Leena chuckled, "Thats very true." She answered, pausing at the sudden question and it's nature. "Oh I couldn't. You know the council would-"

"That is out of the question! M'lady, you have far too much that you have been neglecting." A skinny, droop of a man spoke, walking forward with small spectacles on the bridge of his nose.

Her smile was gone as she gave the man a frown, "I'm not neglecting it Varion. Don't even try to say I have been! If anything, I've been looking over those reports you sent in and the laws you decided to include and fixed what was wrong with them. You can't tax the people more than we already are! You know we've been having an issue with-"

Varion puffed out his chest and stared up to the princess, or queen rather, poking a finger forward. "You should hold more respect for us Leena. I swear sometimes you are too much like that mother of yours."

There was a resounding slap in the room, making everyone freeze except for her. The room seemed to darken, the walls almost seeming to creak with voices of things long dead. "Don't. You. Dare. My parents were the most loved rulers that we ever had. Don't even THINK that one was loved more than the other just because they were of different races or anything of the sort. Now, leave." She kept her voice even, but it was obviously strained, watching the shocked man scuttle out of the room quickly. Reaching into her sleeves, she pulled out a fan and began to fan herself, the frown taking a moment before it disappeared from her face. "I'm not sure it would be the best idea Kai. You know how things are around here." She gave her friend a sad smile, taking a seat at the dinning table as light began flooding back into the room, the creaking sound gone. She just got some light soup and that was all, along with some wine.

Kai muttered something under her breath in response to that, thankfully in another long-dead language. None of it was even remotely polite or complimentary towards the council. "True, Leena. Hmm. I wonder what would happen if he found that he couldn't speak for a day..." she mused, sitting beside Leena and getting the same as Leena.

Leena laughed at that thought, brightening her mood a bit, gathering her sleeves back so they wouldn't get in her food. "He'd probably try to blame some random innocent thing for it. That seems to be his forte hm?" She smirked, unable to shake this feeling that something was off or wrong. "Kai, do you sense anything... off?" She wanted to double check with her friend lest it was just the over all presence of the possibility of the upcoming war or if it was something much closer to home.

"Off? As in the new guard being busy with the one white-haired maid, or as in that uncomfortable feeling that you're being watched by the boy hiding behind the tapestry? Or the feeling that something has been following us and is getting ready to pounce and miss and tumble into a wall like a kitten?" Kai asked, tilting her head to look to Leena.

Leena couldn't help but giggle and laugh, having to force herself to be serious since this could potentially be very bad. "Um, I'd go with the last one. I hope that they miss and tumble into the wall like a kitten. I missed the maid one though." She smirked, sipping at her soup and wine.

Kai raised an eyebrow, her eyes flickering away for a moment before looking back to Leena. "Oh? She was cleaning one of the tower rooms. He passed by and she convinved him it was better to be in bed with her than what he'd been doing." she said simply, sipping at her soup.

At that, Leena almost spat out the wine she had just taken a sip of, swallowing before she laughed. Shaking her head, she never questioned how Kai seemed to know these things, but some of the things she knew could just be so random it was hilarious. "Well, hopefully it doesn't distract either of them too often from their duties." She murmured, pausing before she blushed at a thought, touching her hand to her face with a sigh. "Oi. Speaking to them about it would be awkward." She muttered, waving a hand as one of the reports popped up in her fingers, the spoon still managing to find her lips even though her eyes were elsewhere. Dammit all. Talagand is searching for Vadasz again.

She put the report down and finished her soup, walking over to the windows to look out at the gardens and her peoples city beyond that. They were having issues with raiding teams on the outer villages again, it felt like there was more crime nowadays, and she was hearing whispers of a group of rebels who were thinking of overthrowing the "half-breed" as they had dubbed her. Rubbing her eyes, she sighed heavily, getting reminded of what had happened the last time there had been a rebellion. It can't happen again. Turning to face Kai, she knew she shouldn't have doubts in herself at this point, but sometimes they still popped up. "Kai, what do you think of it here? What do you see wrong with it?" She asked softly, hiding her own concerns on how she was doing as ruler.

Amaya was about to protest to Gwen when Talia appeared with the three additional guards. They left as soon as they had come. But the princess was not done. She looked to Gwen, shaking her head as she glared lightly. "No one trusts me to even get to one country without getting killed. I know what's at stake, but damn it Gwen." She growled before moving over to Tuin. "I have a dragon with me! And everyone thinks I'm already going to die!" She yelled.

"Have you met Leena? She can be a tad bit paranoid. And it's not a matter of not trusting you, Amaya, it's a matter of 'what is Altarion willing to do to make sure you get killed and does he know and can you hold your own against an army, even with a dragon at your side'." Gwen said calmly, easily getting into the saddle. "Amaya, I trust you. I know you can handle yourself, despite how I might tease you. And I know what Tuin can do if he wants to, and I know that I'll do everything I can to help you. But I don't want to wind up in something we can't easily handle because we're being cocky. I'd much rather run from a fight or cheat or just shoot someone than risk getting hurt when I know I will need my strength elsewhere over something much more serious." she said, watching her friend and hoping she'd understand.

"What do I see wrong? Those curtains don't exactly match the wallpaper and I think the cook dropped the salt into the other pot of soup again and combined them to hide the fact." Kai said, before looking to face Leena as well. "And I see a girl who does a far better job than she thinks and needs to trust herself more. You were raised for this, Leena. Stop doubting yourself when frog-men and idiots tell you you did something incorrectly." she said, giving her friend a small, though very real, smile. It was apparently one of the few times when she acted normally and seemed sane.

Leena smirked, chuckling at the first things that Kai said, but she paused and lowered her eyes at the rest of it. The smirk softened and grew to be a small smile, raising her gaze to find Kai's, appreciation obvious in them. "Thank you Kai. You always seem to know exactly whats bothering me. So, what shall we do about this supposed rebellion? I've been trying to prove to my people that it doesn't matter what blood I am, but so far it's only partially working." She asked, returning to business in a much more cheery manner, her eyes scanning across the city again.

"I know what I have to do and I know how to handle the situations. I'm not stupid." Amaya snapped. Tuin gave a low growl, smacking her lightly with a wing. The princess gave a light sigh, hanging her head. "I'm sorry I snapped. I'm just mad. I feel guilty all the time for not trying to destroy Altarion faster, and Amaryllis is pushing me to work as hard as I can when I've already reached my limit. It's just hard to be doing this all the time. I haven't had a break since the day I was born." She murmured, staring at the ground. "I'm tired..."
PostPosted: Fri Aug 14, 2009 2:17 pm

"What? That's preposterous. You, tired?" Sarcasm was very evident in her tone as Gwen dropped to the ground again and hugged Amaya. "As soon as we get to Mereth, take just a day off. Sleep, rest. You're going to need your strength, Amaya. Even Amaryllis has to understand that much." she said gently, making note to lock Amaya in her room if the previous spirit decided otherwise.

"Personally? Well, you'll never let me make them all dissapear or not be able to talk for a day or two. But just prove them wrong. They say you're a weak leader, which crushing them should correct. And everyone accepted your parents. Just let them get used to you." she said with a shrug. True, things didn't work like this where she had lived before. But to Kai, that didn't matter much. She knew Leena was just as capable as her parents, it was just a matter of making the rest of the world realize that.

Leena leaned against the glass, folding her arms over her chest with a sigh. Sometimes she wondered if she would always be chasing after how her parents had been which still left a strong sting in her chest, taking a moment before she finally nodded. "Alright." She was about to say something else when she suddenly straightened up, bringing up a shield around her and Kai as something whizzed into the window, causing it to shatter as fire roiled around her shield. Her brown eyes flashed as she pushed forward, her shield bending back so it instead encased the spell, watching the fire coil around itself angrily. Her hands moved in a graceful way before water started leaking into that bubble, causing the flames to go out which made her sigh. "Hopefully they realize it sooner than later." She said softly, taking a step back so she could weave a spell to repair the windows, brushing a stray hair from her face. "Perhaps I should look into spells that a bit more useful than just raising the dead...." She thought aloud with a small smirk, fixing her kimono.

Kai didn't blink at the fire, instead just laughing at Leena's comment. "Perhaps. But then you won't find anything I do quite so amazing." she said, putting the room back to normal with a thought and an absent wave of her hand. Very rarely did she have to speak the words to her spells, instead being able to think them and have the spell take the same effect. It was very useful, and didn't require the effort of speaking. But, that was just her.

Leena was of a similar fashion, though it took her a while to master being able to cast spells with a thought. She suspected she could because of her strong magical heritage, glad to find the room back in order. "Oh I don't know, I wouldn't say that." She chuckled, planning on focusing on more elemental based spells. She knew a pretty good amount already for all of them since her parents had demanded it of her, but she was still lacking in comparison to most people. "Then again, being able to raise an army of undead spirits comes in handy when one needs to protect their kingdom." She thought of one of the history books she read, remembering how a leader back then had raised one. She hadn't needed to yet, but she knew how difficult it would be, much less tedious.
