John's eyes had returned to the books on the shelves. One particularly thick volume, its spine written in a strange violet font, had captured his attention. He was about to reach for it when Chris had asked him for a suggestion.
"Hm?" he asked blankly. "Oh, uhm... yeah. I'm curious as well. Taking something like the inner mind and manifesting it into something physical certainly is intriguing, but... I have a question."
"Where are the emotions? Is that what you all are?"

Tenkou mitsuru tokoro ni ware wa ari, yomi no mon hiraku tokoro ni nanji ari! Mony frowned--well, seeing as her expression was set in a nearly constant frown, her frown just deepened--as she pivoted to face the two "friends" of her keeper. She was still a little suspicious, but decided to trust them for the time being. What choice did she really have, anyway? She held out a hand almost completely hidden by her long purple sleeve, sweeping her arm across empty space. "You...could say we're emotions," she murmured with a shrug. "That's kind of what we are, though not entirely." The emo one raked a hand through her dark tresses, revealing her face for the first time, her expression molded in perpetual sorrow. "We're more so...personalities."
Emily nodded in agreement with what Mony said, a cute smile settling on her face. Her bright blue irises eyed the book John had been staring at previously. Oh, he wanted to read that one? The mute knew exactly what lay within the worn pages--some of Ally's journalings while training under a master mage from her home world. She almost wanted to pluck the book from the shelf herself and just hand it right over to the raven-haired guy. After all, Chris had said the both of them were friends of Ally, right? Surely there would be no harm in letting them read through some of her keeper's memories...Emily trusted them, even though Mony didn't seem to, really. Ideyo, kami no ikazuchi! Kore de owari desu! "Well... hmmm..."
John thought for a moment and addressed how Mony had referred to themselves. "So, you're all personalities and... since you all look like Ally, is it safe to assume that you're all different sides of Ally's personalities?" he asked Mony. "If that's the case, then does that mean that you all have an influence on her?"

Tenkou mitsuru tokoro ni ware wa ari, yomi no mon hiraku tokoro ni nanji ari! Mony hugged herself, pointing her feet inward and standing in a pigeon-toed stance. "It's...a difficult subject to devle into," she whispered, a waver of tears laced in her voice. "She keeps us here...so that she doesn't feel emotions as strongly." A shuddering breath escaped her lips as she continued. "Emotions blind a person from the true matter at hand, don't they?" Her question came out as a quiet squeak, akin to the sound a kicked puppy would make.
While Mony was busy addressing John's concerns, Emily took it upon herself to fish a book from the shelf she thought Chris might be interested in. She climbed a few of the oaken planks, a certain tale already in mind. Her eyes lit up as she located what she sought, and she plucked the book off the shelf with a bit of difficulty. Her feet gracefully made contact with the ground as she leapt down, bound pages in hand. She blew layers of dust from the artifact, resisting the urge to sneeze afterward. The title on the sturdy cover was woven in the language of the angels, in golden and silvery thread. Perhaps the vampire would find this one intriguing? Ideyo, kami no ikazuchi! Kore de owari desu! [I'm not a bad person...]Chris took the book and looked it over. It looked like it was written in an older language, some form of angelic dialect. While he'd looked at a few angelic runes back in the day, he knew that interpreting something like this from scratch could be a royal pain. It wasn't exactly like the girl could read it aloud to him, either... Regardless, he cracked open the book to see what he could find. Maybe there would be pictures... or... something.... [...I just have bad luck.]

"I suppose, but without emotions, you'll typically make the most efficient or practical choice. While it may be good, it may not be the right choice." John replied. He was beginning to get a bad taste in his mouth. Why would Ally go to such a length to distance herself from her emotions. Were they dangerous in some way? Did they affect her ability to fight?
"How long has she been doing this?" he asked Mony.

Tenkou mitsuru tokoro ni ware wa ari, yomi no mon hiraku tokoro ni nanji ari! Rich purple eyes darted in John's direction, clouded over by tears that threatened to fall at any second. "She...for years...more than I can remember...," she admitted, finally allowing herself to cry. She emitted no sound as her tears slid down her cheeks.
Emily took the liberty of flipping through a couple pages of the book, the expression on her face reading pure excitement. This was one of her favourite tales in the collection, mostly because it was one of the few books that did contain pictures. The page she halted on bore an illustration of an angel--a woman who looked like Ally, but wasn't Ally. She had four sets of angel wings versus the feathered appendages sprouting only from her head. Her hair was long like Ally's, but of a much lighter colour, a light brown shade. Next to it was another picture, this one of a man with dark hair and eyes to match. Shadowy tendrils looped around him like ribbons of darkness. A barely distiguishable smile rested upon his facial features.
Emily gazed fondly at the pictures, as if looking upon a cherished memory. Ideyo, kami no ikazuchi! Kore de owari desu! INDIGNATION!

[I'm not a bad person...]Chris looked down at the images before him. The woman in the picture did seem to bear a striking resemblance to Ally, but it was hard to go on just that. If he had to make a guess, he'd say that these people depicted were her relatives of some sort - most likely, her parents. Ah, family... perhaps this book was created before Ally's mastery of words. That would explain why it's all in pictures... these were all just theories, of course, but it made a lot of sense to him. Perhaps he'd inquire about it later, should he happen to converse with a personality that could talk... Chris pulled himself up from the pages for a moment to see how John was doing. When he saw that Mony was crying, Chris gave John a look that could could pierce stone. If they wanted to get out of here, it was NOT by making the little girls cry... goodness, man, have some tact! [...I just have bad luck.]

John looked over helplessly at Chris. It wasn't HIS fault that Mony had suddenly turned into Janey-weeping-willow over here! Letting his big brother instincts take over, the young leader tried patting other her shoulders and giving her a bright smile.
"There, there, don't cry." he said gently.

Tenkou mitsuru tokoro ni ware wa ari, yomi no mon hiraku tokoro ni nanji ari! "She can't help it; it is her designation, after all." Tel poked her head around the side of a bookshelf before stepping out from behind it. She felt bad for saying it, but...
Mony sniffed, wiping away her tears with the heel of her palm. She greatly appreciated John's kind gesture to make her feel better, but as the newcomer said... "Tel's right...," she admitted, glancing over to the more intelligent personality over the thick rims of her glasses. "But...thank you."
Emily's excitement over the book totally drained away with the appearance of Tel, probably the only other personality that she got along with well. To add to that, Tel could serve as an interpreter or translator of sorts for her, making her lack of speech easier to deal with. The mute was glad that Tel showed up, but for more reasons than that. Finally, with the more logical counterpart present, perhaps John and Chris could finally get all of the answers they wanted versus everyone else skirting around the issues... Ideyo, kami no ikazuchi! [I'm not a bad person...]Chris looked at each of the incarnations. Looks like the blue one returned - it seemed to him that she was the 'big sister' of the group, judging by the way the others regarded her. Probably best to try and stay on her good side. At the moment, though, he decided to cede direction to John - he was the leader, after all. Hopefully he could negotiate something with them without making any of the girls cry... again... "John," he said with a motion. "You still had questions, right? Now seems like a good time to ask them." Perhaps now that they had a more stable voice, they could find some answers around here... [...I just have bad luck.]

John smiled once more at Mony before bringing his attention to Tel. He had a lot of questions, to be sure. Why were the rules the way that they were? Why did one personality seem so dominant over the others? What would happen if they fiddled too much with things inside Ally's psyche? Shaking his head, he asked the one question that had the best chance of getting them out of here.
"Can you summon Ally?" he asked. "Or, at least let her know we're here?"

Tenkou mitsuru tokoro ni ware wa ari, yomi no mon hiraku tokoro ni nanji ari! Ah, here began what promised to be a long string of questions about anything and everything concerning this place so foreign to the two men. This didn't bother Tel in the slightest, though; she rather enjoyed explaining things to a certain degree. Pushing her glasses up the bridge of her nose, she said matter-of-factly, "I'm afraid that's impossible--actually, not impossible, but something very unpleasant to do." She looked at John with kind blue eyes that held a hint of a smile. "In order to bring her here, one of us--that is, one of her personalities--has to be injured in some way. And no, I'm not talking about a simple scratch or bruise."
"She means a grave, possibly fatal injury," Mony piped in quietly, blinking away the remainder of her tears. She huddled against one of the many shelving units, wrapping her arms around herself. "It's only happened once, when Trice tried to commit suicide..."
Emily remembered that ordeal all too well. She cringed just thinking about it, biting her lip nervously as she glanced up at Chris for a moment. Her cyan gaze then shifted to John as she tried to gague the reactions of both of her new friends. The subject at hand wasn't exactly something any of the three personalities wanted to reminisce about. Ideyo, kami no ikazuchi! Kore de owari desu! INDIGNATION!
