Band Camp Day 5 (8/14/09): So today was pretty awesome we got to run through the sprinklers! it brought back such lovely memories of my freshman year...ah so much fun. Sadly we didn't get to march in the streets as was planned, but maybe monday....

Hey, I'm from Palm Desert High school!
our band camp is going really well. we get to enjoy it from 3-9 with music till 6 then lunch till 6:45 and physical training from 7-8, then 8-9 is marching. It's a really good idea to escape the heat of the desert.
Band camp is hilarious so far with our physical trainer KTO who raced our band director and stole his beloved Fiji water O_O

Show this year is the Incredibles and the music sounds great!!! We have fantastic saxophones and trumpet playeR emphasis on the R and yeah we will PWN!

Band camp just ended this year, we start school this week. Our band camp ran from 12-8 pm and our second week from 4-8 pm and it's at our school. Our members did great this year. We have our entire first half of the show marched and we're putting music to it now. Let's just say I am one happy Drum Major. biggrin

Story Time!
Ok, so on the last day of band camp, we were to perform for the faculty members in the morning. We all showed up at 7:30 and were sitting around talking, when all of a sudden a CHIPMUNK ran out from behind the band lockers! O3o Our low brass section tried catching it but failed. So we went to perform. We came back at 3:30 for 4:00 band camp and assumed the chipmunk had left, so we sat around talking again, and I saw it scurry again and shout "THE CHIPMUNK'S BACK!!!" So everyone chased it and it hid again. Then during warmups he reared his head again and everyone was freaking out. We STILL don't know if he left or not, but we have dubbed him Eddy the Band Mascot. And NO, he does NOT wear a sweater and sing, he wears a marching uniform and plays Sousaphone. XD
BEST PART OF THE STORY: Our BD STILL doesn't know about him....XD

Band Camp Day 6 (8/17/09): Tomarrow is my last day of band camp and I dare say I will miss it. Today our instructor was explaining to us all how to propely wear a band uniform. It was hilarious. He said things like "make sure your shoes do not look like you shinned them with a chocolate bar"and "if you do that you'll look like a soup sandwich." Also when explaining about how high up your socks should be he started to pull his pant leg up and we all pretended to be blinded by his mickey mouse socks. Then when drawing a picture on the white board to explain how high pants should be off the deck he drew a really bad shoe and was like okay so now you all have seriously deformed feet.

Band Camp Day 7 (8/18/09): Last day of band camp cry so many amusing tales from today i do not even know where to begin. tonight was bring your parents to school to see what you've learned in a week night, also called a potluck. so our instructor is talking and we're all at parade rest and he said "I'm so glad i get to play with your children every day." omg it was so hard not to laugh, and again he said something that made it so hard to keep a straight face. he was thanking the boosters by having the drum majors bring them flowers but he kept forgetting who the flowers went to so the dms were going over to him and whispering the names in his ear.
and now i have another story about a friend of mine. so after the performance we're all in the band room and uniforms are starting to come off. my friend already has his jacket off and we're talking as he is putting his instrument away while his pants are arount his ankles and our talking continues on normally. he goes off to do whatever and keeps walking by and every time he passed a guard girl changing, even though we were making human walls for eachother to change behind, he would cover his eyes and chant "see no evil, see no evil, see no evil." it struck me as funny.
another thing that i found funny: our drum major wrote on the board, once most of the people had already gone home, no zero thursday, and someone said to him "Why are you writing that now? nobody is going to be here tomarrow to see it anyways."

Sometimes I hate being section leader.

They all hate the director's wife, who helps us with our music. They don't want to do warm ups, all they want to do is play on their own or play the stupid second song even though we need to work on the opener and closer. A LOT.

The good news is that the bonding games we've done have helped a lot. The bad news is our pit tradition of Olympics got cancelled due to not being done with music in time to play around.
