I found this episode of Doctor Who quite Lacking, what I mean by this is that the episode was to much Expiation for the next episode with the Masters Return. Also the fact that they hinted greatly that the Time lords (Not just the master) Would be coming back. Because think about it just the master wouldn't stop the Doctor from being tempted to change something again for the gain of saving people. It would have to be the Whole Time lord Race to make the laws of time strong again. Because the 10th Doctor can't keep acting like this into the 11th because with out the Time lords then the 11th Doctor May keep trying to do the same. But Knowing RTD he may not bring them back which annoys the heck out of me. Because he was the one that got rid of them in the first place which was okay at first but now its just dumb.

Hairy Priest It was an okay episode for me, but I felt pretty ambivalent about most of the show. Partly I think it's because we know (or think we know) right from the start that everyone on the Mars base is going to die, so I didn't really care when people started getting picked off since I knew they were goners anyway. Then the Doctor decides to break the rules and alter Time, which is a pretty neat idea, expanding on concepts first raised in the Pompeii story. Except that all of a sudden the Doctor becomes a major jackass, which I found a little hard to accept. I mean, I like that he starts getting corrupted when he realizes that he wields the power to 'fix' all sorts of stuff, but that doesn't mean he has to instantly act like a total jerk. It should have been more subtle, I thought. The Doctor's rationale for why the Dalek didn't shoot her 50 years ago doesn't make much sense, does it? I mean, weren't the Daleks trying to obliterate the entire universe? Why, then, would they have any qualms about shooting the girl and changing Earth's history... wouldn't blowing up the whole universe be an even bigger change?! I figured the Dalek didn't shoot because a little girl wasn't really worth the effort. The water aliens were an interesting idea. No real complaints about them. I think the idea is that Daleks always follow rules and orders, including the rules of time. Their orders were to destroy the universe, but they are also programmed not to mess with fixed events. Remember it was Davros's idea to destroy the universe, not the Daleks'. Well that's my theory anyway.

Well that's my theory anyway. Yeah, but when the Daleks blow up the universe, that little girl would be just as dead as if the Dalek at the window had decided to shoot her. I don't see the Doctor's logic at all. Oh, well, I suppose it's more of that wibbly-wobbly, timey-whimey nonsense. Who am I to argue with the Time Lord Victorious? rolleyes

You know, I thought it was really kind of a silly thing to say that humanity went to space because of this woman's death. I highly doubt that just because she lived, humans would never progress or something. It was like the Doctor said. She could inspire her granddaughter face-to-face. Or someone else might do the things that the granddaughter was supposed to do. One way or another, humans WOULD go to the stars and all would be more-or-less the same. To place future of all of humanity on the shoulders of one woman is just ridiculous.
Pompeii was different. That was the death of a whole ton of people. The consequences of saving all of them could have been bad (though even then, I'm skeptical). However, in this case, I can't see how it could do anything except maybe speed things along a tiny bit (considering that one or two generations of humans is like, a nonexistent measure of time in the universe's lifespan).
And another thing... Where were those nasty flying demon things that show up when you save someone who was supposed to die? stare

I have to much to say. This isn't even half the stuff in my head right now. Saw it 10 minutes ago. Where do I go when I finish watching an episode? Straight to gaia... 1) This was a great episode in my opinion blaugh because well, I really haven't seen an episode I haven't liked. Still a noob, you see. I've only seen Eccleson and Tennant. P.S I saw the very first episode the yesterday XD made my day I guess what made it so great to me was the massive drama. I love drama. Always have. I also LOVE references to other episodes. Even if its just a memory like Pompeii. 2) Yeah I guess it was sort of predictable. I was talking to my dad about stuff while all people were dieing. I started paying attension again when he got the people back to earth. 3) WHO was that Ood? Was it some kind of OOD OF DEATH? 4) WHY OH WHY DOES THE TARDIS TAKE SO LONG TO GET TO PLACES. During the count down I was all "GET THERE ALREADY stressed " Still a good episode.

I have the first episodes of DVD... I heart! 2. Bout time The Time Lord says Screw the Rules I've got money...I mean a Time machine *Sweat drop* 3. That was ODD SIGMA the one who first foretold his End. "Your song is ending" 4. Cause she's old, I figure she was old and worn when the Doctor first got her. Imagin all the work he has to do on the poor old girl and I barely know how to work the thing....why did he leave me in charge *Sweatdrop*

I have to say that Waters of Mars was kind of a let down I was looking forward to a good scare or at least a good shot. The Doctor's mental brake was even lacking some of the fire that its had before when he has come close to loosing it. I have to hope that Dreamland and End of Time Make up for this, and Dreamland dose not look promising.

Dreamland? What? Anyway, not that I am awake I did see somethings wrong with this. For me anyway. I HATED when he went all jackass on us. WTF?! I guess he really does need someone to control him. But i can sort of see why he did. After so long you have to think something right?

He was prone to get over his grief eventually. It just seemed more like a psychotic brake than a revelation. Well there is also that clip that will be on Children in Need on the 20th perhaps it will be good.

so ... yeah... kinda a let down.
The story itself started off great. The Doc showing up... wandering around... ending up in the base and meeting the crew... realizing that events are about to unfold and he should leave. But thats not MY doctor... MY doctor would want to be there as long as he could, do all he could... and he did.
Some nice references to old-skool episodes, some great dialog ("Bicycles!" hehe. Loved it!)
But then things fell apart...
It was fine that he broke the laws and saved a few of them. I was even prepared for it to fail when he did, but still wanted to give him credit for TRYING.
But then... his cocky funny nature just turned arrogant and rude. He got a little god-complex there... and even that was fine with me (Assuming something smacked him back down to size).
But it all happened too fast. The second he decided to save her, he never questioned it, there was no progression in his character. Just one minute he is the Doctor and the next he was a complete jackass and another second later he is crying and begging Ood Sigma for his life.
WTF? I honestly felt that the last 10 minutes of this epp were trash and rushed. This should have been a 2-hour event and we should have seen him descend into becoming "Time Lord Victorious" and watch as he later came to terms with his mistake and the consequences. This is something that doesnt happen in the course of 2 minutes. It seems to have been thrown at the end of the story like it was an afterthought.
A few observations: I get that she was important, But when you think of all the times and all the people he could go back and save, how is it that this chick got him to break the laws of time? I mean... there were people way more dear to him than this chick that he let die. If he didnt come to this conclusion with them, then Id find it hard to think he would do it now. If things have changed enough for him to break the laws of time, I think it should have been a bit more intense. We should have seen a slow process leading to his breakdown.
next-
If he was going to break the laws of time and save her... why not do it right and save them ALL? (he did have a Time Machine... right?!) He could have just went back a day and took them a new water filter. For a man as smart as he is, even under emotional situations, he would have worked out a way to save EVERYONE.
finally-
I understand that the Doctor can see time and understand it. But it seemed that he broke it down a little too much here, explained it in such a way that it actually made it less impressive. Sorta like Jedi-Force turning out to be midocondria in the blood (lame), it was the same thing as he defined his understanding of time in this episode. It was just as poorly explained. Sometimes, it better NOT to give detail. In this case it was pathetic. In the future, RTD needs to remember that he doesnt need to always explain why some things happen. We have accepted the Timey-Wimey explanation without question. If fact, we like that explanation. We would rather hear the Doctor say its too hard to explain or that we wouldnt understand it, instead of being given a reason that we can too obviously find holes in.

I agree somewhat Brakedown = 2 minutes? I think not! Was he really begging Ood sigma for his life? I don't remember... I also though the tardis doors didn't work on wood either. But he used on that one door. *racks brain to try and remember*

Okay.. is it just me, or does the doctor seem like a real jerk at the end? I'm used to him being a funny jerk, so he's always gotten away with it in my book, but this time, he was just plain rude. It made me mad evil

So, after seeing the Children in Need short, where the Doctor was still kind of a jerk (talking about Elizabeth I like he did... and being annoying to Ood Sigma), a thought occurred to me. What if they are trying to make us stop liking him so we'll be less sad when he's gone? I mean, it's just a thought and is in no way based on anything, but it's interesting to think about, anyway.
