GM Post

Simple enough. Flip a switch...Just like turning on a light...He was not so sure anymore. This switch was much more than any ordinary thing. With this, he could be taken out of office, tried for treason, and all other sorts of fun stuff. Hacking into people's brains, as one of his advisors had put it. But, this was necessary for the security of the nation. Besides, it was not like other nation leaders had not tapped in the network for the same purpose. It was just too dangerous nowadays to go around with regular agents and spies, with all the detection technology and program tracing.

Sighing, as he did every night, he waited until his clock reached 8 pm, EST. When the chimes began to ring, he flipped the switch, well...he actually pressed the enter key, but to him it was like a switch. This was the time Dreamscape came online in the United States, on the east coast anyway. He would have to wait another three hours before he could access the west coast. Ah, well. Until then, he lay back in his puffy chair and shut his eyes, dreaming of some beach and being several years younger.

This "switch" activated a system that detected potential candidates for government missions. Of course, most that were chosen were never aware, even when they gave the information to the proper authorities. They usually thought it was a dream, something amusing that Dreamscape made up for them. Yet, there were those few that were becoming aware of the government's involvment...In several countries people were becoming aware. But, for now, the governments were safe, as they had numbers in their favor.

For now, they hide.

GM Note:

You may start out wherever you want to, either in the real world or in Dreamscape, but do try to end your posts by going into Dreamscape and starting a dream. And, as I realize this question may come up, this RP will not be taking place in one or two long nights of Dreamscape, it will take plaace over many weeks, perhaps months. However, keep track of the timeline, so that one person is not in one day and another person is two days ahead of them.

I will be adding a Timeline section under the Announcements. This will be a way to organize what is going on. I will post the time in the RP and then will post each character's dream and anything significant that happens. Anyway, you may start anytime now. Sorry for the delay.

A rustle to the left of her distracted her gaze from the stone temple before her. Just the wind, she thought, looking back through the long-leaved foliage, her only hiding place. If she were not careful, the temple guards would come and try to capture her as a sacrifice. With a deep breath, she crept low to the ground and wound her way behind several large boulders that seemed to appear as an afterthought. Looking up the temple steps, she saw the high priest preparing to sacrifice the virgin.

Swallowing, she stood up into a hunched over position and pulled out her .9mm. With one more deep breath, she charged the temple, shooting two guards outright, while trying to avoid the spears from the other guards higher up on the steps. With a quick jerk to the side, she planted her heel into a guard's stomach, knocking him down the steps. When she reached the top, some scratches here and there, she threw the priest off the top and watched him scream all the way to the bottom of the temple.

Smiling, she turned to the virgin, took the priest's knife, and cut the bonds away. The virgin was a handsome, well-built man, with rippling muscles and hair just so perfect. With a pitcute-perfect sunset and panoramic view of the jungle, she pulled him to her and kissing him heavily, intending in every way to take his viginity....

WHOOMPF

Noa woke up from her fantasy dream to see her fluffy cat staring at her. "Uh...Skittles?" She groaned and sat up. "Not now. Mommy's working." She shoved her cat off the bed and shut her eyes again.

The wind blew against her bare skin and she looked ahead at the sea....When she realized she was a mermaid, she woke up and wanted to kill her cat.

Once more, she fell asleep, hoping to get to a good part in a dream sometime this night. She heard the clinking of metal...

((Note, this was supposed to be a very corny dream. She is a romance novelist.))

Zeke really didn't know why he worked for a library when the childrens' books even had words he couldn't spell. It paid, at least, although not very much. His father worked for a big business and was even one of the bosses, his mother invented a new sort of soda aimed for teens, and even his older brother was sitting pretty in Harvard. Ezekiel was the stupid one. He was, though, quite proud of that. The only other person in his family in humor was his brother, and he could do anything.

He was brought out of a rare thought by the smack of a newspaper thrown to the house next to him. The paperboy, he had figured, had something against him, because whenever they crossed paths a paper managed to magically find its way to Zeke's face. Giving him a quick and rude gesture, Zeke strolled on, knowing what he was going to do when he got home immediately.

The front door was locked- as per usual- and they never gave him a key. He had to manage his way past the unfinished back of the house, which, instead of walls, still had the skeletal wood as a protection. The next problem was the locked basement door, the only other connection to the house. Luckily, this one was a bit easier- it used a chain lock and he could fit his hand through the cracks.

Next stop, he reminded himself [just in case], room.

There she was: his one true love in his life, beautiful and clad in festive colors. He removed these petty cloths quickly, giving her a look of confusion and realizing that she'd been forcefully dressed. Then he sat and laid his fingers on her.

His computer blinked on. It'd been given silly decorations by his mother again. He set an alarm on it for the next morning and strolled then plopped onto his bed.

Sleep time.

When he opened his eyes again he was the hero in a war.

"...in which the protagonist, the man from Tokyo, Shimamura, finds himself restricted to a very narrow series of options - he simply allows for no broad alternatives." Lavender Spools felt her lips twitch into the shy semblance of a smile as she tried to explain the more complicated elements of a Kawabata novel to a somewhat senior peer struggling with the concepts of detachment. "The outcome of events is not as important, to him, as the means by which they occur. His entire sense of perception is unreal compared with that of the average person, such as those all around him..."

"Ah, I see, I think...so, like, Yoko...she's just sorta out there in space, right? To him."

Lavender gave that smile again, nodding slightly. "Erm...yes. Mostly." The library timepiece emitted a soft tone marking the eighth hour of the evening before she could correct the simplicity of her tutee's analysis, saving the young tutor from a likely embarassing conversation extention. "Our time is up, I am afraid. Again next week?"

The young man agreed, sounding as if he looked forward more to the blushing female company than the work involved, and the two parted ways after gathering their respective belongings. The gloom outside bore with it a chilling breeze from the bay that sent a shiver up and down the girl's spine as soon as she exited the library's glass narthex. Waiting for the bus tonight would not be a pleasant experience, but her options, like that man at the hot springs, were limited, in part by her own choices. Despite the cold, Lavender quickly found herself lost in her own head, as she often did following a study session. Comparing her own situation with that of Shimamura and his fantastically realistic imagination spread thin the time remaining; the bus was already pulling into place at the curb before she could even begin to wonder how long her ride would take to arrive. The fee for passage clattered in the driver's box, and on went the circuit.

Coming home entailed no ceremony or fuss. Lavender opened the door to an empty space in an alien environment: she was housesitting for a friend of a friend. Not even the faces in pictures lining the hallway walls appeared familiar. She spent little time in settling herself, hardly doing more than locking the doors and windows and preparing a small dinner - chicken, pasta in oils, a green salad - to eat over the last of her work yet to do for the next day. By 2130 hours, Pacific Time, the girl slumped, exhausted, across her pristine bedsheets and let her mind drift away...

No hard labor tonight, thought Leo. Enough of that's been run on through the day. Today...something serene. The earth shaped itself under her feet, preparing a small pedastal of earth on which she settled in a comfortable half lotus to relax in the whirl of activity that is a growing world. Within moments, the empty space of the Dreamscape was a flowing river around her on all sides, only inches below the surface of her earthy oasis. Occasional droplets flew from the bubbling falls at her back, spattering her neck and shoulders with wet kisses she could not return. Closing her eyes, Leonora spread her mind across the spreading greenery of the forest and let it fall to rest, mingling with all about her to lose herself in its tranquility.

Calintz Locke had just finished up the DJing for that day, his eyes drooping slightly. He yawned and stretched a bit as he walked along the dark New Zealand road. He turned down what looked like a driveway headed towards his house. He didn't live in a mansion, nor in the city. And he parked his car a bit away, dependent upon what he had to do in the morning. He didn't have to leave fast so this was better. His eyes floated about as he entered his home slowly. He turned to lock the door before heading to check a few things upon his computer. He then would get up and walk straight to his bed.

He removed his shoes, and got under at least one sheet before losing his conscious state of mind. When his eyes opened, he stood ontop of a small hill under a tree. He stared down at a nearby dojo, his eyes seeming to size it up. He then began to walk forward, approaching the school of fighting. He had been doing this for a while now, and though was happy with his record, he knew he could always be beaten. He trained to stay sharp and continuing to attempt in learning more.

His steps were mostly silent except for the fact that he was moving through knee high grass. He was pondering a few matters as he walked, imagining the ramifications of his actions in real life. None knew this mane named Calintz Zepher. Then again, most people didn't know Calintz Locke by any other name other than DJ Zepher. Odd, in a sense, but then again he didn't mind. Less fans and such to deal with. His eyes scanned again as he continued his approach towards the dojo, he smirked slightly as he does this, enjoying his own thoughts.

((You know...I was thinking about those things before I posted...and it just poofed from my mind >_< sorry.))

((Random newbish question: what sort of delay is normal between posts? I mean, there are a lot of people in this...do we wait for everyone to post once before posting again, or just make periodic posts, or...?

Edit: I ask this because it's likely that we won't be interacting with each other for a while yet, at this rate, so it's not like we can post reactions to other people's posts, which means timing is more complicated.))

His daily exercise routine had left him tired, today. He would have to see to it that he worked harder next time. He walked into the dressing room from his personal gym, and removed his clothes, still wet with sweat, replacing his heavy combat suit with more civilian attire.
That was far more comfortable, he thought to himself. He walked to his dining room, noting that everything had been set according to his liking, and there were no hired help to be seen, just as he had told them. This new set were not bad at following orders. He'd make a fighting force of them yet.
Good as you might be, bodygaurds were always a nice commodity. Root out the more... boring ones.
He ate slowly, but in no great quantity. He didn't need much to keep his small body functioning, and indulging oneself was a sure way to opulent uselessness. As soon as he had finished, he walked up to his bedroom, turning on what he liked to call his personal Dream Machine, and shut his eyes, contented in his day's work, and ready to begin his night's.

[[How are they going to meet each other? Like are they going to find some others in their own dreams?]]

((I just realized what would have been one of the coolest abilities, though maybe it's involved in being able to hack, but dreamwalking <_< Being able to traverse dreams and meet other people and such. Or maybe not XD *Shrugs some* That was just a thought. It might be that they are all in one huge world. When people go to sleep they go to this world, and anyone else that's asleep with find it. Hence the problem with my character as he's in New Zealand at the moment <_<;;;; ))

((Considering that the storyline states everyone is chipped into the system, and that our in-game personae are referred to as "avatars" with distinctive appearances and personalities, I would imagine that people can interact in the Dreamscape in much the way people interact in any online social program, though perhaps more like an MMORPG than, say, Gaia. If they aren't all on the same world at the same time, I find it likely that people can, at the very least, invite others to share dreams for a while, like having a friend list or a chat room. Just my guess.

...we should probably delete all these OOCs when Damias gets back... I'd hate to upset her. sweatdrop Don't hurt the little one!))

((The OOCs are fine. sweatdrop I suppose I did not explain things quite as well as I had hoped to. Now, let me see....

Everyone can post when they want to, can continue on solo storylines if they so choose. Otherwise, it would take quite awhile for everything to happen. This is why I am keeping track of everything with the timeline; this makes it easier for people to interact with other characters without messing up their plotlines. Which brings me to the next question.

Yes, the characters can interact with each other. Dreams are generated based on what one person wants, but then Dreamscape adds other elements that selected based on the user's likes and dislikes and so on....I need to explain this more thoroughly.

What happens when a person taps into the Dreamscape network is this: They always start in another place, another scenario, because, as one can imagine, it would take up too much memory to store all the worlds/missions that one person dreamt up over their time on Dreamscape. So, when Dreamscape goes offline in a person's time zone, all the temporary place/mission files are deleted. It is impossible to go back to a particular part in a dream without completely recreating the entire thing from scratch.

Often , users are in their own world with NPCs. However, other users may access those worlds through an "undecided" list. This list is for those who cannot think of what they want to do, so they go through a list of in session dreams and choose one to enter. No world/mission is deleted until all users exit it. This means that the government needs several people as one time to go through a mission, because they cannot force a person to stay asleep or focused. Usually, people selected for those missions wake up or exit the scenario, which means unless others are left behind, the area is deleted.

Oh, and yes, there are chatrooms, public and private. There are also message boards. There is a main forum, where thoughts go down as text. Chatrooms can be in text or vocal.

Anyway, I hope this answered your questions. I would have been posting more for my character, but I'm sick and I have finals to worry about.))
