The last link is reliable enough. And why talk about someone from my own State?!
But as I think someone has already stated, Comic Books and Gaia is different. Gaia is PG-13 and comic are... well... anything. You just have to be able to read them to be able to buy them. Gaia tracks down and tries to stop people younger then 13 to enter.

Okay, so from what you posted, it sounds like they have more to worry about from Alruna's rose and other "obscene" avatars than they do from cigarettes. I mean, ALL of our characters on here "look underage." So I don't think they're worried about obscenity charges. Although I agree with Yami that it's a completely different situation, and probably doesn't apply, anyway.

mmm i agree with tim. if anything 'and i dont want this personally' the obsene avatar items should have gone first. like the enar naked ones, such as that suggestive alruna's rose poses. i mean really, bondage, here?

Even after all of that, parents (and the American Cancer Society... anyone notice they've started advertising here?) would probably argue that 14-17 year olds could be influenced by Gaia's depiction of smoking, even though most kids in that age range are capable of independent thought.
So, as it stands, Gaia has opted to piss off its users rather than pissing off parents and a powerful heath promoting organization, with another key motivation being money... I guess they're hoping the American Cancer Society's ads will bring in revenue.
Like I said, I'm not exactly happy about it, but like some of you guys point out, at least they aren't removing the... um... more anime-ish content. ("Why are you naked?" "FEELS GOOD, MAN!")

Ummm.....Knox.......I have put together a bondage one just to scare the crap out of my girlfriend and I still own all the items....Maybe we should argue that point as a counter point. I think sex would be something far worse in the eyes of parents than smoking. Of course then Gaia might take them away too.......When will the bullshit end?

My feelings on this situation have been stated by others already.
It's not like I want people to smoke, since I can't stand it myself, but suddenly taking away these items is ridiculous. Normally Gaia at least gives a heads up to us when they remove an item, so that would have been nice. Removing them at all was silly, since I feel smoking in movies and in real life has much more effect on people than pixels on a site.

I really missed something big here, didn't I? This is ridiculous. I mean, I hate smoking. I have never smoked and will never smoke. I even hate it when somebody is smoking within ten feet of me. And even I think that this is a completely bullshit maneuver on Gaia's part.

This was probably one of the worse ideas Gaia's had in a long run of bad ideas. Next they'll probably go back and remove the Carol's Enchanted Cigar pose, just to spite those who still want to buy a cigarette.
I could see a lot of people leaving the site over this. More than are probably joining now because of it. If they keep up with these idiotic ideas, they'll probably lose over half of the users.

I'm not saying it's right or wrong. I just know that a whole lot of belly aching and vicious conversation will be the result should such a move take place.
