The fight between the two raged on. Host-Agent R and the mysterious Thief seemed to be evenly matched, both using powers wondrous and powerful.
A slow realization dawned on the Hosts. If the Thief was evenly matched with Host-Agent R, then...if they fought alongside the Thief...maybe if they could incapacitate Host-Agent R, they could get more information! Everything they had seen or read supported the idea.

By now, Clarissa realized that she could help the Thief in taking down Host-Agent R. Not to mention, make sure (but she really isn't in her right state of mind at the moment) that the Thief wouldn't kill her only source of info.
"I want my information!" She ran into the fray and tried to attack Host-Agent R with everything she had. She worked around the Thief to attack Host-Agent R when the Thief couldn't - she'd read enough books to understand double team combat. Then again, I only learned the theory. I've never actually put it into practice. As clumsy as she was, she still fought as hard as she could against Agent R.

Helena's progress was essentially nonexistent. Turning to see the mystery-man's progress, she noticed that they were perhaps evenly matched. It seemed that it was the time to go on the offensive. She skirted the scene of conflict, making her way behind Host-Agent R. From there, she attempted to act as a secondary "blockade," using her blades in an attempt to keep the Blond Man hemmed in, giving him the option of fighting or introducing himself to her organic steel.

Against the Thief, Host-Agent R was keeping up without breaking a sweat. They went blow for blow, each pushing the other back.
Then one of the little Hosts tried to join in. she was amateurish, slow, unwieldy. R was planning to finish her off in one strike, so he jumped back -
- Just in time to look back and see Helena taking up a position. These damn failed Hosts were starting to get on his nerves. R let his feet touch the ground, then popped up much higher, so that he went over Helena and landed behind her.
With a casual swing, he knocked her away. It might have killed her, had she not been in a favorable position from the start. Either way, she was out of his way for the moment.
R whipped his right arm up again. It shivered and changed again. This time, its form was much different. Clarissa found herself staring into the barrel of a biotic gun; almost a biotic cannon. Host-Agent R grinned as he blasted a buckshot of undoubtedly poisonous spines at her from only a few feet away.

"Did you feel that?" someone from the Adam group said. Suddenly a soldier slid a door shut to the hallway from which they had come from - apparently there was someone back there.
The Adams themselves were tied up with the various men swinging at them with the clubs, as were the Eves, but their numbers were rapidly thinning as they were either incapacitated or eliminated. There were two, however, who seemed to be giving them particular troubles - they had mutations as those outside had, but they had control over them and were artfully using them to the extreme disadvantage of the Adams. Lionel had sustained a substantial cut to the abdomen and Tanya appeared to have been knocked out, but they were winning - slowly.
"We've got to get back outside, get to the switch!" Lizzie ordered, ducking a bladed arm. Adela, Schraeder, and Finnegan were still together, closer to the door than anyone else but still cut off by four or five guards. Upon hearing the order, two of the guards advanced on them, one swinging at Adela and the other coming in lower for Schraeder.

Only a moment too late a hand made of brilliant colors seized hold of the cannon and began twisting it upward, out of the useful direction. The hand trailed back a thick wrist and arm to The Thief's hand, which was gripped in exactly the same hold as the hand. "Now now, you have a bigger problem to deal with," he announced, freeing his other hand by tossing his knife into the air. A throwing knife was drawn from the holsters belted onto his arms and torso; he made a good throw with an appropriate flick of the wrist, and suddenly the knife flew faster than even a bullet.

"b*****d!" Elizabeth yelled, rage filling her mind, flowing in her veins, as she saw Helena thrown back. She drew her shield back and threw her whole body into a swing at Host-Agent R's legs as the knife came at him.

Now to say Clarissa saw her life flash before her eyes would be a lie. What DID occur to her was that life seemed to stand still for that one moment. She felt so many things in that one instant: shock (is this it?) - regret (I never got my answers) - despair (my family, please forgive me) - acceptance (abandon hope all ye who enter here)...
But something happened; the Thief saved her life. "Wha-?!" She scrambled back and watched the them fight some more. He...he SAVED me. He didn't have to. And yet the Thief did. For that, Clarissa was grateful. I owe him my life. The near death experience forced Clarissa back into the realm of sanity. Again Clarissa joined the fight, but this time, she was in her right state of mind - now she was solely focused on the fight and therefore became a much better fighter than before. I'll repay this guy once this is all said and done.
--------------
"Uh oh." Adela leaned back far so that the bat missed her, and she palm fisted his face while he was somewhat above her. Power thing, please work again? When the guy fell back, she saw that his face was smashed in. Oh...I guess it worked then. "I think I'm getting the hang of this," she muttered.
She tried moving closer to the switch, but another guard came at her. This one had tried to tackle her (seeing how swinging a bat didn't work), but Adela had an idea. When the guy lunged, she jumped and used her hands to balance on top of his head. She then immediately pushed off his head to make him fall under the weight. When she landed, she had done so on her hands; she hoped to do another flip so that she could land straight on the guy's back while he was down.

All was going well, her moves were well executed, and everything was flying perfectly smooth, until the man who fell rolled and swung with his weapon, the air behind it crackling with sickening danger.

Schraeder had teleported behind the first attack, delivering a punch to the back of that soldier's head, courtesy of the stun baton.
This, of course, left him in a great position to bring it swinging straight down on the soldier that Adela had felled. Which he did.

Host-Agent R took the knife straight to the chest, unable to dodge as Elizabeth shoved him into the attack. He fell to his knees, gasping, as they stepped away.
"Just kidding," he growled, pulling the knife out and spinning. He threw it with deadly accuracy, matching the Thief's speed-of-throw, straight at Elizabeth. Those watching saw the small hole in R's chest close up in less than a second.

The knife stopped. Just... stopped. The Thief shook his head. "Don't waste your time with my weapons," The Thief sneered. The knife dropped, then pinged off the floor, then the floor exploded upward - from behind Agent R. A hand of earth, modeled by The Thief's left hand, jumped up and grabbed Agent R about the shoulders, thrusting him down onto his knees, then encasing his torso and stopping. His right hand, still controlling the color-hand, shifted to Agent R's legs, holding them against the earth. Finally, his primary knife dropped back into his left hand, which caught it casually and sheathed it.
"Well then, what now?"

Adela was worried about getting smacked on the leg with the club, but fortunately Schraeder was there to knock out the guy. Adela then landed right beside the guy, and gave Schraeder a smile. "Thanks! I owe you one." She reached down to grab the bat that nearly hit her. Might as well have it just in case.
------
Clarissa was breathing hard, but was happy at the sight of Agent R trapped. She looked at the Thief and smiled. "Thank you for saving me earlier. I am in your debt." She owed him her very life, and she'd take that debt seriously. "As for this guy, we," she referred to the Hosts, "need answers from him. We want to know more about ourselves." She glared at the Agent.

"Has anyone recently expressed to you that you're kind of amazing?" Elizabeth added to the Thief, peeking up from behind her shield. "Because you are. Just for reference."

The Thief took a magnificent bow. "I do what I can," he modestly informed them. "I was under the impression, however, that you were supposed to give answers to these people." The rock cracked as it apparently tightened slightly.
