapped up, meeting those gazing so eagerly back at him.
"You... Want to help?" Not only a little help. What she was suggesting was a whole other level of help. One he probably wouldn't even have dreamed of asking anyone! He didn't know what to say. He should be jumping all over it, but could he really ask he to do such a thing, even if she was the one to offer it?
"Ar- are you sure? I mean..." He looked closer at Raine, at her experienced eyes, so sure of what she was saying. At the shy but excited flush on her cheeks. It was all so sudden. Like his daughter's arrival... "Would... you be coming to us, or would we be coming to you?" He asked, his stupefied way of expressing his acceptance of the idea.

Raine's heart about dropped as she watched Blake. Maybe he wouldn't take her seriously. She realized that her request was completely random, but the wolftaur felt that if she hadn't spoken up then she never would have.
Raine looked at Blake and smiled sheepishly. "Blake, what's easier on you?" Her ears twitched slightly as she thought of her 'home.' The small place that was easily abandoned for a hunt. None of her pack had any real solid homes except maybe Akemi who kept to herself at times.
"I mean, maybe I should come to you." She flushed, "I mean if you want me to! I wouldn't want to intrude after all. Oh! I don't even know..." Her gaze turned away as she wondered how the daughter might take her arrival.
