ROTD zombies: No one ever tried completely destroying the brain in those movies, most they did was cutting off heads and shooting. What if you smashed the head to a pulp? Easier than complete incineration. UNLESS YOU WANNA RAVE FROM THE GRAVE.

I don't get the impression that smashing the brain would work in this case. There were cases where independent body parts continued to function after being hacked off the body, and since the source of the animation was Trioxin, the likelihood that these body parts continued to function just because the brain was still intact is unlikely, unless Trioxin also confers telekinesis or telepathy.

But what threat do they possess without a head anyway? They can grab you I guess. Or kick you?

You know, that's actually a damn good question. Since Trioxin zombies are brain eaters, the main threat of them running around is neutralized when you remove their heads. However, I could still see a disembodied body part being a threat by slowing you down for other, intact zombies to get a hold of you.
So, grabbing and hanging onto you would probably be the biggest threat.

Everyone says Evil Dead is zombies, but the impression I got was demons. Maybe in Army of Darkness, the skeletons could be considered zombies I guess. In the sense that they are reanimated bodies, yes they're zombies. But it's not so much the body doing anything as it is the demon controlling the body.

I get you on that one, 'Nilla. Evil Dead I creatures were about demonic possession, WITH intent to kill but NOT killing in the same sense as a zombie.

Evil Dead II and III creatures were mainly there to creep you out and mock Ash *shudders at the deer head* But back on topic.

I'm on board with the idea that zombies are slow and stupid, something like the mall zombies in Invader Zim. easy to kill on their own, but they'll overwhelm you and yours.

Fast zombies scare the s**t out of me. If it was a military toxin introduced into the blood, I'd have to agree with the consensus that destroying the mouth and possibly the fingers as well would be as effective as declawing a toothless cat.

All that needs to happen is a transference of blood in most cases, and that can happen with most exposed injuries. Biting would make a zombie more vampiric in that case, and decapitation would be the most steady ongoing remedy.

Another question: Do you think man-made Terrain [such as large piles of rubble] would hold back a zombie if stacked high enough?

probably it depends on the number of zombies. a chain link fence could hold of at least 100 if its tall enough and properly built.

Well yeah, obviously. With no senses though, that'd be hard unless they ran into you accidentally and either way, it's still much better than a zombie that can eat you.

@Dee: If stacked high enough it would deter them until eventually enough of them piled on top of each other to scale it.

That's always a possibility as well. Although in that scenario, I'm not sure if the trioxin would move into your blood stream that way. Is there really that much of it in the zombies to begin with? In this case it's not an infection Seph. It's a manufactured chemical. Viruses are different because they can replicate themselves in the host, thus creating more.

There actually appear to be two different types of Trioxin:

245 Trioxin: Return of the Living Dead I-III. Vectors are airborne and liquid. In ROTLD III, it was spread by bite, so it *does* appear that Trioxin zombies can spread it through bodily fluids.

Trioxin 5: I don't know much about this one; never seen ROTLD IV or V. Both Trioxins are man-made, but this one would appear to be an improvement on the previous.

Doesn't much matter. They're not coming through the fence anyway; there are more than enough gates guarded by unarmed people.

Still seems less likely to me that they'd be able to turn you without their heads, but of course in a zombie invasion, you can never be too careful. Then again, I'm more concerned about being eaten alive than being turned into a zombie.

It seems that scientists will be extremely happy to find that out. If you're not turned in the initial horde, there's a chance that you'll be taken in for tests--unless you're not useful. . .

You mean the scientists that are already dead? Fat chance.

s**t, scientists would have the best survival rate of the unprepared. they can produce acids that could eat through the skull of the zombies, make high power explosive, or ******** if its one of the scientists at CERN create antimatter and blow the zombies all to hell. but thats assuming they can mass produce the antimatter

And if it's a man made virus, they'll likely be the first to go. In fact, even if it's not man made as long as it's being studied they could be susceptible to being the first ones killed.
