Actually, Dionysos was hardly ever drunk. The thing about the ancient Greeks is that they never drank wine by itself. It was always mixed with water, and drinking unmixed wine was seen as behaving boorishly, to the point that there was a Daimon in the retinue of Dionysos who embodied unmixed wine, named Akratos. The Mainades were more infamous for their use of hallucinogenics and drugs in their reveries, and they were frenzied by the provocations of Dionysos himself. I've always imagined Dionysos as the calm, serene centre of the ecstatic Thiasos. The eye of the storm, so to speak.

I think Aphrodite would rule the worst, simply because if she ruled, everyone would be too distracted by love and beauty to do anything, therefore letting evil and other things happen without anyone stopping it.

i think Zeus sucks as the ruler because he is the youngest of the group of brothers and sisters and has a zipper problem.
c'mon people,if he was a Governor, his a** would have been kicked out eons ago.
personally,i would have pumped for Hestia, since she is the goddess of the hearth and the word hearth means center or heart. She also gave up her seat because Dionysus threw a hissy fit.Way I see it,she is most deserving.

I feel that I proved myself quite worthy of Godhood, what with the invention of wine, my delving into madness, and all my screaming fans. Besides, that little pyromaniac loves nothing more than sitting in front of the Olympian fire all day long. Oh, and please don't make the mistake that my dominion only covers intoxication, dear. Would you like to hear what happened to Pentheus? twisted

And oy! Littly pyromaniac? I will not tolerate any disrespect towards Hestia in this guild. She is the only, the ONLY deity who is completely without fault and blameless. There's a reason she always received the first offering in every household sacrifice.

Also, Zeus has to be judged not merely by the genealogical myths which feature him, but also by his role in the ancient Hellenistic religion. When an ancient Greek thought of Zeus, chief in their mind would be that he was ruler of the universe, enforcer of hospitality, protector of travellers, maintainer of justice, punisher of hubris and scourge of barbarism. He did a LOT for the ancient world apart from simply seeding his brood, but that tends to be forgotten in this day and age, where all that survives of the gods are their cautionary stories.

What's a cad, Prince Dionysus? *scratches head with the wall* A sodding little p***k who wouldn't know gentlemanly behavior if it fell from the ceiling and sent him into a permanent coma . . . otherwise known as Herakles. The term is mostly used in the UK and 1930's Hollywood cinema.
