Would there be a list anywhere of different types
of witches and classifications there are?
I'm interested in learning about them.
Thank you kindly. ^_^

Witches are just witches - there really aren't any "classifications" or "types". While some witches may focus on specific aspects of crafting, they are still all witches. Some books try to color code it, but truthfully that's just a bunch of crap.

The reason I asked this is because I have a friend who
is a Hedge witch. She also told me that there are different kinds
of witches and different focuses, but I wouldn't know any at all since
I am just beginning.

Well anyways thank you for the earlier response. ^_^

Sorry... I had a somewhat different take on what you were asking. sweatdrop

There still isn't a comprehensive list, even when one googles it, most of the lists include Traditions rather than "types". Really the only labels that have any common usage are...

Hedge Witches: witches that "walk the hedges" - their focus is trance work, astral travel, journeying, etc...

Kitchen Witches: even within this category there is not a consensus definition, since to some it is strictly food related and to others it encompass practical magic for "hearth and home"

Green Witches: witches that focus on plant based magic, herbs, helping the environment, etc...

She said that she would help me find my religion in Wicca.

There are quite a few people who use the words "Wicca" and "Witchcraft" interchangeably, but they are not the same. While all Wiccans are Witches, not all Witches are Wiccan. Wicca in and of itself is a religion, with very specific core practices and beliefs. While there are various Traditions (Gardnerian, Alexandrian, Central Valley, Mohsian, and some Kingston, and BlueStar lines), there aren't different "types" of Wicca (despite what some books out there might say).

One can be a Hedge Witch and be Wiccan, but they are separate practices. If you are really interested in Wicca I suggest joining the Amber and Jet and Beginning Wicca yahoo groups and reading through their archives. Both have a huge wealth of information for those that are Seekers.

Ohhhh I see now.
Thank you for the info and the websites.
I really appreciate all that you're doing to help me out.

Are there any other website other and Witchvox that help connect local pagans? I'm about to turn 18 and I want to begin my search for a coven.

A&J in particular is the best place to go if one is seeking a Trad Coven. I suggest lurking for a bit to get a feel for the list (it can be a bit intimidating), but then make an introduction post, and note that you are seeking a coven (be sure to include the general area you are in, or willing to travel to). They used to have a Seekers List to actually assist people in finding covens, but they discontinued it a while back. They do still have a file section where you can post a bit about yourself, as well (it's called Seekers file, or something similar).

I just recently found out that when I was younger (around 5 years of age) if I had to go out side in the rain, I would put my index finger above my head and head out side. When I came back, only my feet were wet from the ground. Has anyone ever heard of this before? My siblings told me I was using my invisible umbrella. Could energy do that?

I found this one ring several years ago with a waning crescent moon and a pentagram inside of it. I was immediately attracted to it, and didn't think to look into the meaning of it, until someone asked me recently what it meant. I know what it means to me on a personal level, but I am not sure of the
"dictionary definition" of the symbolism. If anyone knows what this means, I would appreciate any information. I'm having camera malfunctions at the moment, but this is a close representation of what the symbol on the ring looks like.

Yashaki: It looks to be just another pentagram. The meaning behind it is just protection, and the perfect combination of the elements fire, water, air, earth, and spirit. the moon is clearly a connection to the goddess, often used to symbolize the occult, so it probably just means it is intended to be used as a Wiccan symbol and not a Satanism symbol.

I don't really know it, I have one myself, with the moon and everything, and it means what I said, and what ever else you feel it means. There is no set dictionary answer for symbolism.

I appreciate the insight given. I know the symbolism of the moon, and the pentagram individually. I was just curious if there was any added symbolism when placed together in this fashion.

Thanks.

*I should have added earlier, the fact that several people ask if it has Muslim origins. It was getting a little harder to explain to people, who asked about it, at this point. Most of them wanted more of the "dictionary" definition, than my personal meaning. I'm just going to combine the meanings for them when asked again I guess.

:edit:
I know it is not Muslim in origin, but explaining it to other people became more difficult. Especially since there are some international students from Turkey adding to the commentary.

Yashaki: I do see how this inquiry would occur, but it is most defiantly not. The Muslim symbol they are referring to has a larger moon and a tinny star about 1/4 the moons size. In this the star is the same size, if not larger than the moon. As seen in this image http://www.religionfacts.com/islam/images/symbols/crescent-200.gif There are big differences. The only reason anyone would suspect Muslim origin would be that they do not know about paganism.

zabazor: The international students probably don't know about paganism as much. The other ones though...well let's just say that I live in North Alabama, and though I am at an institution of higher learning, misconceptions in religion are prevalent.

Something to remember as well... no matter what the various books say certain symbols mean - it is really up to each of us individually to determine their meaning. A lot depends on our own views of things - something that may seem positive to one person, can be negative to another depending on their differing experiences with something.

Ephemeral Lazarus
Hey, maybe someone will be able to help.

OK, I was reading up on PK articles becaseu psychokeneis, that's just amazing... ... and i found an artcle wile looking for Cyrokenesis what I'm mostly interested in, and I found an article about using PK to distort radiowaves. Which got me thinking. If I was to distort a radiowave so far up/down the Electromagnetic spectrum could I, in essence, broadcast the color blue?

couldn't pushing radiowaves into some other wave in the spectrum allow you to make radiation, or accidently cause radiation... i'm worried... burning_eyes

Hey, I have a question.
How does one go about cleansing a space? My room is filled with negative energy (it's gotten so bad I can barely sleep up here) and I want to get it out as much as I can.
I don't have sage, by the way. I have read that it can cleanse, but I can't get any.

Any help is very much appreciated, folks! heart

I have a question regaurding the tools the wand and the athame/sword.

It seems that half of my books say that the athame/sword are of air and the wand is of fire. and the other half say exactly the oppisite D:

Why is there such a difference? and which one if right?

The best way to clear out negative energy (when you are lacking tools/items - or even if you have them) is to literally clean your room. Put everything in it's proper place, dust off the shelves/furniture, then at the very end, close your door (so that the energy doesn't go into the rest of the house) and open a window, and grab a broom and start sweeping the negative energy out of your room (through the window).

My understanding of it is that Fire/Sword and Air/Wands is actually the correct correspondence - but in the end it will depend on either your own preference (if you are solitary), or how your Trad does it (if you are in a coven).

If you take a look at Page 7/8 of Deborah Lipps The Elements of Ritual you can see the story behind why the switch originally occurred.

No joke on this; I spent two hours doing a major clean of my bedroom (which is also where my altar is) and rearranged some furniture; you wouldn't believe what it can do for the feeling of a space. I walk in there and it seems completely fresh. I don't really see it in the context of "clearing negative energy" per se, but the space felt stuffy and it is certainly not any more.

Of course, part of it too was simply opening up my apartment and airing it out with 35ºF niceness for the first time in probably two or three months. Having been to other people's living spaces, I don't think many of them understand the importance of air quality. They constantly leave their spaces shut up and it gets really, really stuffy especially in the winter if you live in a cold climate. The hallway in my apartment complex almost makes me gag compared to how aired out I keep my living space (and it isn't that it's smelly... it's just too warm and there's NO air circulation). Crack open a window. Get fresh air in the room.

I also burned some sage. Sage is awesome for purifying spaces. Unless you hate the smell, in which case, obviously you shouldn't use it. whee
