Kaida's eyes got wider as she watched that particular exchange. "Can she do that?"

"She thinks she can," Zaraya rolled her eyes, "But she's never done it before."
"I can to do it! We're not all as inept as you!" Dahlia snorted back.
"Oh yeah?"
"Yeah."
Kallan rolled his eyes. "If either of you messes up my sandcastle, I'm going to be mad." He shrugged, "They can do it if they really want to, but I don't think they know the spell."
"Do too!"
"Do not!"
He groaned, "Girls!"
They both looked at him, the usually very quite member of their gang. Dahlia scrunched her nose up. "Oh..ok...woah...Did you know he could be that grumpy?"
"No, did you?"
"No..."

"You two are kind of bickering a lot," Kaida noticed, tilting her head thoughtfully. "You were starting to get louder, too."

"Oh...Well it's her fault..." Zaraya snorted and turned her back on them.
Dahlia pouted, "Whatever..."
"Thanks," Kallan whispered.

Kaida blinked, a bit startled at the thanks, but then smiled shyly at him and gave a small dismissive shrug. She'd just been pointing out what she saw, and what made sense to her, after all. It wasn't something to be thanked for, though she appreciated it.

"Kallan, how many more sand castles are you going to build anyway? Why don't you do something with us instead?" Zaraya flipped her daggers in the air in boredom, catching them haphazardly.
"I like building sand castles, Zar. And what could I do with you?"
Dahlia took out her dagger and used it to shape the foundation for a coach house. "Sand castles can't exactly be built in the wet."

"Because the water and the waves would wash them away. So Zar never gets to build any sandcastles." Dahlia frowned sadly, "Though I wish she could. It's a lot of fun."
"Maybe I'll just get rid of this stupid tail...Uncle Erian might know how..." Zaraya stared down at her tail. "All it does is hold me back anyhow..."
Kallan shook his head again. "Zar, you were meant to have a tail for a reason. It's part of who you are. If you get rid of it, you might as well get rid of yourself."

"Why can't you come up onto the beach a bit?" Kaida asked, stating what she thought was obvious. "Your brother and sister could help you back into the water when you're done playing. You just couldn't run around and stuff."

"I can't...it's not good for my scales to be out of the water like that...Mommy told me that. She couldn't go up on the land to talk to Daddy..." Zaraya looked down at the waves and sighed.

"Oh..." Kaida thought about it for a moment. "Couldn't Kallan keep your tail wet?"

"I could..." Kallan offered.
"Dahlia, will you help me up?" Zaraya scooted up as far on the shore as she could.
"Yeah, sure." Dahlia grabbed Zar's two hooves and tugged, barely moving her sister. "Hold on." She flapped her wings and got up in the air, wrapping her arms around Zaraya's midsection and trying to fly forward, getting her up close enough that Kallan could help her now.
"There you go, Sister." Kallan smiled and doused her tail for her. "Now you can help us build the sand castle!" He grinned, "Great idea Kaida!"

Zaraya looked around in wonder at all the things she could see so much better from the land. "Wow..."
Dahlia giggled, "Don't get too used to it. You're heavy."
"Here Zar. You can use this shell if you want." Kallan handed her a scallop shell and grinned, "I think this castle needs a hot tub!"
