Baikou's smile seems sincere as she returns from the sink to sit down and offer her hands to the babies.
"Hitsuga is a very good man," Baikou says of him, her voice soft. A little reserved, more than a little nervous, but truly kindhearted, concerned with the comfort of others. Baikou admires him a lot... and she's glad that he was able to make a friend in his land so soon so he didn't have to endure his 'exile' alone.
Baikou was lucky to have him as a friend... but she wishes she had treated him better in the past, she says with a sigh and a smile that is now sad.

As the babies gleefully take Baikou's hands (and shove her fingers into their mouths), Melody thinks aloud...
She isn't very good at this sort of thing, really... but Melody wonders how important the past really is? Sometimes... something you remember, or something you wish happened differently or something you wish never changed...
At this, Melody herself seems sad, her mind on... Well. That isn't important right now.
But she thinks, maybe, Baikou is being too hard on herself. Not that Melody really knows what happened between them; she didn't pry THAT deeply, buuuuuuuuuuut...
Yes, Definitely. Melody thinks that Baikou is lucky to have him has a friend.
Her frown fades, slowly becoming replaced by an almost secretive smile.

Either Baikou's hands aren't sensitive today or she is hiding her pain very well, as she doesn't mind the gumming.
And... Baikou thinks Melody is quite right. In fact, she agrees with very little resistance or hesitation. It is something that Baikou wishes she could have gone about differently, but it is past now, and if she must worry, it ought to be about the future...
... Baikou sighs. And as for that...
"Maybe he'll decide he doesn't want to marry me," she says, her tone light, no sadness escaping her mind, though perhaps she is holding it back for the sake of the babies.

Melody's gaze immediately snaps up to meet Baikou's. If Baikou had asked "How does Hitsuga feel about me?" she might've been bombarded with girlish giggles.
But despite the lightness of her tone, it was a serious statement. And now, Melody can't help but be equally serious.
"Maybe," she muses aloud, as if tasting the word-- is it a dry maybe, or a sweet maybe...? A maybe no or a maybe yes? Even Melody doesn't know.
Maybe.
But she thinks, maybe knows... yes, she definitely knows. That he is thinking about it. (Well, maybe not marriage specifically...)
She finds herself repeating what she said to Hitsuga: Melody knows it isn't a blind no, and it isn't a blind yes. And that says a lot. Doesn't Baikou agree?

Baikou can't help but think she would rather prefer a blind no to a measured no, though, she tells Melody, with a rueful laugh.
"But it is up to him," she says softly, trying to see if the babies feel like relinquishing her fingers yet -- "Whatever his decision is..."

Well, yes, Melody thinks. After all, if Baikou already has her decision, she's just waiting on Hitsuga's, right?
She can't presume to know what's in his head, and Baikou has known Hitsuga far longer than Melody has, but when they talked about it, he almost reminded her of herself a little bit. Like, Boyue loved Melody before she loved him, and while Melody was really good friends with him, she didn't know if it was LOVElove yet, you know? And she had to think on it EXTRA HARD so that she could be TOTALLY SURE that whatever she felt was because she really truly felt it and not because she thought she should...
And now she has a wicked case of deja vu. sweatdrop

... Wait just a second.
Melody talked to Hitsuga about this?
eek
... Then, did he share his intentions? ... Does Melody know if maybe he has another woman in mind? ... Or are these secrets that maidens should be able to trust their friends to keep?
Though she's not sure how much of a maiden Hitsuga really counts as anymore...

Ack! eek
Melody didn't pry that much! And he said he was thinking about it, and no he doesn't have another woman in mind and Melody doesn't know!

Oh, okay.
Baikou relaxes. ... Somewhat.
... ... ... She doesn't mean to burden Melody with her troubles, she says after a moment, feeling a bit sheepish, but... With every passing day, Baikou loses a bit more hope, and... Melody could very well know the workings of Hitsuga's mind better than Baikou, so ignorant and foolish is she. sweatdrop
She just has to be patient...

Melody thinks, even though they didn't touch on the topic too deeply...
That Baikou shouldn't lose hope. Because while it might not be Melody's place to say so, and while Hitsuga never actually SAID anything to the effect...
At this, Melody can't help but burst into girlish giggles.
He has a REALLY expressive face, you know?

And Baikou laughs, a real, sincere, amused laugh.
Yes... Like a delicate flower placed in colored water, his face shows exactly what's going on at his root.

Not catching the double entendre, Melody readily agrees.
And his face was so red...! whee

Baikou giggles uncontrollably.
... Wiping a tear from her eye, though, she smiles. "... Then there's hope for me yet," she says softly.
She just mustn't push him too hard...

Melody nods eagerly. Right! And if she just gives Hitsuga time...
Another emphatic nod.
She thinks Baikou shouldn't worry. She also thinks Baikou shouldn't expect too much too soon, because this IS Hitsuga they're talking about, but. She shouldn't lose hope, either.
