Faolan's ears went up. "Um, when is your birthday? We should know these little things about each other, shouldn't we?"

Ellandra blinked, then blushed as she paused in opening her present. "Oh, um.... September 14th... sorry, I don't really think about it that much. There wasn't much point in celebrating it when I lived alone, after all."

"September 14," Fao repeated, committing it to memory. "Mine's on March 20th, the day of Ostra. I'm not sure that's my real birthday, though, but it's when the clan found me and Keagan adopted me. It's kind of a fitting day, really. Ostara's when magic is really high and it's a day of rebirth. It's also makes me a fishie . . . which goes along well with you being a virgin."

Ellandra giggled - she knew full well what Faolan meant when he said "fishie" and "virgin", but she couldn't help grabbing his hand and putting it on her belly, saying "I think the stars are wrong; here's proof I'm hardly a virgin any more."
Up on the rafter, Rhian peeked down at her family, but said nothing.

Fao went down on one knee, hugging his wife around the waist and snuggling his cheek against her belly, a soft happy noise escaping his throat. He kissed her tummy twice and looked up at her, resting his chin gently against her. "Well, you can be a mother and a virgin, love, it that be your zodiac. You know, your birthday's close to Mabon. Should be easy to remember it."

Ellandra smiled softly and stroked Faolan's hair. "And you'll be a father and a fishie, too."
Up above, Rhian wondered what in the world the humans were talking about. "How can ellandra-husband be a fishie?" she asked, before she remembered that she was supposed to be pouting. Oh well. Bad moods just couldn't last forever, and especially not the butterfly's.

Faolan looked up, still on his knees and hugging Ellandra, and smiled at the little proto. "We're talkin' about what's called the zodiac. It's the star sign you were born under and is suppose to tell what sort of personality you have. Like . . . Elle's a virgin and her main traits are bein' shy and analytical and good with healin', but overly critical sometimes." He looked up at Elle a moment, then looked back up at Rhian. "My star sign's the fish, so that makes me sensitive and psychic and altruistic, but I also have a lot of bad moods and don't exactly keep the best company. We could probably find out what yours is based on when you became a proto, if you want."

Rhian fluttered down and perched on the back of a chair, flicking her antennae. "Is there a butterfly in it, Ellandra-husband?" She asked first, hoping there was - if so, it would look like her, she was sure! Then she tilted her head. "Could we? It would be fun to know!"

Faolan stood up--just a bit reluctant to leave his children--and walked over to the bookshelf, patting Rhian's head as he passed her. "I don't think there's butterflies, but we can see what there is. I don't remember all of them, really." He got the book and looked at Elle. "When did she change again?"

Ellanra blinked, setting the partially unwrapped package aside and scooping Rhian up into a hug. "Near the very end of May, I believe..."
Rhian flicked her antennae curiously. "Who's May?"

"That'd be the month you were 'born' in, so to speak," Faolan explained, flipping through the book. "Here we are. You are apparently a bull, Rhian." He held the book out so she could see the pictures and the information about the star sign.

"A bull? But I'm not a cow." The proto sounded so completely confused that Ellandra had to stifle a few giggles. Silly flutterby, indeed.

Faolan chuckled. "No, no, little one. A bull. It just means that you're, um--" He checked the book again. "--loyal, patient, stable, and have lots of endurance. On the downside, though, you tend to be stubborn and possessive. Yeah, that sounds about right for you."

Rhian pouted. "I'm not stubborn!" she declared, only to prompt more giggled from her owner-mama, and the flutterby, glad to see Ellandra happy but a little miffed that she wasn't getting the joke, wriggled out of her arms and perched on the chair again. "Ellandra, you still need to open your presents! And what is Sibling-Zi? A cow too? Or a fishie? Or something else?"

"Well, Zia became a proto on April 27th, so that makes it a bull, too, just like you," Faolan said, looking over at the alter sprawled on his couch. Zia just shrugged lazily in response.
