Shrantic Fresnel My dad has a Chinese SKS, with a PLAA 'Red Star' scope. GOD is it a nice gun. It has absolutely NO recoil, it just shakes like mad. For the price, you could certainly do worse. Curious though... why is it you want intermediate? Because the only guns we have either kick like mules (hunting rifles, shotguns) or can't reach out to 100 yards without dropping IMMENSELY. (.22) Also, .30-06 is really, really expensive around here, and shotgun slugs just don't seem to agree with our shotgun. (2 foot groups at 50 yards, not human error.) I believe that there is a a pistol-caliber conversion for .30-06, but I could be COMPLETELY wrong on this. I know there is one for .303.

I think SPG has .30-06, .303, and .308 conversions to .32ACP.

So, I found an unfired Chinese SKS for $300 on gunbroker. This a good deal? It's got original parts and everything.
I don't like the fact that it's got a spike bayonet, and not a blade, though. >.>

Have you seen how they sit? You would cut the ever-loving ******** out of your hand with a blade bayonet. Good deal. Don't hesitate if you think you've found a good deal. Pounce on it so someone else doesn't get it. Then arrange everything as needed. Seeing your age, YOU can't buy the rifle. A parent will have to buy it and gift it to you. It will have to be shipped to an FFL, who will have to do the usual paperwork. All of them have transfer fees, some more fair than others. Once it arrives, the purchaser will have to fill out the 4473, pay the NICS fee (and of course have it done), and then whatever local laws there are.

Anyway, $300 for a Norinco seems to be the going rate these days. Personally I'd go after a Russian one. Also, what is the SKS you found? Link to it? Do some research on it. http://yooperj.com/go the to SKS section. uryu ishida Shrantic So, I found an unfired Chinese SKS for $300 on gunbroker. This a good deal? "The Sheet Metal Receiver Model is a very crudely made SKS. It is similar to the "Last Ditch" guns made by the Germans and Japanese towards the end of World War II. " That's that model of gun. It really doesn't have much historical significance so it really isn't worth much. Go to yooperj.com click SKS search complete rifles and search for 'sheet metal'. Image just above bears the same stamps and markings as the one on gunbroker.

Last one I saw was a blade bayonet. It's still a spike, but it is shaped like a blade. The positioning doesn't allow for a blade, and it's not like it can come off to be used as a utilitarian tool.

I hear that those guns are very widely hit-and-miss, some being okay and really reliable, some being utter crap and really reliable. I want about 3MOA.

Anyway, don't get that last ditch sheet metal SKS in that last link. Yeah Shrantic, I saw 'rack grade' M1 Carbines, Inland and Saginaw for around $900 in one shop, uh nyet. Nothing fancy, post war sights and bayonet lug. And don't try for those Universals or whatever those new production M1 Carbines are, they're junk.

Guy I talked to must not know s**t about the Carbine's lower prices. stare You can get a perfectly respectable Carbine from the CMP. Or someone who is a member, anyway. I got mine, plus 150 rounds and 3 magazines, with $500 flat. I WOULD have gotten an oiler and sling with the deal, but he didn't have a spare. Hell, I coudl have gotten one HELL of a collector for that, though. He has like 5 M1 Carbines, and the one he handed me at first had full stock cartouches, a fireball barrel, first-gen sights and barrel band, just plain out 100% original and in damn fine shape, too. After he got to looking he was like "damn, that's my best one. Oh well, that's the deal I'm giving you." I didn't want a collector, I wanted a shooter. So I traded for my mixmaster Inland with (for me) better sights and the second-generation barrel band. It gauged exactly the same (1.5-2 on barrel), so it shot just as well.
