"She's alright," Faolan said, taking a moment from cuddling his daughter and talking soothingly to her in didikai. "A woman was hitting on me and I guess th' bairns didnae like her perfume."
Douglas had headed after Ellandra, bringing a book she'd dropped in her hurry. "You left this behind, Miss Aria."
Faolan eyed the man over Bel then looked at Elle. "Friend o' yours?"

Ellanda sniffed the air around them and wrinkled her nose. "No wonder, that perfume's atrocious. . ." She set the books aside in an empty slot on the shelf, asking Faolan with her eyes to get to hold her daughter. When the man she'd just met came up behind her she blinked. "Oh, thank you, I hadn't realized. . . um. . ." She trailed off, at an absolute loss for words.

Faolan gently handed Bel over to her mother, soothing Sam to keep him from crying, too, while watching the strange man that had approached.
"It's no problem" Douglas said, setting the book with the others that Ellandra had set down. "It was nice meeting you, but I can see you're busy. Before I go, though, let me give you one of the pamphlets for the local writers symposium that's coming up." He fished out a brochure and set it with the books as well. "I'll see you around. Nice to meet you both." He gave a polite nod and headed off.
"Can't take you anywhere," Faolan teased, leaning over to kiss the top of Ellandra's head.

Ellandra mumbled a shy "Thank you," to the retreating back of the other author, before turning her attention fully to her daughter, rocking her and humming to her, calming the distraught infant down until the little one was blinking up at her, happy that her Mama was back again. The brunette woman looked up at Faolan and made a face at him.
"You're one to talk, drawing people about you like moths to a flame."

"I cannae help bein' handsome," Faolan chuckled, moving to pick up the books Elle had set down and put them with his own stack. "We should see if they have books on dog care."

Ellandra smiled at Faolan, still rocking her little daughter and adjusting the little headband the infant wore. "Hmm, yes, that would be a good idea - perhaps one with a lot of illustrations so that Rhian can follow it," she said quietly, and tilted her head a bit. "Maybe while we're out we could look for something special for Ziazan and Rhian. . . . I'm sure they'd like a surprise or two. . ."

"It's hard t' surprise Zia, but it probably wouldn't mind a present anyway," Faolan agreed, looking down at Sam, the infant's ears wiggling about like antennae.

Ellandra's gaze went from Bel to Sam, and she tilted her head. "Hmm........ sometimes I wonder what he could be thinking about when he's listening so much. Then again, I wonder what little Bel thinks when she's grabbing my hair, too," the brunette said with a fond, motherly smile.

"Sam's just trying to sort his little world out, I guess," Faolan said, stroking his son's orange hair gently. "Bel's just tactile. She can see, so I guess she wants to know what things she sees feels like."

Ellandra smiled softly at her little ones. "Well, their world's going to get bigger eventually; best the figure out what they can of it before it grows too much."

"I'm not really sure how big Sam's world will get," Faolan said softly, looking down at his son. "He'll have Bel to look after him, though, at least."

Ellandra stepped closer and kissed Faolan on the cheek. "His world will be at least as big as Farstep. And there's not much of the world outside of Farstep that's worth experiencing, anyway - aside, perhaps, from Elst's garden. And coffee shops with cheesecake."

"This be true," Faolan chuckled, getting Bel from his wife to snuggle the infant back into her cozy pouch. "Well, I got all th' books I was pretty much lookin' for, 'cept fiction. You wanna mosey tha' way an' give me a chance t' browse some before we leave?"

Faolan headed over to the fiction section, carrying the books for himself and Elle. He went to the mystery section, wanting some new detective books.
