Ta Lu Daddy is a lazy bum!! but wow, I hope someday I'll be able to breed some bettas he sure is! D:
and breeding betta doesnt seem like its as easy as lots of sites make it out to be. sure its easy to get them to spawn but after that...once you have eggs...not so easy D: especially if he doesnt want to take care of them.

Don't worry, he'll figure it out! Sounds like he's doing good so far though.

i actually took the eggs away from him that same day. apparently the fry do not NEED daddy. daddy just makes it so more eggs make it to frydom. the fry all put themselves at the surface. (even though baby betta use gills for oxygen...they dont have a labyrinth yet)
i might try a new pair soon...either black plakats or metalic blue/purple plakats.
OR a black betta and a white betta

Whooo! That's tiny! I hope this batch makes it. They look even smaller then angelfish fry neutral I didn't know that the labyrinth develps only later on? Why is that so? Especially since their native waters probably aren't that well oxygenated? At what age is the labyrinth fully developed then? Also, good luck with the next batch smile

They probably don't need/use as much oxygen when they're that little, plus since they naturally gravitate towards the surface like Lizzy said, they would still have better access to it than a fish at the bottom of the pool because the first place the oxygen hits when it goes in the water is the surface, so there's bound to be more at higher levels, right?
I don't think I ever heard that they need their father, just that it makes the whole process easier on you because you don't have to tend the eggs. He'd probably just eat the bad ones and keep them aerated so fungus doesn't appear.

yeah they do gravitate toward the surface the water tension keeps them up. at the surface the level of oxygen is greater.
and yes...they are indeed tiny. baby brine shrimp are too big for them. they do eat hard boiled egg yolk, freeze dried blood worm dust and powdered fry food right now.
and i always thought the babies needed air (thats why they needed to be in the nest) but they actually dont. the dads job is to keep the eggs clean and thats all. you could do that on your own if you just do water changes and stir the eggs up. i wanna say the labyrinth is formed after a few weeks ?
as for the fish right now. all the new ones are free swimming now smile so thats 30(+) (guessing from what i counted last time since i only found 1 dead fish)

Neat-o! Baby fish are so fun. Well, all baby animals are =3 I watched my friend feed the baby anaconda at the aquarium the other day. So tiny! She's like the size of a full grown corn snake or a small ball python.

corn snakes can grow to be 4-5 feet ball pythons bigger XD so how big was the anaconda? 3-4 feet?
