Aya had never heard of the priests that Yuu spoke of, but it was a new bit of information about the world. She wanted to learn more about Yuu's past, but she felt learning one thing a day was a good and steady pace for such a young child that had grown up with such heavy dark beginning. Kadar stopped near some grass to take a bite to eat. He had gotten his fair share of water when they stopped in Sundai, but Aya could tell the horse was hungry now from the ride to the small village. The Tenmoki teen stopped as well to extract another green Aloe Vera plant. "When we visit Shimagakure, you have to meet my mother!" Aya said with a high energy as she mentioned her mother. "She's the principal of the academy and can be pretty strict sometimes, but I'm sure she'll treat you extremely nicely! She's also the head esei-anbu and watches over the Kage..." Aya said drifting off a bit as she mentioned the Kage. It used to seem like such an honor when the Kage was Ichi, but now it seemed like wasted talent on Shinichi.
Flashing another smile at Yuu, Aya set the Aloe Vera plant in the pack that Kadar carried. "Lucky for us the Kage doesn't come out here to Mugendai," the pale haired young woman said with a grin. Bringing her hand up, Aya patted Kadar on his long neck and then scratched through the coarse hairs of his fur to get down to his skin. If a horse could pur, Kadar would definitely do it as he ate his grass. It was so nice to be away from Shimagakure and to live freely in Mugendai. There were many rules back at the village mostly centered around the Tenmoki Clan, but also from Shimagakure itself. Aya remember how Tomoko got in trouble all the time from leaving the village non-stop without permission.

As Aya spotted another Aloe Vera plant, she stooped next to it slowly. The Tenmoki girl had had a lot of time to think since moving out to Mugendai Valley. Her and Kana lived peacefully out here... Shimagakure had never been peaceful for two years. Only when Aya first moved to Shimagakure and watched everyone build the village from the ground up had it been peaceful. Had Ichi been wrong in selecting some of the Shinobi that were part of Shimagakure? How many shinobi had left the island and returned to the mainland? How much information had they leaked to others they thought were harmless to tell? If Shimagakure was truly a hidden island, its location was well known to several people. The Meho's had found it easily enough along with the clowns sent by the Orochis and even the pirates from the fire country under Shiyue's rule. Shuga, Kiro, Tuhai and many others had left the village knowing its location. Wasn't that dangerous? Why hadn't Shinichi of all people caught onto this?
Digging her hands into the dirt, Aya removed the Aloe Vera plant from where it grew and placed it in the pack with the others. Aya wasn't sure where her thoughts were going with this... but she knew that Shimagakure wasn't going to last forever with Ichi absent. Maybe with herself and Kana grown up as they were, the two would be able to help Ichi better protect Shimagakure... Would Shinichi really step back down and let Ichi have his Kageship back? Holding Kadar's reigns tightly, Aya continued to walk down the path with that question in mind. Shinichi loved Ichi didn't he? I would definitely step aside if the scenario were her and Kana.

Another question that Aya had concerned San. The woman was polite enough to Shinichi even while Aya was yelling at him so immaturely. Her cheeks flushed pink as she felt embarrassed by her outbursts at Shinichi. He was such a frustrating man though! Without Ichi it felt like Shinichi would think down and up were the same thing! What was her mother thinking trying to support a man like Shinichi as Kage? Why didn't her mother just take over Shimagakure? At least her mother didn't contradict herself and paid great attention to the necessities and not what she wanted. Aya recalled San suggesting that Shinichi oversee the interrogation of the Samurai and the man had stubbornly refused to go. San had been right in asking him to check on it, because for some reason Sukotto had snapped. It seemed that Maya was the only one that hadn't changed... Of course, her fighting style and appearance had changed, but Maya was still the same Maya and so was Baki.
Stopping to pick up another Aloe Vera, Aya's mind turned on her. Had Aya changed? As she pulled the plant carefully from its roots out of the ground, the girl tried to analyze herself carefully. Of course... She had changed, but only in a more mature way, right? From her own point of view there was nothing wrong with the way she had grown up. Never again would Aya yell or raise her voice, especially at Shinichi. Maybe he had enjoyed getting a rise out of a girl that had never shouted like that before in her life. Sadistic. Yet, as sadistic as it sounded, Aya knew it might be true. That was no quality for a leader. Hadn't San called Shinichi green? Refusing to meet with a host seemed rather rude and then to say that he was the one waiting on her? Aya shook her head. Hadn't Shinichi been paying attention to how Ichi worked all those years? Aya had learned much from Ichi as a diplomat and a teacher.

Aya-nee did have a point. Even if he had been too young to recall his parents well...at least he still have his mother's lullaby. That was something that would not disappear, even as the years come and pass. A precious fragment of the past that he held on to...the lullaby might have been sung for 'Shinrei'...but it too belonged to 'Yuurin'. Like a bridging point in his life...the lullaby connected the forgotten Country he was born in, to the Earth Country the monks had taken him to. And it was in that country...he met San there after all, Huwei-sama, 'paku-paku, and many others...
He lived on because of his mother's sacrifice...but all the years taught him all the more to appreciate life. One day might not spell the same for tomorrow. Life was so short after all...so why all the hate and violence...? Each day was precious on their own...each day brought different kinds of moments to be treasured... Like now. To spend time with Aya-nee in this peaceful valley...even if the world wasn't so peaceful... But couldn't one always dream of such...? Until small hands turn big...to grow strong with the nourishment of time...and a difference can actually be made, then...

And so with a smile, rubbing the tears away from slightly reddened eyes, with renewed vigor the child carefully scoured the grassy meadows for the royal-garbed flowers he sought... A somewhat quiet silence seemed to linger in the meadows now: not a bird was heard but only the quiet breathing spell of the passing breeze. Yuu enjoyed silence, however, this would be what the books would categorize as 'the awkward kind'... And suddenly, the child found himself really honestly hoping he hadn't said anything that had upset Aya-nee in any way...
He was rather relieved when Aya resumed conversation...he listened to her words, surprised at learning this new tidbit of information. Ah... So Aya-nee's okaa-san is the principal of the Shimagakure Academy. Even though he didn't know what "head esei-Anbu" meant (San had not gotten a chance to really go into detail about the ranking system in Shima...there was Student and Genin, that Yuurin knew...but beside Chuunin and Kage...that was about where his knowledge on Shima's promotion system ended)... But since watching over the Kage is quite a lot of responsibility...if he should use reverse-logic, then that would mean the Anbu would come only slightly below the Kage in rank...
...but Anbu kind of sounds like an organization...? The child decided he could ask Aya more about Shima some other day. After all, there were so much to learn...even though he had a rather insatiable thirst for knowledge, Yuu was a very patient child by nature... And he figured that eventually he would find out anyhow...so there was no need to assail Aya-nee with innumerable questions. He was too mildly surprised (but perhaps a little expecting that too?) when Aya mentioned that Shinichi would not come here. Somehow, it made him relieved to hear those words...
He graced her with a beaming, beautifully innocent smile and spoke honestly in turn: "...I...would be honored to meet Aya-nee's okaa-san."

The glistening dew that clung to the verdant blades of grass felt welcomingly cool to the pale skin of his fingertips... Yuu observed, to some measure of childish delight, as a tiny ant crawled onto his finger...and he watched as the little countryman took a few walking steps... Oh. Not far off, a parade of ants marched back...probably returning home. The boy took care to set the tiny ant back on the ground, making all the more certain that he was not stepping on any of the tiny little soldiers that came his way...a soft giggle left his lips, as the little departing gentleman passed a beautifully purple flower...
Blowing a slight kiss of thanks to the tiny ant who seemed to have stopped for a moment and waved one of his little hands in the air, Yuurin accepted the honey suckle and gently cleaving the stem with a slight twist of motion to one side, lifted up the flower. The child carefully got up - all the while making sure he was not intruding on the marching troops of tiny foot soldiers - and with feather-light, soundless footsteps...he approached Kadar and deposited the four flowers he had gathered since the first he had found into the pouch...

Or so at least the honey suckles were, compared to the aloe vera. But he was taking very long, wasn't he...? Oh...if he only knew where to look instead of the more stumbling into the right flower by luck... He really did honestly hope the horse wouldn't mind staying in one area for too long...he will have to try harder, then.
Come to think of it...how many more did he need...? Aya-nee said they had to get about eighteen, with the one Aya-nee found from the start and the five he had gathered...so six. He would still need to find twelve more honeysuckles... Growing deeply immersed with the goal of the search, Yuu carefully scoured the patches of verdant emerald, hunting for contrasting signs of purple...

"Huuuua!" Aya said as she stretched her arms above her head and then let them flop down to her sides with two loud smacking noises. "Forgive me if I go quiet, Yuu-kun! I'm really used to making this trip alone. Kana-kun normally stays at the house and trains when I go to Sundai to get orders. We kind of get nervous leaving Ichi unguarded," Aya said as she scratched her nose with a weak smile. Defenses... That was what Sundai was lacking. Traps, tags and ways to keep stray bandits from getting into their house. The latch to the caverns was hidden well enough, but if Mugendai ever caught fire... "Hm," Aya hummed as she squatted next to another plant to carefully pull it from the ground. "Ne, Yuu-kun do you know anything about traps?" Aya asked, remembering that the Ibazi clan had set traps around the village to protect Shimagakure, but she had never learned anything about traps. Tomoko too was a good trap expert along with her explosions. Next time the crazy Jio came to visit, Aya would have to ask her about traps and bombs. Putting the last aloe vera plant in the satchel on Kadar's back, Aya dusted off her hands. "I'll help you pick honey suckles," Aya said since she was all finished with the ingredients for the burn gel.

Noburo announced herself with a loud squawk unidentifiable with any other species in the area. If Aya and Kana had been paying attention to the local wildlife, they would immediately recognize that something new had entered the field. She dropped down from her flight path in the clouds, revealing her presence in the form of a broken cloud shooting at dizzying speeds towards the ground. About a hundred feet up, she tilted her wings and made an impressive u-shaped dive and recover, landing on the ground near Aya's feet. The gyrfalcon folded her wings and held out a leg on which was attached a package so large that it would take 10 carrier pigeons to carry at a fraction of the pace she did. Instead of letting Aya touch her, the falcon cawed and sliced the bindings herself, letting the package fall the few inches to the ground. She had protested vehemently even when Yuki attached the delivery. The falcon hopped eagerly up and down, clawing the air and snapping her beak. She wondered if these people knew it was customary to feed the messenger, especially on a rush delivery like this one. No one had given her orders to return so if this squad wanted her to stick around, that was fine. Being in a new place thrilled her.

A loud sqwuak that wasn't the sound of any of the small prairies birds ripped through the air like a thunder bolt. Aya couldn't tell where it was coming from at first, but it surely did grab her attention. Landing just in front of a honey suckle near Aya's feet, the familiar gyrfalcon folder her wings in front of her holding out a package. The package fell to the ground roughly as Noburo, Shinichi's large bird, hopped up and down anxiously. "Noburo-chan," Aya said with surprise to the falcon as Aya bent down to take the package off the ground. It was addressed from her mother back in Shimagakure. Strange that she would receive a package from Moma-Yuki just as she had been speaking from her. Before opening it though, Aya plucked the honey suckle from behind Noburo and held out the purple flower to the falcon. "Arigatou, Nobu-chan," Aya said sweetly, offering the sweet nectar of the succulent flower to the bird for finding her. "Its a package from Moma-Yuki," Aya said with a smile as she began to tear the paper from the package.
Eager to see what her mother had sent her, Aya first opened and read the letter. There was an update about Aski in the mainland, saying that he was becoming a part of Koro's court and is in training to become a royal adviser. Aya was glad for him, but still saddened that her brother had abandoned the life a shinobi for diplomatic schooling. There was also news that her cousin Koyuki was joining Akiko in the academy. That made Aya smile. She hoped that one day her cousins would come to Mugendai to study under her. She wondered if they both had the water affinity just as she did... If her mother didn't write of it though, then they must've had the water affinity otherwise she would've boasted about their Earth Ninjutsu. Aya's mother had Earth as her elemental affinity. Aski had Earth as well, but Aya had inherited water from her father.

Continuing the walk back to Mugendai, Aya picked up another honey suckle that was close to the one she had given Noburo. Folding the note back up and setting it in the side of the box, Aya looked at what else Yuki had sent her. Lifting the brown paper aside, her ocean blue eyes fell upon several scrolls. "Uh..." Aya sighed, hanging her head in dismay as she recognized the patterns and seals on the scrolls. Her mother had sent her technique scrolls and recipes to learn. "She never stops," Aya said as she picked up a random scroll and unrolled it. This one instructed Aya, in her mother's words, how to perform the replacement technique. The scroll after that was another medical healing technique it looked like... and then the other one after that... "Jinsei Ijou no jutsu," Aya said in shock as she read on about the technique that her mother had in her arsenal. Out of all the techniques that Moma-Yuki had pestered her to learn, this one was above all the others. Aya never knew her mother had this kind of power. The first daughter of the Tenmoki clan had never even thought of a technique like this.
Aya didn't just read it once, she read over the scrolll three times rather quickly. Did Yuki want her to use this on Ichi? It was worth a shot, but it would take Aya many many months and maybe a year to learn something like this, especially without her mother there to coach her... but then again, Yuki always did just give Aya a scroll to learn off of with no help at all, except a few notes to each exercise. "I have a lot of training to do," Aya told Yuu as she tried to catch her breath after reading such a technique. She packed the box back up and set it in a separate satchel from the plants that she and Yuu had collected. Aya's heart was pounding with eagerness to return to the base and study these things. She thought that maybe she could teach Yuu some of these things as well, since the boy seemed to have a very good understanding of things... But it was too early to tell just what type of man Yuu would grow into. Many people changed drastically as the grew. Kana was once a trouble maker and slight bully and now look at what type of shinobi he had grown into. 'Be there for Kana, Aya-chan,' Aya remembered Ichi telling her that when she was only eleven years old when he had been training her to learn copeira.

Maybe Ichi had been preparing Aya and Kana to do something like this all their lives. Was Ichi trying to create a duet that he had hoped San would've been with him? Aya's hairs stood on end with the excitement of Ichi trying to teach, mold and shape Aya and Kana into being two partners that would learn and create amazing techniques. So far, the two hadn't done much for the world as they knew it, but Aya wanted to do something! The attack by the Samurai... Aya's mind instantly went to that. Would she be useful in helping eradicate harmful organizations such as them? The girl knew she could do it if Kana would be there by her side fighting against them. Aya shook her head quickly and smiled. She was getting all fired up and anxious with everything again! There was so much that Aya wanted to do, but she was only one person and she had to take it a step at a time. Ichi hadn't gone head first into all his ideas when he was this age. She would have to take it slow and pace herself out.
Learning her mother's techniques and being the one to bring back Ichi was her first and main priority! Maya, Kane and Sukotto were just as strong as she and would be able to take on the Samurai while she stayed hidden here in Mugendai. Taking a deep breath and bending down to pluck another honeysuckle from the ground, Aya had almost forgotten where she was. She was no longer holding the reigns of Kadar, speaking to Yuu or paying attention to the newly arrived Noburo. Aya did usually take these walks on her own, so she was likely to space out every now and then. "I'll send something back to Moma-Yuki, so stick around a little while, Nobu-chan," Aya asked the bird with that sweet smile, knowing that the falcon knew many words that humans spoke. "This is Noburo, the Kage's bird. She's not just a messenger and she is rather fiesty, so don't be trying to pet her like you would have 'Paku," Aya warned Yuu about the bird's behavior. The Tenmoki girl wanted to add in that the pet was much like its owner, but any words against Shinichi may not have go over well with Noburo. She wasn't very loyal, but Aya knew that every pet held a strong alliance to their owner. Not that Noburo was really a pet...

The small boy simply smiled as Aya spoke again...he was used to the silence and in fact, he rather enjoyed it. That was why he spent most of his time isolated in the imperial library or visits to the grove...elsewhere in the palace, it was less quiet. He was still rather wary where as it would concern human interaction. That was one of San's greatest qualms...how would the child face society later in life if he preferred hiding away instead...?
He closed his eyes, partly, as the wind gently brushed ghostly fingers against his cheek, occasionally sending a few stray featherlight petals from elsewhere twirling gently into the air... White iris... Thought the boy, snatching one of the sweetly perfumed petals from the air. It was smoothly silky to the touch, and as he fingered the curves gently, the boy smiled a bit to notice a tiny little bee still on the flower's fragment...rather dazed, the small thing was.
Laughingly, he lifted the little bee up on his finger and set the tiny black and yellow striped dot on another iris. "Be careful, ok...?" He whispered. As Yuurin turned, to head on to another patch of verdant emerald in search of the violet flowers he sought, he thought he heard a tiny buzz and a little wave of one of the many hands of the bee...
Strange. Mused the boy. Must have been a trick of the light...

Noburo glared at Aya as she tossed a few flowers to her. What, was she suddenly some cow happy to feast on stuff grown from dirt? The falcon snapped her beak and picked up a honey suckle, intending to snip it to pieces. When the nectar seeped onto her tongue, it was like her first bite of real meat. Noburo let out a strange, content hum and swayed from side to side, almost in a birdy dance. She reached out with a giant claw and swiped the air next to Aya, asking for more. Noburo stood high to the girl's waist, her claws were proportionately bigger, each talon like a meat hook for hanging entire cows on. Regardless, the falcon heard Aya describe her as 'fiesty' and 'not-petable,' something that irritated her to the point of not being petable at all. Noburo put on her cutest big eyed stare and hopped over to Yuu, opening her beak for a honey suckle like a newborn bird. She cocked her head in the adorable style of a clueless bird to finish the charade.

A loud squawk caught his attention and Yuurin casted his green-gold eyes away from the ground and upwards towards the heavens, intently searching the skies... Sure enough, there was a blur of motion...a magnificent bird of prey in a speeding, hurtling dive. Curious... He hadn't seen any large birds of prey around here yet...then again, he had only been in Mugendai for perhaps mere hours. Even strangely enough, the bird approached them...or to Aya rather...
The boy caught glance of the package bound to the gyrfalcon.
Ah.
A messenger bird, hn? The messenger birds of the imperial court were often snowy-white pigeons and on occasion, a tamed eagle or hawk. This would be his first time seeing such a bird not in his books - a species that was found in the colder tundra lands to the North. Shinobis certainly choose interesting partners. The boy wondered for a moment if perhaps some day, as with San and Konpaku or like Aya-nee's friend (here the boy realized with a start he had still not gotten Maya's name)...would he too one day have a partner of his own?
Come to think of it...he wondered who would this particular gyrfalcon belong to...?
Mn. But it seems that the gyrfalcon was only here to see Aya. The boy stopped shifting the blades of grass aside in search for the flowers, so intently watching now as the bird made the delivery. Aya-nee addressed the falcon as Noburo... -chan? So this gyrfalcon was a girl? ...he wished he could see her closer... Wait...she's coming closer...
