Acia smiled as the wick caught on and Osu's eyes took on a similar glint. "Osu, I want you to look at the fire, try to feel it without touching it.." she tried to describe how she worked with rock. She didn't understand fire itself as an element but she hoped that his ability to work with it would be similar to her own, otherwise she wouldn't be able to teach him anything.
Realising that Osu might find the concept of 'touching without touching' - he was still young afterall - she tried to describe further "Try to make believe a bit, Osu, imagine that the fire is warming you, that it's all around you. Maybe even that you can feel its warmth in your belly, or your heart..". She sat back, relaxing a little. It might take him a little while to grasp this, she was here to answer his questions, help him but she couldn't connect with the fire for him.

Osu looked confused. He didn't understand what At-chee meant by feeling it without touching it. He didn't want to reach out and touch the fire - a vague memory from when he had been even younger was that touching fire caused pain. It was pretty, but it hurt too.
Then At-chee told him to pretend. Ok, he could do that! He closed his eyes and tried to picture a biiig fire; one that was all around him and At-chee - one so big that it filled the room. He stayed like this for a few moments, screwing his eyes closed in earnest concentration.
But nothing seemed to happen. He wasn't even sure what was supposed to happen.. He opened his eyes again. The room was all in order, and not in the least bit on fire. The only flame was the little candlelight flickering unchanged in front of him. This was hard!

Acia could see that Osu was having a little trouble. She could understand that herself. Her power had come without anyone to each her how and gradually explain things so the results had been.... unpredictable. Perhaps an example would help a little.
She leant over the side of the veranda and picked up a handful of sand. Bringing it back in front of herself she channeled some of the energy she could feel within it. It was dull and low but almost alive feeling. She funneled it up next to the flame he was concentrating on, making a sand version of the flickering light.
"Bring it into you" she repeated, pulling some of the energy of the sand towards her. Tiny particles drifted from it to just before her. She made them all push out, as if they surrounded her. "Kind of like this except... imagine the sand as warmth, heat." Maybe that was what was wrong, she thought. She was assuming that the energy in fire would be warm but maybe it was different... the energy in stone was particular to stone, she couldn't know what flame 'felt' like. "If that doesn't work maybe try imagining ... the sun?" it was one of the few large fiery things she could think he might have seen.

Osu watched in awe as At-chee moved the sand without touching it. That was so cool! So.. if he could do this then he'd be able to move fire about? That would be fun. Determined to get the hang of this, he stared intently at the candle, willing the flame, the warmth and the light to come to him. The fire didn't move like the sand had. In fact, it did nothing.
With his childish impatience, Osu was beginning to get frustrated. Why wouldn't the fire come to him!? His face crestfallen, he tried the last thing that At-chee had said. He pictured the sun, surrounding him in warmth and light. But he couldn't connect it to the candle. Try as he might, this control thing wasn't working for him.
Upset and disappointed, tears began to well up in the normally cheerful Aerandir's eyes. "I can't! It not working! I don't know!" he said, clenching one little hand into a fist and using the other to scrub at his face.
With this outburst, the candle in front of him flared up, the flame reaching a size that it never would have normally. Then, just as abruptly, the fire died down to a tiny glow on the wick. For all his concentration and effort before, Osu received more of a result when he wasn't even trying.

Acia's face went through several transformations as she watched Osu. Intrigue, concern, sympathy and then happiness as the little Aerandir finally connected with the flame. "Yes, Osu!" she cheered him on. "Can you do that again?" she asked, watching him carefully.

Lowering his arm down from his face, Osu stared for a moment as the flame burst into life. His tears had abruptly stopped, to be replaced by an astonished expression. He... did it!? With the tear stains drying on his face, he broke into a smile. He did it! Now... he just had to remember exactly what it was that he did..
Uh oh..
Frowning in thought, Osu tried to remember exactly what it was that he had done. When he had exclaimed out loud, the fire had flickered. Something had changed then.. He hadn't realised at first, being preoccupied and all, but something had felt different.
But what?
"Trying to remember.." the little spellweaver said, trailing off. "I don' know... I feel sad.. then angry.. then 'whoosh!' Not pretend heat.."
Maybe the best way to do it again would be to try to copy the way he felt before. Staring at the flame, he tried again. But the heat of his emotions a few moments ago had left him. Osu struggled to repeat his previous trick. Then he felt it once more. A warmth swirled through him briefly before leaving again. The candle flickered for the briefest of moments, but no more.

His connection had been made, it seemed. She let him play with the feeling for a little while before getting to her feet and walking over to the candle, gently blowing it out. She smiled apologetically to Osu. She picked it up whilst talking to him. "Thats very good, Osu" she praised I'm going to give Ieyasu this candle and these matches and I want you to practice doing what you just did every day."
She walked through the house, grabbing a bag and beckoning Osu to follow her. She put the items into the bag as she headed up towards the hot springs. Grabbing a pen and some paper she scribbled a note to Ieyasu, telling him how Osu was to practice and how he might help the young Aerandir. She shoved it in the bag and stopped just at the door to the hot spring where she could just about see the top of Yasu's head.
She kneeled down and passed the bag to Osu. "You go back to Ieyasu now and give him this bag..." she said, patting his head lightly. "Come back to me in a couple of weeks and we'll see how you've gotten on" she smiled, waiting to see that he got back to Ieyasu and passed the bag on.

"Ok!" Osu replied enthusiastically. Now that he had seen that he could do what At-chee asked of him, he had cheered right up again. Even if he had only managed to make a candle flicker. He took the bag from At-chee and started into the springs, before suddenly remembering. The young Aerandir ran back to the older spellweaver, grinning happily.
"Thank you At-chee! I practice and get good at control!" he exclaimed, before spinning on his heel and darting off to find Yassu.
Ieyasu heard the sound of running feet before he saw who they were coming from. It didn't take a genius to guess who it was, especially not when he heard his name being shouted. Osu careened around the side of the springs, a bag in one hand and his oversized bamboo staff in the other. Ieyasu grinned.
"Hey, you. Have fun?"
Osu grinned cheerfully at Yassu. "Yup! I moved fire!" he exclaimed proudly. Then, he remembered the bag. "At-chee said to give you this!" He held out the bag excitedly.
"Woah, hang on a minute. Let me get out and dried first." Ieyasu vaulted lightly out of the spring, quickly toweling himself dry before dressing. Taking the bag from Osu, planning on looking inside when they got home, the kitsune slung it over his shoulder. "You ready to go home then?" he asked. He wondered if Acia was around. She didn't seem to like him much, but if he saw her, he'd need to be sure to thank her for her help.
Osu nodded. "Yeah!" Spinning, he turned to run on ahead. Today had been so cool!

Backdated Acia walked towards the doorway, her paws silent on the wood flooring. She was sure she had heard someone coming up the corridor. Maybe it was someone who was as shy as she and hadn't wanted to knock?
Shuffling warily, Acia reached the door. Her golden yellow fur shone in a streak of light as she reached for the handle and swung it open.
At her feet lay two items, the first was a beautiful orchid
Quote: Dear Aly and Acia- I grew evyone plants instead of making cards for Valuntine Day. It's grafted from some a the plants that lived after the balkano esploded. It's easy to take care of. You just keep it in the sun and water it! I hope you like it! Happy Valuntine Day! Love Handa.

She picked it up, reading the note and smiled. She hadn't seen the young horse / swan in quite some time and made a mantel note to go and see her soon, she must be nearly ready to go to the Isle, soon.
She placed the orchid inside, on the low table, careful not to bash it's fragile blossoms and returned to pick up the other item - an evelope.

Gently tearing it open, she pulled out the heart inside. She could smell something like ripe fruit, all sugary sweet and ready to eat and her eyes drunk in the deep purple of the heart. Closing the door over, she carefully held the heart and placed it beside the flowers, so that Aly'd see them both when he came in. She'd have to make sure that the plant was kept wl watered and that the little heart was put up on the wall.
For a brief moment she wondered at the young Aerandir who seemed to becoming used to very human traditions. Pondering over that, she climbed back into her attic.
