Linc acknowledged the man with a nod. "What is it Crane?" He asked. Linc had been balancing a multitude of tasks on his plate and wasn't particularly patient. The newly powered were continuing to pop up at a steadily increasing rate. The particularly dangerous ones more of a council-demand than finding the backslider Kat and her mysterious helper...effectively throwing a wrench into any attempt to track them down.
Crane looked to him, crossing his arms.
"This is no suprise to either of us that the Council wants us to go into town and start tagging and bagging more of these supers. The youth are the ones exhibiting it... Much like the team that was after a certain youth with a myriad of powers that handily fended them off until the police arrived," He paused, allowing his words to hang in the air, before starting again in his heavy Irish accent, "I can detect if one has powers, but only if I can touch them. We got to a school. We pose as some college, or employers. I shake hands, find powers, get addresses. You get teams ready to bag them. No more of this snatch-and grab s**t you seem to think so useful. This isn't some movie, and you aren't some petty kidnapper. Start using flowery words and bald-faced lies, and less force."

Lincoln's lip twitched but held still as if he were holding back a sneer. "The snatch and grab is council standard, Crane. I prefer a more violent and effective method. The team screwed up, no doubt, but they'll all face a certain punishment for that failure. Usually there are more men to a team, but things are being drawn a little thin these days."

He waved a hand dismissively, "if you want, take a group. I don't particularly care. Hell, promise the kids college opportunities and a free visit to the campus. Just get results."

Unlike Lincoln, Crane let his sneer show.
"Ah, yes. And placing head of operations under the command of a moron like Rook was a master stroke on the council;s behalf. Now, I'm none keen on watching the same ammount of mistakes being made by some other dumbass who thinks he's king on the mountain," He replied, leaning down to Lincoln's eye level, "Now, we can most certainly get results, but that there's the sticker: WE. Not just you, not just me, we two get the results for the council, and that keeps them from doing us a great many unkind things."

Lincoln looked at the man quietly, sizing him up. He didn't like Crane, though Linc didn't like many people, but he didn't like Crane at all. He was a ladder climber, while Linc didn't give a damn about the council so long as he got to keep doing what it was he enjoyed doing. "Then start working on those results of yours, Crane. As I said, resources are at your disposal, take what you need." Linc held his hands out, palms open in an innocent gesture. "The more we pull in, the better. And if you would, keep an eye out for sliders. They keep popping up."

"Sliders will always be an issue. But the require something that I don't posses, and something that we're in dangerous short supply of- We need another Hunter. Someone who kills them, that's it. Barrett won't do.. We need someone... More delicate. Rook's dead, so we can't use him. You have something at your disposal?"

Lincoln brought his hand up to his chin, but then quickly slipped it back down and out of view. "Not in immediate disposal, no, but we could always make a request to the council and acquire some of the more powerful fellows. Have any suggestions, Crane? You seem to be quite full of them lately."

Crane raised an eyebrow, leaning against the doorframe.
"Is that some sense of sarcasm I am getting wind of?"

Linc shook his head, "No. I only assumed you would want to put in your two cents on the matter."

A small grin crept across Crane's lips.
"Lincoln... You don't try and hide your distaste of others very well. Which is fine, mind you. However... I mentioned that whole 'working together' thing. I want to keep my a** covered, and that helps keep your a** covered, which means neither of us get the hospitality of the Council being brought down at us. Don't misread- I don't like you, either. But, you and I are here, in the now... So let's try to not piss each other off too much, and play nice," On that, Crane drummed his fingers against his lips as the thought, bobbing his head side to side, "As far as supers go... We need some stealthy ones. I don't care if they shapeshift, can go invisible, or they're some strong guy that just happens to be good at being sneaky. We need sneaky. Maybe some kind of psychic, if we even have access to more than the bare handful back at HQ. It might make the flowery lies bit we tell new bloomers work a tad better."

Adam had been a little more quiet and keeping to himself since what had happened with Rook. Asking his dad about what was going on got him no where, and he hadn't been sent on any missions ever since. His father was always the pinnacle of honesty and trust to him, but he was still battling at himself about the incident. Was Rook ever coming back...

Stopping, he heard what he was sure was the voices of Lincoln and Mr. Crane having a conversation, or argument, or something in between. He raised his walking stick up and felt along the wall till he hit the door frame, kneeling down and listening intently.

If his dad wasn't going to get him answers, he was going to find them himself.

"I wasn't attempting to hide my distaste." Linc said, looking slightly bored with Crane's monologue of helping each other. "You do like the passive agressive approach, don't you? If I remember correctly that blind boy Rook was always dragging around was psychic. Perhaps you should look into using him?"

"Drill the boy, and get as much out of him as you can. If you need to...drug him and get him to sleep more. I'll put out a request to the council and a few other factions for more support."

...OK, that is NOT what he wanted to find out.

Quickly standing up again, he quietly turned around and began to head back the way he came, hand sliding against the wall and walking stick swaying in front of him.

They had monitored him while he slept before, but drugging him? And "drilling" didn't sound all that fun either. He always told his dad and the Council about all his dreams and they were all recorded, and he never hid any of them. Heck, most of the time, Adam had NO idea what they meant until he had his deja vu instances or someone else deciphered the meaning and connected the dots.

As he felt around the next corner toward his dad's office, he began wishing Rook had taken him with.

"Ah, yes. Because THAT isn't going to get us in some sort of trouble. We drug a child and prod his brain, no less a child of one of the high command AND a white? Jesus christ, Lincoln, what the hell kind of man are you?"
