My Bar Mitzvah.. (Brough back from page 4 xd )
-Years ago
-Parshat Lech Lecha
-Led me into a den of scrupulosity but oh well at least I know what I'm dealing with
-Torah does in fact = 100,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 weight!!! Almost dropped it in practice! xp
-We provided awesome kippot from this Tzedakkah place called Maya Works in Guatemala. Google it, you'll be glad you did!
-I got a new Tallit becuase my family was fresh out of old ones; my brother got my sabba's and my saftah had to bury the fringes of hers due to excessive deterioration. Other side of family? Catholic.
-B'nai Mitzvah (Reform)
-Awesome experience!!! Loved it!!

I never did this, and always wish that I had. I did once chant Torah in my former (Reform) synagogue, and later I chanted the same portion (Ki Tavo) in a women's (Orthodox, Ashkenazi) tefillah group for Shabbat mincha, though, and that was very exciting and fulfilling.

Mine in Lumanny form:
- Also a while ago. - Torah portion on the Gadites and Reubenites not wanting to enter Israel - Party was more of fmaily get-together, but I invited my best friends too. - The Torah isn't THAT heavy. - NB: Learn blessings for before and after Torah readings, you lazy boy! - I had a new tallit and yarmulkah, but I also bought myself tephilin with the money from it. - People from my shul I don't know invited themselves for a free meal... and got my name wrong. - Liberal Bar Mitzvah, but it was still in Hebrew - They served pork at dinner and my dad nearly killed the caterers. - We drank a lot of wine to celebrate manhood. A lot.

Cool, Behatz!
My party was going to be at this cool theatre place I love, but thay were showing the Merchant of Venice and an antismitic tragedy didn't seem right for a Bar- Mitzvah party.

Mine was kind of odd, at least the prep for it. Our synagogue didn't have a Rabbi at the time, so I had to travel a great distance every time I had to see someone. We definitely didn't have a cantor. So, obviously, I didn't chant most of it. It would have been interesting though. biggrin The Rabbi I worked with made her students do tallits. That was fun! I cross- stitched the atorah, with a fancy star of David, the date in Hebrew, and I think a saying. I still have it, and hope to have it until I die. blaugh heart My dad was going to convert to Judaism so he could be a part of my Bat Mitzvah. He chickened out because we didn't have a Rabbi at the time. rolleyes
It was also interesting because my dad's side of the family is Irish Catholic and mom's side is Jewish. (Some are actually Orthodox Jews.) sweatdrop We had a pretty good turn out of both sides. Which was nice because none of my relatives lives even close to here. Of course, all the family on my father's side asked so many questions about it, it made my head spin. sweatdrop
I played my clarinet at the beginning, and some friends of ours video taped the whole thing. (Even the luncheon.) We had it at a Church because at the time we didn't have our own building and they were nice enough to let us rent it. We had a catered lunch afterwards, and dancing and singing. I had so much fun that week or two with my family.

You lead a most fascinating life, Kitty Pride.
A clarinet at a Bat Mitzvah? Sounds reform, contemporary, and AWESOME!
