Layna glared at Ceon's retreating back, and snarled, extracting her other arm from underneath the couch and slowly pulled herself free, crying out softly and her legs came free. She whimpered softly as she felt the flow of energy flow throughout her body, knitting bones back together, but also weakening her.

She leaned her body against the crumbled wall and snarled at herself, digging her nails into her arm. How could she be so stupid? Why was it the first person she saw upon returning was stupid Ceon? It irritated her, even though she knew she had no control over whom she came in contact with.

Her long hair, which hung nearly to her knees was a mess of knots and blood. She tugged her fingers through it silently, thankful for the small task that turned her mind inward. She licked at her cracked lips and tasted dried blood caked there. It brought a ravenous pang to her stomach, and she quickly squelched it before it could grow.

She once again found herself leaning against the doorframe leading into Ceon's apartment, her mind roiling with emotions unfathomable.

Ceon walked out of his room and sat on the windowsill across from Layna. The moonlight cast a long silhouette of Ceon, the head of his shadow almost touching Layna's feet. Do....do you not want me to love you, Layna? Would you rather me not have anything to do with your life or our kids' lives? Ceon pulled out a cigarette and a lighter from his pocket. He hardly ever smoked, but this was a special, high stress occasion. He flicked the bic and sucked in a long drag of nicotine ridden tobacco.

As Ceon pulled out the cigarette, Layna wrinkled her nose and strode across the room toward Ceon. She yanked it from his fingers and threw it out the window. "Disgusting habit." She growled. It irked her seeing people smoke, ever since Zarathos. Her face was muddled, unable to oull a true emotion to the surface. instead she just stared at Ceon, trying to think of a way to answer his question. Instead, she reached to the chain that hung loosely down her front. On the chain was a small object which glinted in the light. She yanked the chain, breaking it's bond and lightly let it fall into Ceon's lap. "I truthfully cannot answer your question, Ceon. My heart is that of a monster's, and it twists everyone whom it holds dear." She whispered, staring at the ring that now lay in Ceon's lap. Three times men had offered a ring and a promise to protect her. And each time, they were hurt because they were protecting her.

How could she live with that fact?

"I honestly don't know how you can love someone like me."

Ceon sat there looking at the ring he had given her all those years ago, then stood up, holding the ring between his thumb and index finger. "I can love you because we are both monsters, just different types of monsters.hope that easily I don't give up " He took Layna's left hand and slid the ring on her finger, watching it glisten in the moonlight. Ceon then proceeded to look back up into Layna's eyes. They had lost that animalistic glare that she had not an hour ago. "Layna....just kiss me once and then tell me that you absolutely feel nothing is left between us."

Layna almost felt like biting out as she felt her hand grabbed gently by Ceon's. It was such a foreign feeling to her that she paused and watched as he slipped the ring back to where it had not laid in over three years. It had a strange heaviness to it as it sat there and she frowned slightly. It was like a phantom manacle had been placed upon her, willing her to even try to escape. The last time it had rested upon her finger was after Ceon had "died". Since then, it had proved a painful reminder that life was fleeting. But was love?

She stared at Ceon with eyes that seemed as serenely clear as water. His face brought back hauning memories of when they had first met, when they had run happily in the snow. Those memories turned dark as she remembered Ceon's berserk freak out on her. Which side did she want? The soft side, whom she remembered kissing her gently... or the feral side which brought out the animal side of her.

Leaning forward, she gently kissed Ceon upon the lips. Was she ready to forgive him just like that? She shook her head slightly, and withdrew her lips from his, staring at him with a bottomless expression. But through everything, Ceon had been there... He had sired her two children, as was right for a female Lycan. Heirs were important. But Ceon created pain within her, and in her current life, pain was like some amazing drug, delivering her from her own torturous thoughts.

She breathed lightly through her nose and sighed deeply, before she leaned forward and pressed her lips more soundly against Ceon's, a hand wrapping into his hair and gripping with all the strength she could muster, which wasn't much. Tears dripped lightly down her cheeks, in anger and sorrow as everything seemed to break within her. The last three years she had managed to build a wall of ice against the torture of her emotions, but as she kissed Ceon, it was like that wall was melting, and everything flooded her.

She growled and soundly bit down upon Ceon's lip, licking softly as she pulled back away, releasing her hold on his hair. Her knees buckled and she lumped to the ground, burying her face in her hands, crying soundlessly. What had she done to deserve all this hardship? It seemed to follow her like a plague.

Ceon was shocked as Layna kissed him, and astonished when she did it again. He shook with passion as the taste of her lips ran through him like a flood. Like a boulder, the man crashed down next to Layna and embraced her, touching his head to hers. He reached up a hand and wiped away her tears, then whispered softly in her ear, "I've got you, Layna. I've got you. You're back, and I still love you."

As she cried, she felt terror fill her. What was she doing? Why was she breaking down, when for the past three years she had stood on as solid as metal? She wanted claw and bite and hurt this person who was now being all-too-nice to her, to break apart every semblance of loving him. Did she? How could she? She could not let go of the past, it was too much. Her mind roiled with memories, bitter and awful. Zarathos... Ceon... Razu... Each had fawned for her. Why? She was one single person in the world. She was plain, and furthermore her mind was as fragile as the shell of a bird's egg, waiting to crack open. So why was it they all had wanted her?

And why was it they had all died (not withstanding that Ceon had abruptly returned, and so had Zarathos, who had returned in the guise of a demon). It horrified her enough to make her pull away from Ceon's kindness. The touches of his body next to her and the hand that gently brushed the falling tears made her flush and cry harder, unable to bring herself to to sit near the person whom was being too forgiving. He should be angry with her, he should strike her and break her for insolence. But he did not, and in a way it disappointed her.

She stood on shaky legs and pulled herself away, but collapsed to the floor once more after only a few steps, her heart and mind shaking to the very core of her. How could he? How could he?!

It didn't make sense to her that anyone could forgive her. She was a crazed shadow of her former self, hiding behind a facade of shattering teeth and bone-breaking claws. But somewhere within, Layna as she once was hid away, cowering from becoming weak once more, cowering away from the loathing she felt as the tears freshly coursed down her cheeks, her grey eyes full of strange bitterness and true fright.

She found herself warring between what to do. She could either continue to back away from Ceon, or she could move back toward him and accept his warmth and feel the strange bit of warmth again. Each one would create a different situation, and she wasn't sure which she could deal with in her current state. The 'fight of flight' mechanism within her was bending in two, until it felt like neither could get her what she wanted.

Layna stared at Ceon, stared at him with the bleak terror of a cornered deer, helpless beneath the gaze of a predator, unable to bring herself to move more then the shaking that made her body seem as light as a leaf, threatening to blow away. "Why, Ceon?" The question was a simple one, but seemed to break her resolve to move. Instead, it seemed to pin her in place under sudden onslaught of memories. She had asked this question once before... and watched him die.

Ceon grabbed her arm tightly and slid her back over to him across the carpet. He didn't want her leaving again. Layna leaving always left him in a long lasting depression and he couldn't handle another catastrophe. It was when Layna asked that short and sweet question that he looked into her heavy, teary eyes and spoke softly, "You were there for me when I needed you, up until I did the worst thing I could imagine to you. You were by my side every day, and we loved each other. I never liked it when you would leave, but I understand why. He leaned in and returned the kiss Layna had bestowed upon him.

Layna fought as he pulled her forward, her eyes wide. A soft cry left her lips, her vehemence seeming to disappear from her body, leaving only a shaking girl, who cried piteously, afraid. This damnable person was touching her again, and it brought to the surface painful reminders of everything that had transpired between the two of them. From love, to fear, to hatred. So which was she supposed to feel?

Do you really, Ceon? She wanted to say, Do you really understand what I mean by being a monster? Do you really know the reason I wanted to so badly run away? The thought made her body quake.

Then Ceon's lips once more found hers, and she wanted to beat him into oblivion for being so awful to her. Instead, she bit down upon his lip, hard enough that she had a hold of him and he would most certainly feel it, but not hard enough to draw blood. She closed her eyes against staring at his expression, hiding herself in the darkness behind her eyes. But she couldn't deny that he was trying... and she hated him for that.

Ceon could see that the kiss and his answer was not making any significant breakthrough with Layna, and this shriveled his soul a bit. He sat there, letting her bite down on his lip, and examined her beautiful face. She had been hurt, physically and emotionally so many times all because Ceon would not stop thinking about his pride. He slowly dragged his hands away from Layna, feeling she was uncomfortable with that, but his lips remained at her mouth. He simply couldn't pull away, not when it reminded him of all the good memories the mates had together.

"What are you doing to my mother?!" The yell came from the doorway and lanced through Layna like a meteor. She released her hold on Ceon and fell back, her eyes flitting to the doorway to land on the figure there. Gabriel stood there, his hand clenched around a glistening dagger. His other hand held the hand of a smaller girl who's eyes eternally older than her body. "I ask you again, what are you doing to mother?!" He yelled. He did not recognize the person his mother was with. All he saw was her blood-smattered face and the damage of the apartment. He stalked forward, his grey eyes identical to his mother's, but the platinum hue was more noticeable.

"Mama!" Maria cried, wanting very much to hug her mother, but she stayed her ground and kept behind Gabriel, her deep eye color hard to discern. They were the deepest of reds, and was more noticeable as light shown upon them.

Gabriel stood as close to his mother as he dared, making full sure that Maria was protected from whoever this man was. He was insanely protective of his small sister.

Throughout the last few years, he had been raised in a strict environment of pack authority and his claws itched to strike the man who was apparently hurting his dear mother.

Layna stared at Gabriel and raised a hand, her grey eyes finding Gabriel's. "Calm." She murmured. The boy only shook his head minutely. He had followed his mother's scent from the hotel she had stashed them at when she had went out into the city. When she had not returned, he had gotten tired of waiting and went out to find her. He was as unafraid as he had been as an infant, but the resolve of his fearlessness had been hardened into a spike of pack mentality.

She turned her face minutely to eye Ceon, wondering his reaction to seeing her son and daughter... She still couldn't bring herself to think of them as his when he had not been there to raise them with her.

Ceon's head snapped up when he heard the little footsteps advance towards him. Despite the growth of the two children, Ceon recognized them instantly as his own children, which made his jaw quiver. He wanted to reach out and touch them, but he knew they wouldn't recognize him. Gabe barely remembered him the last time they saw each other, and Maria was just a baby back then. He could merely gawk at his first-born and croak "Gabe.....my boy...."

Why did he know his name, and why did he call him his? A deathly frown appeared upon his face as he tried to figure this dilemma out. His gaze turned to his mother, and he questioned her with his eyes. When she shook her head minutely, he growled and turned his attention back to the man, staring him down. White hair and bleak grey eyes. And then something dawned upon him, and he snarled unhappily, throwing the dagger at Ceon. It embedded itself close to Ceon's foot, the blade singing with the vibrations of it's departure from the boy's hand.

"YOU'RE THE ONE WHO MADE MY MOTHER CRY!" Gabriel yelled, his gaze livid. He now remembered this man. It was his father, the one who his mother had conceived him with. But the only thing he could remember of this man was watching his mother's tear-stricken face stare after him. It was then he knew hatred - to an extent.

Layna reached out and tried to touch her son, to calm him, but he pulled himself out of her reach. "This man hurt you, mother! All I remember of this man is making you cry!" He snarled.

Maria could only stare, her head tilted to the side, her eyes peering at the man in front of her. She did not remember him, for she had been much too young.

Layna turned her eyes away from Gabriel and looked toward Ceon. What was she to say? There were no words she could use.
PostPosted: Sun Feb 19, 2012 9:36 pm

Ceon's amazed look turned to a stern glare at his son. What really pissed him off was when his own son threw the dagger at him. He stood up in a furious motion, towering above the boy that was his son. "How dare a snotty pup like you talk like that to me, your own father!" Ceon was livid with fatherly anger at the boy's unruly attitude. He found it odd though, centuries passed since he had to be stern with his children, yet he remembered it so clearly.

Gabriel let out a thick snarl and spat at Ceon. "You are not my father!" The yell turned into a growl as he stared with what could be akin to hatred in his platinum eyes. This was a man that he could not remember any fond memories of, and he was glad that his younger sister remembered him naught, for she would probably have felt the same boiling anger he did. Gabriel bared his teeth. This was one of the last people that he currently wanted to meet. But yet, here he was, standing before his mother. "If you had been any kind of a father, then you wouldn't have done what you did. You deserve nothing that comes from fatherhood!" He was vehement, and each indignant word that fell from his lips felt as delicious as liquid candy.

A small hand touched his, and he looked downward, only for his gaze to meet the bottomless eyes of his sister, and her silent smile seemed to speak tomes to him. Just stop, they seemed to say, enough is enough. Gabriel frowned, his face contorting as he fought the urge to beat this man in front of him to hell and back. Yet all he could do was sigh in defeat. He had no idea how his sister did that, just stared at him and he felt his anger just fall away like rainwater on glass.

Layna just stared at the two children she had birthed, and then solemnly back at Ceon. Family reunion? Hah... This family was broken, and she was unable to see how it could possibly be fixed.

She turned her attention back to Gabriel, and watched the war of emotions flash across his face; sadness, anger, fear, vehemence. They were all evident, standing out like a beacon. No happiness showed there, and all Layna could do was frown before she jumped forward and stood next to Gabriel, her hand gently on his arm. "He... is your father, Gabriel, my dearest of dear ones." She murmured, watching the reproach appear on his face as he looked up at her. He couldn't bring himself to even want to accept it.

Maria, however, turned her dark gaze upon Ceon with only mild confusion written on her perfect little face. "You weren't there for my birthday." The girl murmured, frowning. If this was her father, then why had he not shown up for her birthday? And why is it he caused a sad look on her mother's face? Having been so young the last time she was near Ceon, she couldn't remember him at all, yet the eyes that stared at him seemed to assess and make a memory of the scarred face that looked at her family.
